  1. Thank you. I originally had 1991 and then started to doubt my info, so I changed it. I've changed it back.

Why didn't the merger work out? I don't remember ever hearing that.

It wasn't any one thing but a lot things that doomed this relationship. The biggest was problems between the staff members. There were other things that could have been overcome with time.

This was really just a trial to see merging would work but also a way for both organizations to survive a bit longer. Both corps had membership challenges. EK had a big percussion section but were short on brass. QCK had brass but could not get enough percussion players. It was agreed to try it for a year and if it went well continuing would be discussed at the end of the year. It didn't go well so we separated again.

  2. I was going through some old programs, and while looking at them, saw some of the old names familiar to the quad city area. I know I probably should remember or know this, but unfortunately cannot remember what the story was.

Were the Quad City Knights, the Geneseo Knights and the Knights all the same corps? For some reason I thought they competed against each other at different times, but one of my band director friends thought that two of them had merged to become one corps. He also thought there was another corps involved as well. So was there a 4 corps connection somehow, and can anyone explain what happened there? I am sorry if this causes any painful memories for anyone. I seem to recall all of these corps being very good at different times. And I honestly can't remember seeing a thread about any of these corps, other than them maybe being mentioned in corps that no longer exist.

The name progression was Kewanee Black Knights, Geneseo Knights, Quad City Knights, Knight Command ('90), The Knights ('91-'95). All the same corps. There was a one year merger with the Emerald Knights of Cedar Rapids in 1991.

  3. i remember reading about that in Drum Corps World, but all I remember about the time period was it wasn't until sometime after 1985. However, I don't remember if it was before or after the corps merged with Emerald Knights in 1988. I don't remember it lasting more than a year, but I'm fuzzy on that.

I'm not sure when the sponsorship started but 1985 would be a good guess. Knights Inn had a plaque in the hotel lobby with a picture of a corps member explaining the sponsorship. I believe it ended just before the 1990 season as the parent company of Knights Inn ran into financial difficulty and cancelled the sponsorship. Caused some hardship with the corps as they gave no warning and the sponsorship money had been committed.

The merger with the Emerald Knights was in 1991 not 1988. It only lasted a year before the corps separated again.

  4. Two sets of Premium tickets to Prelims, Alumni Spectacular and Finals.

Section 5 Row 35 seats 25 & 26. These are 50 yard line seats. Includes a program and VIP parking. Asking face value $292 for the tickets. I'll pay the shipping to you.

Company cancelled all vacations for a special project and won't make exceptions.

  5. One of my favorite Spirit moments came in '77 when they did a standstill in a small town in Iowa. The main street in the business district was closed off so we got to stand right in front of the hornline. As they finished playing you could hear an alarm going off. The sound had rattled the windows on a bank 3/4 of a block behind the corps and set off the burglar alarm . Not a "glass breaking" moment but close.

  6. That's quite a lineup.

Incidentally, does anyone know how many rows are in the lower bowl of Camp Randall? I was at 06 finals and was (I think) three rows from the back, but I can't remember what row number it was. I'm looking to get tickets to this show.

According to the UW Athletics web site

    http://www.uwbadgers.com/facilities/camp_r....aspx?section=T

the main section for this show is from row 5 to row 71.

The seating is on the East side of the stadium, not the West as in previous championship shows at the stadium.
