  1. At the Cavaliers, we respect our drill writer and actually march the dots he has provided us to perfect. Each year I marched, I believe the minimal amount of sets I ever had was 211 and went as high as the 230's or 240's. The theory of writing in quotes to march in a rotating box formation is called form drill. Those pesky corps never have a consistant form from show to show! I think SCV is the latest "dot" marching corps just like the Cavaliers are and both corps need these short 4 step dots in order to create a consistent picture on the field. Otherwise you learn the dots early season for the purpose of knowing where on the field you need to be then you just kinda wing it in that general area all season. Blue Devils are a perfect example and it is no surprise that they are successful at it even with never have consistent forms. So, depending on your philosophy on marching drill I could easily estimate that most world class corps march anywhere from 150-250 sets minimal, and 150 is a very small amount of drill. It really isn't as hard as you may think. These kids go out and march ALL DAY LONG EVERY DAY!

  2. 2008 would not have been an undefeated season for BD...the Cavaliers won 95.9 to 95.65 in Allentown (both marched friday night).

Ah yes, I enjoyed being apart of the corps that year, ending undefeated streaks is loads of fun! When the show was over, BD members took tin cans and started walking around our food truck area tapping their 2007 WC rings on them to taunt us I guess. We laughed it off but you gotta love good sportsmanship. Grats to BD for their incredibly long run though, I hate them more than a lot of things but I cant argue with perfection. Bravo!

  3. There is no way in the world Bluecoats have even a remote chance of winning, they have a very nice drum corps but nothing they are doing is innovative. Blue Devils are too good this year, believe it or not the mirrors are innovative and the music they are playing and how they play it is innovative. Crown and Cadets could maybe pop up but I doubt it. Cavaliers are the only corps that could have a shot. The crowd has loved them all season long, plus the rifle stuff and the way they use the electronics this year is really pushing the envelope.

  4. Blue Devils have an ok show. The mirror effects are really pretty cool but I dont really understand whats going on especcially with the brass book this year. Also, yet again they are choosing to run to their sets instead of marching a lot of the time so judging their marching has to be tricky.

I like Cadets show, its on of their more entertaining shows to me in the past few years, I think if they have a mind blowing but clean ending to tag on to this product they will be top 3 otherwise i think they will drop to 5th.

Im sorry but Crowns show is boring, the big hit right when "Carolina Crown" is announced is about the only time they can force some emotion into me other than that they need to march. The body movement can be cleaned easily. The lack of drill in this show is gonna hurt them, changes wont really help eather this late in the season.

Bluecoats have cool music...thats it, they will probably start peeking this week before San Antonio.

Like others have said I agree Cavaliers have the most room to grow, their show isnt that dirty anymore either. IF they are able to keep their pace going and clean, clean, clean, I easily see them in the top 3 again this year.

  5. I'm not surprised. Yesterday was a change day. Before the show tonight the last run thru was the show in Dublin.

Anyway congrats to the Bluecoats! Wins are always a little sweeter when they're at home :)

Yeah Crown made tons of changes yesterday, I'm excited to see where they'll be after they get some cleaning done!

ah excuses, makes their loss that much sweeter. Grats Blue!

  6. I don't mind Honkers and people supporting their corps....but all this undefeated talk is really annoying in that I think , if my feeble mind recalls, in the DCI era there's only been 3 times a corps gone undefeated it's a incredibly hard thing to do and to set your expectations to that level then if and when you do lose it will be devestating...... hard enuff to win a DCI Championship let alone going undefeated as well....better to lose a lot in the early season and win at the end.....

[this is all tongue and cheek, before someone throws rocks]

I guess cavies are in good shape then

  7. I am friends with one of their memebers and he said that this year there is no real theme and that you take what you want from it. He said Mad World can mean a lot of things to a lot of people so if you are looking for a theme, you are left with the option to make it up yourself. The guys love the show apparently and like the crowd reactions they are getting, I think they will pop into top 4 maybe even top 2 by the end.

  8. This may be the first time EVER that Bluecoats are now the frontrunner representing the midwest. It will be interesting if they can stay on top of their perch, and conversely we'll see how Phantom and Cavaliers do coming from behind.

I saw Bluecoats show and their wins over PR and Cavs is no fluke. The win over BD that one year WAS a fluke, but not now. They have got all the pieces, and if you've read my comments, you know that after I saw them they have made me a HUGE Coats drummline fan.

If a corps is the frontrunner in the midwest, that automatically puts them in the running for the title.

well the crowd didnt seem to think this tonight, of the top 3, The Cavaliers are the only corps to get a standing ovation, that is also true for Fort Mills too, Cavies have the crowd on their side this year. Sadly I'm only able to go to 3 more shows but this early season has been interesting.

  9. you know what annoys me about early season? cadets and cavies are marching some serious drill while trying to play some pretty challenging music while crown sounds absolutely amazing but they dont move hardly. I was at the show tonight and frankly crowns drill is easy and clean because of it. So, crown gets big credit for what they are doing and cadets and cavies get shafted for trying to put on a real show. I really hope mid season gets interesting and crowns lack of difficulty catches up with them. I know cadets and cavies are always at the top and everyone wants a new guy on the block but there is a reason they are the big boys, crown decided to play it safe this year and i think their second chance will be gone soon enough.
