  1. I'm just going off accounts from someone at the show tonight that the Colts actually had a good show tonight. If that's not accurate then I'd agree with you.

I promise you when I marched, we expected the score to drop when we had our "best" runs--yet when we thought it was "bad" our score jumped. After being sadden by Spirit's placement and score at San Antonio i've refocused my observations and am hoping that these corps are having a great time touring. Trying to figure out scores can really get you down, so don't dwell on it too much.

  2. No, from what I'm told they had a good show tonight. They beat the Troopers Visually tonight which they haven't been doing. They got killed in Music, a caption they have done well in. GE they have been beating Troopers consistantly and today they loose to them. They didn't deserve to drop a point in a half tonight from the last time out. I hate to say this but it seems as they are not being scored based on their performance when the Troopers are at the same show and it's a shame too.

    ?

on another note Spirit got last in visual performance....I don't agree with that but I can't say it aint so. I'm sure if these corps had an off night they'll pull it together when the time is right =)

  3. Sure they did... if they were better than the corps that went on before them.

Most times going on later is better, but sometimes it can mean a score drop too if a corps that is better goes on early.

Right! I agree. I thought you were saying that the reason Madison's score dropped was because the judges were being conservative with Colts score and so they had to do the same with the Scouts in order to save room. My question is who were they saving room for?

  4. They went on after corps that have been beating them that's how.

Troopers and Colts went on before them and the judges scored them conservatively because they did want to "run out of room" later in the event. Madison's score drop is a product of that. Troop went on really early tonight (3rd or 4th I think) and there is no way they were going to pop them a big number with so many corps left to compete. Also, I am willing to bet that there were a lot of first read judges here for a lot of these corps and that usually results in conservative scoring too.

I think Madison had the advantage by going on after the break. The Troopers may have had the conservative score tonight because they went first out of the grouping. The Colts couldn't have been scored too conservatively because Spirit went on right before them and the judges gave them an okay number.

  5. My favorites:

1983- Cadets, end of "Rocky Point Holiday" opener. Amazing!

1983- Spirit, end of "We Are the Reason" closer. Sends shivers....

1987- Vanguard, end of both "Russian Christmas Music" opener and "Great Gate of Kiev" closer. Wow!

Check all these out on the Fan Network!

wow...I just had the thought of 1983 Spirit "We Are the Reason" and then I saw your post! If I had to send a segment of a show to battle with the best of other corps, I think it would be "We Are the Reason"!

  6. I love Scott's stuff. Easy to sound good when the page looks like this

    FFF ....(rest)..... F....(rest)......FF ..........MF.........FFF (rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(rest)(r

    est)(rest)(rest)FFF ....(rest)..... FFFFFF end

Not his fault. It's the music they chose, but that is how he writes :D

go ahead and lower the bar for Madison why dontcha....that's the only reason you're being hateful.

  7. That would suggest some sort of predisposition or bias on the part of judges, which I was told emphatically by all who responded in that thread that I was dead wrong and that no judging bias exists in DCI. Just ask Lance. He'll tell you that's absolutely crazy!

I don't think that all the judges collectively have a desire to place corps A over corps B, but its the individual judging (like a 2pts swing in a caption for B compared to a 2pts swing in the opposite direction for A which would allow corps A to beat corps B). After that judge has consistently given out that lowered caption score for corps B, then it because the norm that justifies every other judge to also score that caption lower.

How can GE scores change drastically from night to night, if the judges are judging by the requirements of the back of the sheets (rather trying to redesign shows to their personal taste) then even though there is a different judge judging a subcation there would not be those types of inconsistencies. To the judges credit though, corps that don't leave room for doubt will do better--so, again its up to the corps members and STAFF .

  8. I thought "MagicBob" settled that "easy" nonsense the other day. Please go back and read his comments and you'll understand that just because a corps makes very difficult things look easy, doesn't mean they are! BD is ahead not because they're clean, but because they are performing a great show at another level altogether. When you see them "live" you'll get it!

I wish the lower tiered corps could pass off easy as "we're just that good, that's why it looks easy"! I'm not saying BD's show is easy either, but I am a little envious. BD has earned the benefit of the doubt.

  9. Which ones?

And where do you get that impression from?

That is true. What is debatable, however, is whether there is still adequate fan support in the face of the attendance U-turn of the past five years....or what effect electronics will have on that.

It seems that you want the anti-electronic's crowd concensus to be taken at face value, but you want him to prove which corps had higher numbers of auditionees? Where is your proof that there wasn't higher turn out at some corps?

His claim that regionals and finals are doing better(whether due to electronics or not) attendance wise equals an impression to you? Again, where is your proof that what he stated is otherwise? If you know differently please speak up.

If I understand you correctly, you're claiming(or assuming) that dci is losing more fans than they are gaining because of the electronics? IF that is the case, all the campaigning against dci for using electronics must be a huge factor. So, at the end of the day, it wasn't the electronics that drove fans away from dci--it was yall.
