  1. Some good looking drums there. Any idea of costs/import duties, etc. and availability in the States? Any demo models, in usual drum corps sizes, for "try outs" here?

Do you know of any local dealers in these parts of the world? Just curious.

    Ray

    Hi Ray,

I'm not sure on costs etc.. Everything is custom and made to order so unfortunately I don't think they would have store stock in the states but I will pass on your questions and get back to you ASAP.

    Thanks for the interest,

    Kass.

  2. A very good friend of mine makes the most amazing drum kits I have ever seen and heard. He does full drum kits and can build custom marching snares and drums like you have never seen before and backs it all up with an amazing sound and build quality!! Do yourself a favor and check out the facebook page, even its just to drool over the very sexy kits he has already created and maybe even drop him a line and see what he can do for you.. Imagine your own designs and logos on a one off personalized marching snare.. oh so pretty!!

  3. For those that weren't there for finals:

    1. What was the crowd reaction when they entered the field?

    2. What was the crowd reaction when they were announced?

    3. Did they throw down a full blown Sunburst for finals?

    4. What was the crowd reaction when they left the field?

    5. What was the crowd reaction to their score?

    6. What is the airspeed velocity of a swallow?

I really hope someone answers these questions! #6 is particularly special to me, since a fond memory I have of my Troop rookie year in 1985 is a drumline pasta party hosted by Gabe. He made homemade spaghetti sauce and it was delicious, and we watched Holy Grail.

the average cruising airspeed velocity of an unladen European Swallow is roughly 11 meters per second, or 24 miles an hour

    Crowd reaction = epic.

And I dont know how many people would have seen but the age out kids on Friday night did a Sunburst during the age out ceremony!!

  4. EPIC WIN TROOP!

I toured with Troop last year as support staff for the full season, I'm a close age to alot of the kids so I formed sooo many life long friendships! There are soooo many amazing people in this corps who worked their BUTTS off to make it to finals! GO TROOP!!!

Tonight (and of course tomorrow) was well worth the thousands it cost me to get here from Australia!!!

    GO TROOP!!

    :tongue::smile::tongue::doh::doh::doh::worthy::doh::worthy::worthy::smile::doh:

  5. How about people holding up cameras in the middle of performances?

Phantom is coming onto the field, and two people decide to sit infront of me and my friends for the performance. So, right as Phantom is announced, then both pull out cameras and start recording. So, me and my friends are like "whatever...." and let them do their thing. They then proceed to hold their camera above their heads infront of our faces. So I lean up and politely ask them to put the cameras down. Then she starts taking pictures with her flash on, and starts holding the camera up again. So i then lean up and turn her camera off for her. They then moved to their seats and left us alone for the rest of the night.

Atlanta had the WORST crowd ive ever been to.

Oh and a note about cameras... I am all for taking photos!!!! But I am a photographer, and you should never get in anybody elses way!! just because you are recording a memory it does not give you the rite to spoil somebody elses!

Can you imagine if I was to stand between the pastor and a couple at a wedding to get a good shot?! not cool!! or if I were to jump up on stage at a festival between the crowd and the lead singer to get an awesome close up.. appart from being punched in the face.. its just plain rude and woud spoil it for way too many people!

  6. I have the up most respect for every corps that takes the field! Every single kid in a uniform no matter what colour it may be has worked their backside off to be there!!! And everybody in the stands needs to show them the respect they deserve!!!

In saying that.. I toured with a corps for the full season last year, all days through finals, and there was many a time I was appalled by what some "fans" got up to at shows.. and many a time I was very tempted to get my own back!! I'm middle child with ADHA, trust me, I can be annoying!

It just disappointed me to see grown adults acting like rude arrogant snobs just because it wasn’t their team out on the field. If you are just going to sit there making rude comments or chatting away in your own little world and not supprt the corps on the field then LEAVE and find somewhere else to have your conversation and let the supporters enjoy the show!

  7. Hahaha!! ahhh yes the memories are flooding back.. Like that one time that.. oh.. not appropreate... Ummm what about when...!! umm no better not... there are parents reading...

I didnt tour as a marching member but I did tour on the overflow bus as a staff member to "supervise" but I was the same age as the kids marching so they treated me as just another member so it was crazy times.. I got lucky in being a vollenteer member and got seats rite near the back of the bus, including the 2 n front that were facing the back.. so I cramed extra sleeping bags between the 2 sets of seats and TADA! an almost full size bed! There were a couple of rows at the back of the bus like that so it gained the name of 1st class!!

On a side note, heres a good giggle at a troop bus... i THINK it was the drum bus... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD-K8BIOaSs BUS PARTY! (And to who ever filmed it.. I think ther were only like 2-3 members who actually live in Wyoming lol)

  8. I live in the Phoenix area and I'm not sure you can blame the airline, as bark scorpions are plentiful here and often come into people's homes, where a travel bag will look temptingly cozy. I imagine quite a few scorpions have become accidental hitchikers on airplanes, but most of them just don't crawl out of the bag during the flight.

Anyway, mere scorpions should pose no threat to hearty drum corps types. My wife was stung by one once, and she survived even though she is a woodwind.

Oh dear god I'm a string player... doomed!

  9. I KNOW that the $2000+ in flights, accom etc it's costing me to get to finals is going to be will worth it!!! Troop shirts are all washed and ready to be packed away for the trip!!!

I toured with Troop from all days thru till finals last year and I am so proud of what they have achieved over the last 2 years!! GO TROOP!!!!

I actually had a written warning at work 2 days ago from using my phone to check scores, when my manager asked why I had my phone out I explained, his reply was "it's not a life or death situation is it?" I instantly replied with "YES!" to wich he responded with a written warning... I shall know to be more sneeky with my phone at work from now on!!

  10. the presidential suite is also available...for $2500 a night.

Oh OUCH! Thats more then it is costing me to stay in midtown NYC for the week after finals!!(just :P )! ... thats actually more then I am spending on return flights from Australia!! lol

I'm staying at la quinta inn its almost exactly 1/2 way between the stadium and the airport.. I have NO idea if thats going to work or not... Anybody know how much a cab fair would be?? lol

  11. Step 1/

    Get a business degree

    Step 2/

    Get some experience

    Step 3/

THEN you can think about it..

    OR

Put your winning into sponsoring a corps you love or that needs a leg up.. Or maybe even start up a sponsorship fund for super talented kids who cant afford to march.

I work in event/venue/artist/festival/etc management, when you decide to get into things like this it’s a life changing decision.. it will be the only thing you do / know.

  12. Twelve-step program:

Step 1: Admit that you have a problem.

Step 2: Get in the car.

Step 3: Drive four hours to the nearest show. Pay $15 for a ticket. Sit for four hours and watch.

Step 4: Continue to acknowledge that you have a problem.

    Step 5: Stay for encore.

    Step 6: Return to car.

Step 7: Drive four hours home.

Step 8: Muse on the nature of your problem.

    Step 9: Watch on-demand videos.

Step 10: Have an epiphany that said "problem" is not a problem after all.

    Step 11: Buy finals tickets.

Step 12: Return to life as it should be.

Hmm... can't drive there but does a 13 hour international flights then a bunch of internal flights and a small fortune in cab fairs, bus rides and hotels count?!!
