  1. I guess what I was trying to ask is wouldn't all those things add up to a more entertaining show?

I know there isn't an "entertaining? yes/no" field on the judge sheet, but I would think someone would enjoy a show more that they understood better via the criteria you listed.

I also find it interesting that you say the problem is that BD is lacking in the technical aspect, and strong in the enjoyment factor... general opinion each year seems to be the reverse.

    But anyway...

  2. Actually I was more entertained by BD. That's the problem... I believe that's why they are winning. (Last night) I saw a corps that marched, played, and had a better general effect than the other two corps... That was PR.

I thought general effect was (at least partially) an assessment of entertainment value?

  3. In Vista tonite, in Phantom's show I counted 3 deaths. 1 murder by a sword. 1 colorguard member has her throat slashed by the drum major. And a death (murder?) in the middle of the horn circle. This is for real, I'm not kidding. Does this bother anyone?

It doesn't bother me, because there isn't blood, which by movie rating standards, puts it at a pg-13

  4. I think a good example of this was the BD backwards dance marathon. I just don't think they made it clear that what was going on was, in fact, a backwards dance marathon. I brought a few folks to see them and didn't tell them anything about it ahead of time. After their first viewing, they just sat with a "wtf was that?" look on their face. When I said "Backwards Dance Marathon", they went "Ohhhhhhhh" and enjoyed it much more the next night.

Good idea, well performed, just a little too ambitious for their ability to get it across, imo, which detracted just enough from the performance to make it a 4th place show.

Maybe the name of the show should have been "Dance Derby of the Century: Presented Backwards"

  5. Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents from the show... I thought all the corps and the audience should get mad props for putting up with that ridiculous weather! Wow, it was like a full tour condensed into two days for this trip.

Most of what I saw and heard from the other corps was pretty good, I especially enjoyed being able to watch Frontier from the stands! (Saw GCS from the side at the fence... sounded great!) this was the first all-age corps show that I'd ever been at, and it's really great to see such a wide variety of people coming together to put their shows on the field. Can't wait til next year's show!
