  1. Really? That makes me happy. So will a year with my open class corps get me in good shape to make a world class corps? I especially love blue stars and blue coats...even though phantom is a dream. But probably too advance musically to get into lol...

On tuba, you never know. There are a lot less native tubists in corps than there are native players (or relatively close, i.e. trombone to bari/euph) of other instruments from what I've seen, so you may be surprised where you could end up musically. Strength and visual ability (carriage, posture when halted both at playing position and horns down, not letting the huge instrument make you sacrifice technique, etc) is more likely to be the deciding factor when trying out for upper level lines. If you can bulk up and handle yourself visually and get decently solid chops (not virtuosic, but about on par with a good high school level) then you should be fine for most top 12 World Class corps.

  2. Here's my take on it. I'm a tuba player. While I do actually at least tolerate synths (I only ever truly like them when as a piano, I love having that added element to the show) I absolutely HATE hearing synth bass coming from the pit. It's honestly insulting. The horn line has plenty of bottom without it as long as your hornline isn't top heavy. And even if it is, the bass does nothing to help enhance the sound at all. Give the tubas extra sectional time, having them do perpetual breathing gym, etc...just anything to prevent the thunderous goo from pouring out the speakers.

  3. The 12 finalists have finished their performances at Lucas Oil Stadium and the scores are about to be announced. As the PA announcer I have them in my hand. I glance down and I see that Madison has finished in the middle of the pack. Suddenly, I'm handed another announcement that a meteor is heading towards the earth and will land on the 50-yard line and wipe out all the performers. I'm asked to tell those in the stands not to worry because they will all be safe because they can head upwards to the safety of the concourse. Unfortunately, all the performers on the field will perish EXCEPT there is enough room in the locker rooms to save one drum corps. To be fair, we can either award this to (A) the corps with the highest score --yet to be announced-- or (B) to the one who gets the loudest and most sustained applause. As the announcer, I ask the audience by their applause which method they want to use to determine which corps will survive.

Following the vote, Madison heads for the locker room but pauses, turns and plays "Walk On" from the tunnel one last time as the meteor hits all the George Hopkins influenced corps hardest. It's called justice.

They've already planned for this. There's a reason they won't open the roof at LOS. rolleyes.gif

  4. Yep, and doing it in a very entertaining way. You get it.

Exactly. It might be my favorite show of the night so far simply because it's so unique and is that way by nature, and isn't trying to be anything it isn't. It shows the genius of the design staff to pick a concept that lends itself to their style so well.

  6. Not too sure why I thought of this, but do any of you think we will ever see things such as real cars in a show, or even live animals? Yeah, that sounds off the wall, but I wouldn't put it past drum corps.

Cars would absolutely wreck the field. And it seems like there's already a rule against animals. But there could be some crazier prop-like objects in the future, possibly even self-powered machines (though nothing quite as much as a car I imagine).
