  1. Personal opinion coming from people with greater than average knowledge of an activity creates so much bickering. That's why there is so much of that here on DCP, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Debate is good. (I want to emphasize that I am NOT being a smart-### here.) That's why I think it really says something that there is such a concensus for PR 09 (not ONE vote.) Even though 08 was a mammoth show with which to compare it, no matter how low a show scores, it has its supporters if it moves the audience. This is simply not the case this year. I know it's stupid to post something this reflective here. I have just wondered over the past few weeks what PR will learn from this year? Maybe they make changes accordingly, like Cadets did so well this year?
  2. Should have put a picture of someone else on my twitter. crap. (Way to think it through.)
  3. check this... On phantom's calendar it says that HNC are playing encore. But, today regiment says on facebook: Besides another big show today in Hattiesburg, MS, we will be joined by a group of Regiment alumni percussionist who will be a part of the encore performance tonight on 1812. Hmmm. Predictions for tonight? Who is playing encore?
  4. Ok, this thread seems to have overtaken the one I started earlier, but what the hell...I'll play along. Just set up twitter account (NEVER thought I'd say those words) to update the show/weather tonight from the stadium. Nice having updates from others, so time to chip in my buck-o-five, because freedom isn't free. http://twitter.com/USMKLAVIER
  5. Show-day bump. Also, check this... On phantom's calendar it says that HNC are playing encore. But, today regiment says on facebook: Besides another big show today in Hattiesburg, MS, we will be joined by a group of Regiment alumni percussionist who will be a part of the encore performance tonight on 1812. 6. Just watched Phantom '89. Such a small hornline. What a sound. ####
  7. I'm curious, because I don't go to many shows.... How does our stadium at USM stack up? I don't know how the artificial turf is for marching, but the stands are so steep that many rows back you feel like you're sitting on top of the field. Only been to one show there, but felt like it was decent for seeing drill and for the sound. Any thoughts?
  8. Hah, I guess something stronger than just booze is necessary. I'll give it a shot! ha. (Kidding.)
  9. Gosh, is it sad that whenever I see that .025, I can only think one thing.... Some memories are just made to stick.
  10. SAH-WEET. Now Reuben McDowell AND Mike Bass have a corp staying with them. Now we only have to hope the forecast is DEAD WRONG.
  11. I am SOOOOO happy to see Watson's name on this topic. Thank you, Tom. God, I wanted you to win so badly.
  12. Certainly, I think Alessi has a point, and I, as a trombonist love my Edwards. (Even though I am doctoral student in piano.) NOW, back it up. Name me a majority of top trombonists that play the same make! (P.S. "Custom built" does not equal picking parts of a horn. We all did that in high school and college.) Come on, man. A Shires is a Shires. A Bach is a Bach. I could pick the color of the paint on my Steinway, but it's still a #### Steinway.
  13. I agree with rosski47...saying that all top players of a particular instrument play the same make?... I just don't buy that. Certainly many trombonists play Shires. Great horns. Alessi plays Edwards, I believe? And Chicago Symphony Orchestra (including Friedman) play Strads? And isn't Lindberg playing a Conn model he helped design? I'm not saying these three are the BEST, but certainly they are three OF the best.... Hmmmmm.....
  14. Getting close... You know where the 'coats are staying/rehearsing?
  15. Ha, yeah I saw that on TV. Maybe he'll show up holding hands with the Vikings coach?
  16. Bigger line-up than last year...sweet. Wednesday, July 22nd; Southern Miss Bluecoats - Canton, OH Holy Name Cadets - Allentown, PA Blue Devils - Concord, CA Phantom Regiment - Rockford, IL Boston Crusaders - Boston, MA Glassmen - Toledo, OH Crossmen - San Antonio, TX The Academy - Tempe, AZ Pioneer - Milwaukee, WI Mandarins - Sacramento, CA Cascades - Seattle, WA Encore: HNC Let's hope for good crowd, shows, and NO RAIN
  17. I have to say, I read the first few pages of this, and am very sad to see no recent posts by "cuban." That stuff is hilarious, especially because I'm trying to figure out of the guy ever marched. For the record, I NEVER marched, but I at least relegate myself to stating what I claim as opinions only, and even those aren't so brashly negative. Whenever someone informs me that a piece is easy, my first response is to politely ask them to play it for me; not just when it's directed at me...when it's said about anyone. I enjoy watching these shows immensely, and have for a long time. I respect the activity, and posts like those afore-mentioned really put a dent in that; kudos to those who put the poster in his place. Can't wait to see and ENJOY at least something about all the corps next week.
  18. DCP talent show? Piano allowed in I&E, or does it have to be synth?
  19. Sorry in advance for getting in late, but has anyone seen something about getting updates from the show? Thanks!
  20. You are right. The Rite of Spring IS a classic. So is Appalachian Spring, which is in the SCV show this year. Not sure how one can confuse Copland with a Stravinsky "Ballets Russes" composition.
