It is interesting that some individuals (who are not being paid to teach or design or organize) have looked to Drum Corps as a way to make a living. Rather than operate the organization to educate youth they seem to have opted to fundraise for a non-existent program. The purpose of raffles and drawings and bingo used to be to raise funds for the corps. Unfortunately it seems that the focus for some "folded corps" has become to keep raising money to pay the people who run the bingo rather than get a corps on a field. In Ohio, it is illegal to get paid to operate or work at a bingo. Some may argue that the hopes of someday bringing a "folded" corps back to life justifies paying a salary to people to operator a non-existent corps. Running a bingo with a pipedream of bring back a corps "someday" could be looked at as a way to skirt the Ohio bingo laws. The Ohio Attorney General's Office and the State Gaming Commission should look to see if groups that run these games for "folded" corps have a legitimate and realistic plan to get youth back on the field in a reasonable period of time, or they should let other youth organizations have the opportunity to take over the bingos.
Just my opinion.
As for the attacks on Carl. You people are clueless. He is great man, a great educator and one of the greatest motivators of youth I have met in my 47 years. Shame on you for not trying to use his expertise to get your corps back on the field. Carl you are one of my Heros.
