  1. I knew I would march with them one day. I remember that season. Look how old most of the members look, the guy next to the bass drummer, a cymbal player presumably, looks like hes in his 40's.

Funny! :lookaround: That's my younger brother Jim Amador. Jimmy started with SCV in '67 and only marched two seasons (didn't age out). I started in '66 (Sparks) and marched till '72 but also didn't age out (got drafted).

He'll get a good laugh. BTW - Dan Vanetta is in the 3rd row far right! I'm in the last line of horns under the white California flag.

  2. My Drum Corps moment was our (SCV) first major show in Racine, Wisconsin in 1970 which at that time was the center of the universe for Drum Corps. I remember coming up to the starting line and no one knew who the Santa Clara Vanguard were at that time so the crowd headed out to the nearest refreshment stand to get that last beer before the Casper Troopers came on. We opened with a big sound and the crowd slowly started wondering back to the stands and by concert we had everyone back in their seats and up on their feet. By the end of concert (Wayne Downey solo) the crowd went nuts and we couldn't even hear our drum major start us up. At the end of the show the entire crowd was screaming and on their feet before we finished. The announcer went beserk screaming what a show! A moment I won't forget.

Second drum corps memory (I'll get killed for making it 2nd) was meeting my wife (marched with Bleu Raeders) when I was taught M&M with the Black Watch (Auburn, WA).

  3. Keith was playing baritone with Sky's Alumni when he passed away ... he had arranged a ballad of Schindler's List for the corps as a tribute to Hy ... I believe he was also arraning for the Air Force Alumni corps ... there are many HOF's that Keith should be a part of ...

Thanks for the information. Can let me know more on how he passed away. When he was in Seattle his partner was Kathy Shinbo who we were all friends with. I was wondering if they were still together at his passing. Thanks!

  4. I got to know Keith Markey back in the early '70s when he lived in Seattle (teaching the Seattle Imperials). I since moved overseas for 20 plus years and recently returned and discovered that he passed away in March of 2003. Can anyone update me on what happened to Keith and where he last was teaching corps (he was always linked to a corps!). I'd like to know if his family is still involved (with corps) so I could contact them. Thank you in advance.

For what it's worth Keith Markey really deserves to be in the DCI Hall of Fame for all the contributions he did for Drum Corps. Thanks.
