  1. AND THE CHASE THING GIVING 4 CORPS MONEY....wtf? HALF OF THE OPEN CLASS LAST YEAR IS GONE OR WILL BE. CROWN IM SURE HAS MONEY WHILE OPEN CLASS IS FADING. IT SUCKS. I HOPE DCI OPENS EYES AND SEES THIS. you realize only one corps from top 5 OC last year will be back to indy?

To clarify, this was decided based on how many people voted for a particular charity. It wasn't just given out at random.

  2. orlando is only 1.5 hours further than gainesville... just saying.

(i've never been to the citrus bowl, but it's got to be a heck of a lot better. the acoustics in the swamp would be AWFUL for drum corps)

Yeah, the swamp echoes when a single person yells... I can't imagine its effect with a full Corps on the field.

  3. Whoa. I'm not advocating anything here. I'm just asking whether y'all think one response to the atmosphere inside could be simplified scores - and with it a more melodic, more familiar approach. It struck me that some corps might skip some more intricate choices where they might not get credit. And if they did, would a more 80s approach to the repetoire be all bad? Are y'all saying it would be bad?

I'd like every year to be like 1995 forever and ever. The end.

  4. Are you serious? I could probably identify every hornline by listening to them play one note, lol. I'm sure the drum-geeks in here would say the same thing about percussion.

You've never been to a bar with a judge before, I take it...

Also, everyone would be able to tell the Cavaliers are the Cavaliers by the way they march, same with Cadets, Blue Knights, etc. I just don't think it's possible to remove any and all "slotting bias" realistically.

  5. I think the success we are seeing in DCA is thanks to the debacle that goes by the initials DCI. Just keep blurring the lines between marching band and drum corps, hold your championships indoors with horrendous sound issues and those who are really interested iin marching in a drum corps will look at DCA. The nice thing is, they won't age out of DCA!

Most kids my age that march or want to march DCI have no real problem with any of the recent rule changes. They just enjoy marching. Perhaps older vets might be offended by these issues, but the turnout for these DCA Camps are mostly youth members wanting to march. I think that the economy is probably a good bet for why kids are trying out DCA, or maybe there was just a lot more exposure than was originally thought after last year's season.
