  1. I marched in a "Top 12" corps this past summer, and was going into the season with a little bit of financial trouble.

    1) Save every penny you get. Birthday money, Christmahannukwanzuka money (let your relatives know what your saving for), pennies you find outside your car, SAVE IT ALL. No late night trips to Wendy's either, it ruins your stomach and your wallet.

    2) Go to local, small businesses in your area and ask if they would be willing to help you with your cause. Be sure to be professional about it, dress up a little. I had a deal with a local hair-cut place for every customer that used a specific coupon, I would get $5 towards my drum corps fees. Something small like that can go a far way.

    3) If you get a spot with your corps of choice, constantly communicate your situation to the corps management. Also, ask them for ideas, they usually have many great suggestions and keep you on the right track.

    4) Hit up your great great step-aunt in-law twice removed. Even if you haven't talked to them in a while, it might be nice to re-establish a connection. Let your far off relatives know what your up too, and even invite them to a show near them over the summer to see what their money is going towards.

    5) Contact your local Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, etc. It varies from group to group, but one of them might be willing to shell out $100 or so.

There are many more options, but I have found those to be the most successful. I was able to pay off my entire tuition before move-ins, and even had some left-over money for free-days, and I didn't even have a job.

Good luck, hope that helped a little!

  2. so it sounds like there's still reverb issues which i thought was going to be addressed. i know when you have a stadium like this, there's bound to be some sound issues, but i thought i heard they were going to be working with acoustics specialists to minimize this.

overall still nice, too bad they were too stingy to put DCI there like it was supposed to be (inside sources tell me the stadium was ready to go and they just wanted to save the first event for a Colts game)

Well, when we drove by Lucas Oil on the way to finals, there were still construction workers cutting steel and cementing steps/handicap ramps on the outside. It looked very close to completion at the time, but I'm sure there were some housekeeping things that needed to be taken care of for safety reasons. So oh well, I thought IU worked at pretty well considering the circumstances, we will see how Lucas Oil works out this year.

  3. have they recently updated some of the pictures on the site, or am i crazy? ex. when you click on corps at the top, is the phantom picture that shows up in the middle new?

finally when do they update the clip for each corps for their specific page?

    edit:spelling

Yes, their site is updated. They update it after every championship, and display the champions from each divison on the corps home page. You can tell it is Phantom from this year because of their sashes/guantlets, and you can see SCVC behind the guard member under the open class pic. The clips are updated as they are going to get for now, they only play clips from the previous year.

  4. At the Drums Across the Pacific, 2008:

Announcer: "Performing their 2008 program, "DRUMS ALONG THE PACIFIC!" Drum Corps International is proud to present..."

He did it for every corps there, I'm really suprised that he didn't notice each corps had the same show...

    And in Atlanta, 2008:

The Crossmen were on the field, and Brendt Crocker was announcing.

Crocker: "Please welcome to the field........THE GLASSMEN!!!!!!!!!!............."

    Crowd:

    Crocker: ...........THE CROSSMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    And SemiFinals 08:

Crocker: "Performing their 2008 program, Constantly Risking Asurbidy, Drum Corps International is proud to present, The Blue Devils!"

If you listen to him on finals night, he really made sure he pronounced that one right.

  5. Well, I wouldn't go THAT far, but I do agree that with BlueMan, Stomp, and Blast, they aren't anything we haven't seen before. In order to win, they need bring something to that stage that people haven't seen before. Now, as to what that could be, I have no clue. :thumbs-up:

After watching them tonight, an idea popped into my head for what they could do to spice up their act and make it different. I read somewhere on DCP that the Colt's guy was gonna do something with cymbals, I was bummed they didn't pull any plates out a slice at each other or something, that is definatley an art that not even the whole drum corps communty gets to see, so I think if they pulled that out they would have gotten America's attention.

Also, when they jumped onto each other's shoulders and started playing the two story rack, it got me thinking how that was definatley different from their other performances. If they found a way to mix in some sort of acrobatics, that would be something that hasn't been put on stage before. (Blue Man Group is mostly acting, Cirque isn't focused on music, Stomp only hang from wires, and Blast is drumcorps indoors). The only flaw is they would need to learn how to become gymnists within the next week. Oh, well. Best of luck to them, I used up my 10 votes.

  6. Vegas already has Stomp and Blue Man Group. Why do they need a blatant rip off of both shows?

    They wern't even that good.

    Sorry!

  7. I agree, this is the most BS topic DCP gets and there are plenty.

First off this got me pretty disgruntled that PC & Mandarins are singled out as being overachievers :-/ has anyone thought it possible that corps can actually improve aside from East Coast corps...Drum Corps does not live and die in the Midwest & East. Kind of reminds me of a good current baseball analogy New York Yankees & the Tampa Bay Rays. No one really thought Tampa Bay would be much of anything but look at them now? and the Yankees?...yeah, that's right, put this topic to rest. Who cares, just because some corps West of the Mississippi place high earlier on (warranted or not warrented), last I checked finals didn't end in June. You want to change it get your Midwest corps and Eastern corps to come out West again and not just because of finals (aside from Phantom). All in all this topic is dead and is nothing more than attacking corps who people believe unworthy of a certain score but until you actually view the show keep your comments and ignorance to yourself and spare us. Thanks

    I like you.

  8. Drums Along the Rockies was definatly "...their 2007 program, Exclamation Mark..."

Or are you asking if someone maybe just announced it with a little too much emphasis as an exclamatory sentance? (as in "...their 2007 PROGRAM!!!! WOO HOO!!!)

If a corps ever does the music of the Artist Formerly Known as Prince and titles it with the appropriate symbol, we are in for a whole new world of announcer slip up fun...

I thought it was the second one, with too much emphasis. But the first one is just as funny.
