Crown 08.

Also, to trombone players out there, do you recommend marching Baritone or Euphonium. I'm open to either, though I'm skeptical as to whether or not my arms can handle a Euph.
Some Corps march only Euphs (Phantom). After 2 Winter Camps your arms will be fine. (You'll do enough pushups).
And why top 10? Top 12-13 would be more fun so you have motivation on the last days of rehearsal.

Surf uses Jupiters and they're beautiful (in sound and in looks).
Baritones in Surf use the same size mouthpiece as the standard expectation (6 1/2 AL)
Yes, I would buy an instrument from a Drum Corps because I know it's used but respected.

Glassmen 97, Euph.

Looks more like a Bass Mellophone (That coming from a Trombone player, switching to Baritone for DCI)
You can never have enough Bass, or enough Mellophone. I approve of this instrument.

I don't see any murders in that plotline, therefore they cannot win.

If only all 8 of those spots would go to an extra large Contra section.
But yeah, any word on how they're splitting it (2 more for each section?)

The Smurf Turf of Boise Idaho.

(I haven't marched on it, but I'd love to)

Worry about your "final corps" after you do a year in a "lesser" corps.
Don't think that only the top Corps are worth joining. I've been to an Open Class Corps camp. More intense then you would think. (and tons more fun)

Carl Orff music.
or a Bizet show. I can't remember any other than the Glassmen 1997.

phantom 08
when the corps is coming on to the field and the slaves (guard) are suffering and being beaten, after the drum major dispute you see a guard member reaching for a tenor player as if asking for help. the tenor player then gives him a big kick to the head and the slave goes down. a close friend of mine who spun with phantom told me that that "scene" was completely improvised on the spot. i dont know if im telling it 100% accurate, but from what i got from my friend telling me, as the guard guy was looking back, he noticed the camera was on him and he was on the jumbotron. so when we see him desperately reaching to the tenor player for mercy, he's really saying "hit me! we're on camera, hit me!" and they completely improvised the kick and reaction on the spot.
i am still blown away by this. the backstory behind it makes it one of my all time favorite drum corps moments. it really is a testament to how drum corps is not just made up of musicians and dancers, but for well, fully rounded performers.
Simply incredible.
I listen to shows way more than I watch, so I can't find many visual quirks.

1. Cavaliers
2. Blue Devils
3. Holy Name Garfield Cadets of BC. (they should try to think of a longer title of their show, to make this score announcement as excessive as possible)
4. Phantom Regiment
5. Bluecoats
6. Santa Clara Vanguard
7. Carolina Crown
8. Madison Scouts
9. Blue Stars
10. Colts
11. Troopers.
12. Jersey Surf
More of a wishlist then a prediction...

I dislike it when people yell "Go Meghan!" or some girls name right before Cavies or the Scouts.
otherwise, if it doesn't ruin a moment for the corps, I like it.

Best of luck to Surf in their first WC season :)

BEEF.
Shortest lyrics in DCI history? :P

I can scream pretty well on my bone, guess I should stop playing that triple F when I get bored in marching band.....
Bored? Low Brass? Marching Band? Unheard of!
-
I guess I would look less weird if I finger in the air then when I do slide positions without thinking :P
That's a neat program, CorpsBuff. Is there a way to turn 4th valve off, though? It's confusing me, and to my knowledge there aren't 4th valves in DCI. :/

I'm surprised no one said this: A POWER STRIP!!!!! You're kid's gonna have an iPod and a phone on tour (I also brought a Nintendo DS), and with everyone bringing their own electronics it's necessary to make new plugs.
So bringing cell phones/iPods isn't rare? I've never seen them mentioned so I wasn't sure. Do you need the car charger, or will the wall charger be fine (Or does it change depending on where you go/what buses you get)

My dad bought me a Cadets performance/warm up book. There's a lot of exercises in there I'll be working on as much as I can :)
-
After getting the CD and listening to the shows, the Cadets are one of my favorite. I enjoy the narration. Fifth was appropriate, though.

The fingerings posted are the ones I was aware of (not with any sort of speed though... yet)
Treble clef was mentioned... I can read in in (slowly) and if it was treble I'd expect it to be on Baritone, and that would be an auto-cut for me out of a corp. :/
Thanks for the help, glad to see I won't be cut for something I can't completely control :)

I've never really had a chance to play Baritone (or any valved instrument) in the past, other then one year in marching band. All my music was purely muscle memory, and my reading music is a little shaky.
I know I can work on that by just reading my band's Trombone parts on the school Baritone and work on it, but I doubt it'll be enough to get me up to anywhere near a division I's standard by November camp.
Is there a site-reading as part of the audition process? I don't have much experience in any of that (For that matter, is there a prepared piece type of audition, or do they provide music at the beginning of the session and want to see how we improve overall?)
Thanks in advance.

I've like to see those 5 bass's form a V as a section.
Part of Vanguard's image is their cymbal line. They at least are going to stay. I hope that new technology doesn't end old traditions that everyone loves.
Drum Corps who are not finalist still a drum corps

Try it in a Corps under 17th. even less. (so I'd assume, I've never made semis).
