Well whoever it is, he can't be half bad, he was in the USMC D&B, or at least we assume that from the clues. We now know he is not from Cleveland, but Rochester, but what state? And we can officially rule out Hairbear. That narrows it down a tad or two. I also think there was a clue that his first name is Dick.
-
no it's not. he's an indian.............drinks lots of firewater
OK, then we now know he is from Cleveland.

I think you are aiming at the same guy that SteelCityRabbit was aiming at... nope.
It's not Hairbear.
I really did not think it was him, but sometimes you get that odd angle shot that just doesn't capture a person's true look.

I think it's 76. I came in for the last 2 weeks, due to an injury. I don't think I'm in the pic. Also, I think the pic is reversed. Mike Neer the snare on the right always marched on the left.
I am thinking it is not reversed. The rifles appear to be at an order arms with the rifle on their right. The sop player has his right hand on top as to finger the valve with his thumb. The contras appear to be on the correct shoulder also.

Let's just say that the former corps director of Ohio Brass was not a Steel Cty fan.
so a vehicle with ohio license plates was used to pick up the shakos.
Next DCA contest: former Ohio Brass director sees his shakos in Steel City!
A story I heard many times after a show, at a bar, beer in hand.

Funny but the video was right - Gail caught me cutting school and for punishment he had me show up for detention which turned out to be a Drum Corps Practice. Was hooked immediately and played for Gail 7 years.
Great story, thanks for sharing.

1st off, happy birthday to all I missed recently, Tom, Roo and any others. I don't get to come here as often as I like and I fall behind a bit.
This next guess who looks a lot like one of our own, someone who's 1st and last names rhyme, well sorta, they have only one name. The hat is throwing me off though.
Am I close?

just an unknown concept or rarely used word such as "bivalve" is all it takes!
Isn't a BiValve a valve that goes both ways?

1978 General Butler Vagabonds, the mello player darn near falling backwards is the same little girl who played with Avant Garde early 80's in the snareline.

No, Mike, that was OUR buses!
Hard to argue that, as great a corps 27th was, their transportation left alot to be desired. I've read several stories here on DCP.

Sure, eventually. But I'll bet John's ten bucks the snare drummer got there first!
Garry in Vegas
Come on now, how are we sure the sop soloist was ever there?
She may have joined the abbey later in life.

I was thinking it looked a lot like the school Glassmen in the 80s used for camps. Seems to me they bought that school for a permanent facility. I can't remmber the name of the school, but it was close to the bingo hall.
Regards,
John
Every school in Ohio looks like this. I know the one you are thinking of, west of the Glass City on RT.2.
I thought the same thing the second I saw the pic.

That's probably 1979. I doubt it's the late 80s, as they only wore those unis in 1986.
My bad, just a typo, I meant 70's.

Here's an old pic from the mid 70's from a drum corps show, probally Ypsilanti MI. at DCI North.

Darned if I can figure what year....I thought maybe 86, but if so, this pic must be from before finals, because they had different gauntlets (the shiny silver ones).
In looking at 86 on back on FN, I didn't see these gauntlets with black gloves until the mid/late 70s (there were even a couple of year with this gauntlet and NO gloves!)...but in the year with this gauntlet/glove combo, there was also a narrow beltfrom the right shoulder to the left hip....this is after 77 because of the 2 valve config.....any old guys help here? I'm stumped.
This pic was in the Ypsilanti Press, Thursday, June 19, 1980.
Has to be 1979 or older.

Ahhhh...the Olds Ultratone II...I played on in Air Force tech school....not a BAD horn, but I wanted my King K-20!!
That's the same horn I play on today in Steel City, actual horn, not just style.

Ten bucks she went out with a snare drummer.
Regards,
john
Thanks, I'll take your ten bucks, she dated the sop soloist, Johnny Muetchler (sp?)
