  1. Does this mean it is now "Drum and Band Instruments Corps."? :(

Kind of reminds me of 1976 when they brought in 2 valve sops. I remember all the old timers saying it was the beginning of the end for the activity.

  2. Great advice. Let me add if I may, just like people looking for a fast way to lose weight, there is no substitution for good old diet and exercise. In the case of horn playing, there is no substitution for good old practice, at least a hour a day and seven days a week. I have had people say to take a day a week off from it, but over the 25 years of playing, I found that playing everyday is best. Not that I follow my own advice all the time.

I was taught many years ago also that if you want to play the high parts, you got to practice the high parts. I know this sounds silly, but I have seen players who think if they "save it for the show", you will have more lip left. I think you all know what I mean, and know people who practiced this.

  3. If I did a Latin show, I'd have El Gato as the closer.

If you mean El Gato Triste (OK. I know that might not be proper spelling), Etobicoke Oakland Crusaders did it in the 70"s with an awsome pinwheel move and some real nice sop solos. I am sure Hawthorne Cabs did it also.

  4. I have heard through the grapevine that Col. Truman Crawford is spending his retirement putting all of his arrangements on the internet for anyone to use. It came from a pretty good source, although I have no idea where they can be found.

  5. Wow, a ton of memories rush back, I am not even going to try and pick a favorite, but let me add this, how come there seems to be a huge number of female mello soloist listed? Hmmmmmmmmm? Maybe we have stumbled on to something.

  6. Right now, I am playing on a 20 year old Schilke 13A4A, wether I am playing my sop or trumpet. I used to go to a music store in Oakland CA. were they would let you try out different MP's. I picked it over 4 other 13A4A's. It just felt right. I have played on in my younger years MF jet tones, guardenelli (I hope that's close) with removable rims, schilke 6A4A, and even a pardube double cup.

  7. I would have to say no. I bought the video "Best of the Best" a few years back and it starts with '74 SCV in Ithaca, N.Y. I know there is a disclaimer at the beginning of the tape about '72 & '73 not having any video.
