AND THE CHASE THING GIVING 4 CORPS MONEY....wtf? HALF OF THE OPEN CLASS LAST YEAR IS GONE OR WILL BE. CROWN IM SURE HAS MONEY WHILE OPEN CLASS IS FADING. IT SUCKS. I HOPE DCI OPENS EYES AND SEES THIS. you realize only one corps from top 5 OC last year will be back to indy?
To clarify, this was decided based on how many people voted for a particular charity. It wasn't just given out at random.

As a Floridian, I'm obligated to say Magic 2002.

Any VK or Bridgemen show ever.

I just read that in 2013 Lucas Oil will be booked for another event... meaning we get another venue for that year's finals, hopefully.

orlando is only 1.5 hours further than gainesville... just saying.
(i've never been to the citrus bowl, but it's got to be a heck of a lot better. the acoustics in the swamp would be AWFUL for drum corps)
Yeah, the swamp echoes when a single person yells... I can't imagine its effect with a full Corps on the field.

Whoa. I'm not advocating anything here. I'm just asking whether y'all think one response to the atmosphere inside could be simplified scores - and with it a more melodic, more familiar approach. It struck me that some corps might skip some more intricate choices where they might not get credit. And if they did, would a more 80s approach to the repetoire be all bad? Are y'all saying it would be bad?

I'd like every year to be like 1995 forever and ever. The end.

Are you serious? I could probably identify every hornline by listening to them play one note, lol. I'm sure the drum-geeks in here would say the same thing about percussion.
You've never been to a bar with a judge before, I take it...
Also, everyone would be able to tell the Cavaliers are the Cavaliers by the way they march, same with Cadets, Blue Knights, etc. I just don't think it's possible to remove any and all "slotting bias" realistically.

NOT money to march...I'm old now and get real people presents.
How about a toy train?

If I were incredibly rich, I would travel the country founding Corps, and trying to make tuition affordable for members. But that's just me.

I think the success we are seeing in DCA is thanks to the debacle that goes by the initials DCI. Just keep blurring the lines between marching band and drum corps, hold your championships indoors with horrendous sound issues and those who are really interested iin marching in a drum corps will look at DCA. The nice thing is, they won't age out of DCA!
Most kids my age that march or want to march DCI have no real problem with any of the recent rule changes. They just enjoy marching. Perhaps older vets might be offended by these issues, but the turnout for these DCA Camps are mostly youth members wanting to march. I think that the economy is probably a good bet for why kids are trying out DCA, or maybe there was just a lot more exposure than was originally thought after last year's season.

I'm sad this thread died.

I personally have never heard drum corps in Lucas Oil, but I'd rather not have Drum Corps sacrificing something that defines Drum Corps... being loud.
-
Saw one of the Govies play his horn with one hand this year but no idea of the reason why....
He only has one arm.

more fans know the more recent stuff
This. People still have all of the 2009 shows in their heads.

Troopers' videos are always awesome, and I think it's probably because the guy who makes them is the same guy who made America's Core I and II.

I want to see Anaheim win again. They're due for a repeat.

But you are a bass drum expert.
What is louder, a 24" bass drum or a 30" bass drum?
That depends on the head, the mallet, the materials the drum is made out of, the velocity at which its being hit, the technique used in hitting it, and most of all, the person who is hitting it.

I think a Corps should use instruments only in the key of F. Why? I have no idea. It would probably sound cool, though.
-
Knowing admittedly very little about music, Bruckner8 mentioned that Barbershop groups use chords and intonation really unheard of in Drum Corps, and I was thinking it'd be awesome if a Drum Corps tried to learn something from a Barbershop approach to music.

You know what I think? Good luck to the Madison Scouts, or any other Corps competing in 2010! What's the point of this bickering?

In Man of LaMancha, they throw in a little move from Blast at 2:56.
I love their rendition of Man of LaMancha.

Fastest bass 5!
And I mean running.

2003 far ahead in first, 2009, then 2006.
2003 was my second choice, 2006 following it. 2009 was my first year marching Corps (albeit not a DCI Corps), but it just didn't seem like that great of a year for EVERY Corps, like 2008 did.
Platinum Drum & Bugle Corps for the 2010 Season!

With so many open class Corps folding, I'm curious as to how the open house went for this.
