I think the phrase "act like you've been here before" is applicable here... they were both amazing shows. Relax!
-
You know they named that blue ball. Any guesses?
Lance Armstrong during a dry spell?

If you were like me and had the feed switch to the "In the Tunnel" feed and not fix itself, close out of the window and reopen it. Works fine after that.

No love for 1993?
1. Cadets of Bergen County - In the Spring, At the Time When Kings Go Off to War (97.4)
2. Star of Indiana - The Music of Barber and Bartok (97.3)
3. Phantom Regiment - The Modern Imagination (96.2)
4. Blue Devils - A Don Ellis Portrait (95.1)
Maybe not the highest scoring top 4 ever but talk about four incredible shows...

Beddis hired back to Scouts as director of percussion + battery arranger according to Jim Mason on Facebook.

In an earlier thread (like a month earlier) some one mentioned the idea of Crown doing the Lion King as their show. Some one else shut this down due to the fact that they thought John Williams wrote the score and we all know that he's a stickler about allowing his music to be arranged. Well I did some research and Hanns Zimmer, Elton John and Tim Rice all took hand in the score composition and the song writing for the film. I know Hanns Zimmer will allow corps to use his music since this season Bluecoats are doing 160bpm from Angels and Demons and in 2008, Spirit had a bit of Batman Begins in their ballad. Looks like there's hope for the Lion King show possibility
It's not the fact that it's John Williams (which no, it's not), it's the fact that it's DISNEY, which is probably the one entity even worse than Williams in this matter. Plus the fact that three people wrote the score makes for big trouble... getting permission from all three will not be fun.

Ok I'll go. Which existing corps has beaten every corps but has not won the title yet? There are two possible answers for this one I think. hint: its not crown
Didn't Bluecoats do this in 2007?

March Camp video up... with a good chunk of music.

They don't sound too bad for March.

For power: 94 BD
For precision: 93 Star
For both: 91 Star

I think I also remember reading that Teal Sound was changing theirs.
I highly doubt that. Didn't they just get new ones last year?
And don't forget Madison, though theirs won't exactly be "new".

In the latest Field Pass from Janiary 21st, Dan Acheson mentions Thursday, May 13th as the date.
Considering how many of the top corps are moving in that weekend, isn't there a fear that a lot of the people in one of the top demographics DCI would be shooting for in this (kids that are actually marching corps) are going to be too busy saying goodbye to their friends and family to go?

"On the Waterfront" is roughly 20 minutes of terrific music, and I wish the Cadets had brought it back. Now with the new "Bernstein rule" in effect, I doubt we'll hear it again.
You mean like we heard it in 2008 with Bluecoats?

Oh, sorry... I thought you wanted a list of corps that are active now that didn't exist in 1972. My bad.
Corps die, corps are resurrected, new corps begin. It's the circle of life. I'm tired of this argument.
(EDIT) And that's leaving out a bunch of corps that didn't go to finals... Impulse, Incognito, etc.

For me:
1. 95 Madison - No comparison
2. 89 SCV - Just so much emotion
3. 08 Phantom - Ditto
4. 91 Star - Cross to cross; nuff said.
5. 99 Madison - From that block to the cross to star, just balls to the wall
6. 84 Cadets - Hard to describe
6. 00 Cadets - Maybe the dirtiest I've ever seen out of Cadets, but the emotion gets me every time
7. 97 Madison - Fun and exciting
8. 88 Madison - Just wow
10. 04 SCV - Pure amazing, from the rippling company front to the surprise soft ending

I think to say the director is the one with the "...final say on all things having to do with the operational and staffing aspects of the corps..." validates my arguement, because according to the video, Jim is the one who brought all the key people on the staff on board, and he certainly makes it sound as if that was solely his doing.
Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but if I were a corps director and Jim Mason came to me and said, "Hey, I can get you Thom Hannum, Donnie Van Doren, Jim Prime, etc.", I'd say yes. Maybe I'm naive, but I'm guessing Komnick didn't have a problem with it.

so as I am not familiar with piece and it is based on a poem, can we expect dialogue?
Symphonic poem =/= Traditional "poem"
The source music is just music; there's no words in it.
-
Well, if they enter the field, and there are two guard members, one dressed as "New Moon", and the other dressed as "Old Moon", you'll know that "the rut" is alive and well.
(Seriously, enough with the 'character' shows, folks - it's way over.)
Oh God, please don't tell me they're doing a Twilight show...
-
Shower time = fun time. You get used to it.
-
My only 2010 prediction so far - The Cavaliers wont be NEARLY as bad as everyone seems to expect.....
Really? You actually think they're going to make finals?
-
Maybe a better switch would be to "Atlanta Spirit." According to your philosophy, they would finish #2. Not bad!
I hope my beloved BAC becomes "A Crusader Corps of Boston."
Great! Now you've figured out the secret. Now Hop is going to read this and change his corps' name to the Aardvarks of Bergen County (ABC for short) and screw everything up. Thanks a lot!

I'll bite... not a whole lot of information out there yet, but I'll go with what we know.
1. Academy - Going to be hard to beat them this year IMO, something's just telling me
2. Blue Devils - Step down, but still on Disc 1
3. Blue Knights - 2-5 is going to be close, let me tell you
4. Blue Stars - Love their show designs lately, this year will be even better
5. Bluecoats - Just missing something... maybe a space?
6. Boston - Keep rising
7. Carolina Crown - A step down from last year, but not their fault... vaulted over by a lot of more deserving corps
8. Cascades - Optimistic, yes, but I have a feeling
9. Cavaliers - Staff needs a few years to get into it
10. Colts - Always love their brass book, I think they have what it takes this year
11. Crossmen - Big gap after this
12. Glassmen - I actually had them in 11th at first (seems to be a consistent trend), but forgot someone and couldn't move anyone down
13. Jersey Surf - Love the direction this corps is taking, but not quite yet
14. Madison Scouts - New Staff will do great things, just not yet
15. Mandarins - Never really sure why they don't get the love I think they should
16. Pacific Crest - Asphalt Cocktail is a good choice for them, but not this year
17. Phantom - They just keep dropping unfortunately
18. Pioneer - I guess the judges just really don't like Irish music...
19. Santa Clara Vanguard - Ballet for Martha was great, just not sure they can follow it up
20. Spirit of Atlanta - The name switch will help, just not sure it's the "right" switch
21. Teal Sound - Welcome to World Class!
22. Troopers - Love their energy, but yeah...
23. Zadets - Homage to George Zingali just doesn't pay off
This is fun!

Am I the only one who saw this and got scared that OP saying that Pacific Crest (aka "PC") was pulling a Glassmen/Music City? In that light I'm thrilled that it's this useless topic instead.
