  1. I'm telling you all now...this is going to be an absolute dogfight from here on out. BD, Crown, SCV, and Bluecoats will brawl this thing out tooth and nail for the next 3 weeks on a nightly basis and I literally can not wait!!

How I think they will finish:

    1. BD

    2. Bluecoats

    3. Crown

    4. SCV

How I want them to finish:

    1. Crown

    2. SCV

    3. Bluecoats

    4. BD

  2. I've actually thought about this topic a lot more since my initial response and I have a few more choices:

    1. 2013 SCV - Les Mis show that was simply breathtaking at the end and although I only saw it twice thta season it is still one of my favorites of the last few years.

    2. 1992 BD - That closer though....I remember sitting at my first DCI show that summer and when they hit that hit of When A Man Loves A Woman I will never forget how that made me feel! It is to this day one of those iconic moments that I could listen to every day for the rest of my life and be content with life.

  3. 1995 in general was a great drum corps summer. Lots of energy! Bluecoats did an amazing patriotic show, as did the Cadets in one of the best patriotic shows ever. BD was masterful and dark. Cavaliers were cutting-edge in visual and effect. Madison was simply AWESOME!!! I think they received 6 standing ovations throughout their show. It was a rock concert. If you were in the stadium you know. Crossmen were wonderful, and so were many others.

That was my first summer of marching (Magic of Orlando) and I remember just being in awe of the power that that Madison hornline produced night after night and they were constantly on! That show hit every single night and had it been put on the field a year prior it would have mopped up!

  4. A great brass book. I like their 2003 book even better. Too bad they over-played it on finals night. They had a fabulous brass line in 2003 that would have won high brass had they just played the way they did all summer.

That is a stellar brass book in 2003 and I remember sitting at Finals that year and just hoping that they would dial it in a little and it never happened.

  5. This is a fascinating topic because it means different things to different people.

    1996 SCV

1995 Cadets - although not really underrated most don't talk about it because of the wild BD show and the majestic Cavies show from the same year. Couple that with Madison (one of my fav they have ever done) and it is kind of an ill forgotten treasure. Visually it was a great show.

    1. Blue Devils 1996
    2. Star of Indiana 1993
    3. Santa Clara Vanguard 2004 (This is a remarkable horn book!)
    4. Madison Scouts 1995 (I loved this show and was astonished that it placed 4th)
    5. Suncoast Sound 1986
    6. Crossmen 1997 (Toughest one out place but this show should have placed 4th that year…best drumline I’ve heard out of Crossmen in years!)
    7. Bluecoats 2007 (94.050 and in 7th place…really?)
    8. Magic of Orlando 1996 (Marched this show and so it had to make it in)
    9. Blue Stars 2016 ( Really like this show a lot)
    10. Velvet Knights 1990
    11. Spirit of Atlanta 2013
    12. Troopers 2009 (This was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever seen at a drum corps show was them being announced onto the field at Finals)

A lot of these could easily be swayed but this is my list.

  6. I actually like the opener of that show better. Nothing can ever beat that opener in my mind. The slow build is mind-boggingly good

That entire show is just stunningly done from the uniforms to the visual aspects of it and literally everything about it. The honline was world class and the visual program is one of the best I have ever seen them perform (outside of 1993)

  7. That '91 Star line is probably a Top 3 line of all time in my book but if your looking for the best line i have ever heard on recording or live it would go to '96 Phantom. That book was not the hardest in the world but the depth and emotion that that they conveyed and the fact that as a corps they had been runner up so many times and to see them win that first World Championship was really something special. '86 Suncoast Sound, '93 Star of Indiana, and '96 Blue Devils would probably round out a personal Top 5 for me.

  8. See this is my kind of thread! There have been some great ones over the years obviously and some just work because they work!

    1. BD '96 - This is hands down the end all be all when it comes to impacts. I marched that summer w/ Magic and we saw them quite a few times and I loved watching people who weren't prepared for that opening hit just flip out over the first 25 seconds of that show.

    2. Crown in '09 - This is probably one of the most underrated hornlines to ever set foot on a DCI field and that first big hit of the opener is just jaw droppingly good.

    3. Scouts '95 - Starts w/ the sop solo and that line is so #### loud it is nuts! As is typical w/ a Scouts line it is exceptionally top heavy but Jesus Christ those boys can put some air through those horns.

  9. Unfortuanetly i was unable to make the trip to Indy, primarily because i live in Hawaii so i was relegated to watching it in a movie theatre with 250 h.s. kids who don't have alot of exposure to DCI. They were whispering through the first few shows and giggling but once it started getting good they were silent and by the time Phantom came on you could have heard a pin drop in that place which was pretty cool to see. On to the shows....I have enjoyed watching two shows this year quite a bit more then the others. One is SCV and did they wear that show out tonight! what an amazing performance from that hornline and it showed in the scoring. I am really looking at them to finish strong and possibly medal. The other show that I have liked and I think kind of got scored a little high tonight but that's ok by me is Crown. That horn book is really something else and they have taken full ownership of it and are just laying it on the line every night. This season reminds me of '93 when we had three corps (Cadets, Starr, and Phantom) that were just impeccable in their own right. Looks like Devils are going to win this thing going away which is ok because i think they are the best out there right now but beyond that...who knows how saturday will pan out.
