  1. Columbus, Ohio - A geographic anomoly. It is 200 miles from the nearest Alumni Corps no matter where you go. 200 miles from Steel City Ambassadors in Pittsburgh, 200 miles from Great Lakes Alumni Corps near Ann Arbor. My bet is that the next two Alumni Corps that are formed will be in Indianapolis, Indiana and Lexington, KY. That would make it 200 miles away from Columbus in all directions, North, South, East and West.

  2. I am out west now, but will be back after Feb 15. I would like to go to the next Steel City rehersal when I get back. Would that be Feb. 26 in Trafford? Thanks.

Although I can't speak for(Fast Eddie) Mr. Rosemeyer, I believe he has plans on playing with Steel City....

  3. not this year but hoping to make an appearance in the Alumni show sometime in the future. But you will see a large contingent of black and gold at DCA.

Right now they are gearing up for some fall events locally and standstills in the spring.

Thanks for the information. I did not mean to imply that you had to be any particular size to be in the Alumni Spectacular. I thought that since Steel City had attained a good size that you would possibly be there this year. I was hoping you would be there to supply more representation to the more central part of the USA. I would love to see Steel City perform.

  4. The Steel City Ambassadors Alumni website says they had 54 horns and 15 percussion members at their 6/5/11 rehersal. Does anyone know if they are going to be in the Alumni Spectacular in Rochester this year? In past years they have been in the mini corps competition, but not in the Alumni Spectacular. I assume they were not in the Alumni Spectacular because they had too few members. If they had good member numbers in June, I thought maybe they would be in the Alumni Spectacular. It would be terrific to see them there.

  5. THe Alumni Association of the Millstadt Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps needs a copy of the 1963 performance of the Millstadt Crusaders. The Millstadt Crusaders stated in 1946 as an American Legion Drums only Corps. It became a Drum & Bugle Corps about 1950. In the early 1950's it became a Junior Drum & Bugle Corps. The first recording the Alumni Association has is 1958. The Alumni Association has a recording of every year until the Crusaders disbanded in 1969, except 1963. If there is anyone out there that some way has a copy of the Millstadt Crusaders 1963 performance please let me know. Thanks.

  6. Okay, Kent, you've received a whole lot of advice. What you need to do now is....

Get your car's oil changed; get the tires checked; sign up for EZPass; and get your butt on the road!!!

Go to Erie, or to Pittsburgh, or to Hawthorne, or to Batavia, or to Bayonne, or to wherever.... BUT GO!!!!

And stop whining about being 62. When we present birthday cakes to certain of our members, the heat from the candles registers on infra-red satellites. It doesn't seem to slow them down at all.

In short, get going!!! You will be absolutely amazed at the great time you'll have and the friends you'll make.

Thanks, Andyroo for the very direct, but terrific advice.

  7. I was in a junior corps as a teenager many years ago. I would like to march in an Alumni Corps. Our Alumni Association meets each summer for a picnic/reunion. I have tried to get someone interested in an Alumni Corps, but nobody has any interest in the idea. I live in Ohio and am far from any Alumni Corps. Is there anyone out there that has joined an Alumni Corps where they lived away from the place the Alumni Corps was located and can tell me how they made it work.

OK. OK. I get it. I have to travel. You Guys are correct travel must be done. Also, you are all correct, Cincinnati Tradition is a two hour drive. However, Tradition is a competition corps. I am 62 years old and I would feel more comfortable in a non-competitive situation. I do not want to have younger people working hard to win and then I let them down because I have a stained muscle of pulled tendon and can not march. I just want to get on the field again in an exhibition corps like an Alumni Corps.

Also, I really want to be in a Corps that is going to be at DCA Alumni Spectacular in Rochester. That is my dream, to march on that field at Rochester in the fall. So I guess the word is travel if that is what I want to accomplish. Now, I have been playing a B-flat trumpet. Not so well, but OK enough. I also have my old G baritone that I play too. I do not think I have the stimina to for the baritone any more. Too heavy and requires too much air to get the sound I want. I was wondering if I need to get a G bugle to practice with or stick with the b-flat. Does anyone know what do most of the Alumni Corps use these days. B-flat or G bugles?

  9. I remember looking over from my seat on the bus one time and noticing a guy peeing into another guys shoes that he had taken off and layed on the floor while he was outside in his marching shoes. Later at a Corps Parents Club meeting his Mother asked the Manager if he had found out "who peed in her sons shoes". My mom was at the meeting and she said that when this woman asked the manager this question the whole meeting started laughing uncontrolably.

  10. I am in Central Ohio and was very happy to hear that DCA will be staying in Rochester. I hate traveling so far east and love Rochester. It is a good compromise location for many fans that would like to attend and do not live along the east coast. I have many friends in Illinois from past Drum Corps days that would like to attend, but can not make it because they have to be at work and at their teaching positions on Monday morning and the trip is just too far. Harrah for Rocheste!!!!!!! I applaud the decision.
