  1. News, near as I can decipher: Camp went well, progressed through some more music in preparation for playing with the Toledo Symphony in two weekends. There's another camp that weekend for brass and drums. Usual G-Fam happiness/shenanigans happened, and as always, the food was awesome.

Yes, not really news, but these days, no news = good news on the G front, generally.

  2. I was having a nice discussion yesterday on what show is better: The champions from 1996 or the 2nd place show from 2006. I'd love to hear the feedback of the DCP community! My vote is for 06 even though they didn't win (should have in my eyes). Better overall sound, better visual package, better percussion, just wrong year to go against "The Machine." Your thoughts?

    96. by a lot. 06 couldn't win in a decidedly off year while 96 had to duke it out with a very strong Blue Devil corps.

  3. Acting on a tip from an informant  I headed over to Vanguard's page and checked out their photo gallery from their recent camp at Independence HS in San Jose.

One of the pictures is captioned "George explains Grover's Corner to the audience..."

SCV 1985 - Grover's Corner (From "Our Town") by Aaron Copland

Looks like this piece might be making a return in 2012.

    Encore.

  4. I watch a lot of rehearsal segments on youtube for lots of corps. I think they offer a very unique look into the shows that corps perform. Every time I see a video of the cadet's battery in rehearsal, I see them all wearing those cool two tone shorts. Anybody know where you could get shorts like that?

They're custom-made by an ageout's mother. The only way you're getting those shorts specifically is if you march in the Cadets battery.

As far as similar looking ones, I have no clue.

  5. "A DCI presence was considered but touring costs drew YEA! to request of DCA that Cadets2 be allowed to participate in their arena. And yes, there is the possibility we will loosen the age restrictions to 23 or 24, depending on demand." - from the Cadets^2 website.

At this point, I'm betting they'll take any of you 24 year old baritone players, if there are any of you who would want to do this.
