  1. I never had the opportunity of meeting George but just being a part of the same organization he gave his life to (The Reading Buccaneers) one can tell the impact he had on people. Singing the same corps song he sang over 30 years ago is a huge honor. I have the distinct pleasure of attending his Drum Major Academy in a few days and although he will not be there, I'm sure he will be there in spirit. I also have the opportunity to learn from one of his students which in turn gives me an insight of the affect he had on people. My only wish is to perform with a quarter of the pride and emotion he performed with on the podium.

  2. Obviously 7 snares is going to be easier to clean than 9, but losing your center snare is never easy. They always help the line out alot not just playing but mentally to especially if she was really close to the rest of the drumline. It must have been hard for her to decide to step down, I can't even imagine. Hopefully this injury doesn't stay with her for awhile.

  3. I am not a drum corp instructor or anything or a band director but these are a few things that visual techs have done during basics.

Break down each step, for example just do one step and have them stay there, this enforces the idea and do that a couple of times. Then move to doing two or three steps. I know that has helped me out to becoming a better marcher. I second the point that some people just can't get it, but another idea is doing some one on one work with people who are having trouble with it and maybe having a veteran or their section leader come and help and give advice. It might help to hear it from someone who went through the same thing. Maybe also get a special volunteer like someone who has marched drum corps or like a director of a very good college band. I remember in band camp our band director brought in the band director from West Chester University, and he helped us out alot, and gave us really great tips some of us never heard before.

    Hope this helps!

  4. This didn't really get me mad or anything but like it kind of drove me nuts. A group of kids were obviously at their first drum corp show and they were like the last band was better, i like this band and im sitting their going "corp" very quietly under my breath  again didn't really get me mad just was one of those things that drives you nuts

  5. I have been listening to videos of mostly the top 6 corps drumline's from 09 and in my opinion I think it was one of the worst years for drum books. The Blue Devils kind of had a boring book, and so did Cavaliers. In my opinion crown and bluecoats had the best books in 09. Cadets kind of had a boring book and SCV well they couldnt do much because of their show. It might be the show the corp was doing and the music and not really allowing for a amazing book but I still think it could be more non-exercise like (BD). What are everyone's thoughts on this?

  6. You all have very good points. I get upset when people do but that just because I have seen alot of people on youtube and marching members of corps get mad when drum corps is called a band so i thought it was wrong for them to be called bands so I don't call them bands because i have seen that people get upset when u call them bands

  7. OK, I guess this stuff started in WGI, and I don't have a problem with that. What bothers me is that everyone is doing it, and they're all doing the same things. Squat, stand, turn right, center, turn left. rock back and forth on each leg...face it, there's not much more to it than that.

Is this part of the "vocabulary" for visual now? If so, I'm over it. It's repetitive, and does nothing to enhance anybody's show if they're all doing the same thing.

Also, the drum lines that finish a lick, accent the release with a drop-hand duble-stop, then strut? What are you strutting about? You're supposed to play it clean. If you play it dirty, are you going to slink off and hide?

Please, I don't need an "in your face". I need you to act like you're supposed to be good. You don't see Yoyo Ma strutting around after he nails a cello solo.

    Garry in Vegas

i agree with you completely. I don't mind those moves during drum breaks but like u said theres not much u can do besides what u stated.

  8. Oh man, 3rd would not be bad for Crown at all.

And for Bluecoats to get above 6th, who do you expect them to beat? I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, I mean really... who do YOU think they'll overcome to get into the top 5?

They MIGHT be able to pull ahead of SCV, I agree on what bradrick said about it. I think it all depends on the GE of the shows. I am not saying Bluecoats will pass SCV..... they both have amazing shows but Bluecoats might have a chance to pull ahead of SCV.

  9. BD will win, Crown will be third at best, SCV has a shot at 4th, Bluecoats will be 6th, BK could take 9th, Glassmen will be 11th, and hopefully Troopers will be 12th. and this just in, Spirit better be careful or Jersey Surf might just take 17th from them. also, I wouldn't be surprised if Cascades finally get out of the last spot and take Pioneer.

I dont think Crown will do that bad like your saying and the Bluecoats I dont think will be 6th.... they have an amazing show this year!

  10. I love it...but they need to be in a visual rehearsal! ....scrub that dirt out scrub that dirt out!!

Yea I love Crown but at Allentown i did see some dirty spots in the show...... but I am thinking if we are able to see it, the staff sees that and will work on that alot. I was at the Bluecoats practice Friday before they performed in Allentown, and they spent 3 hours running parts of the show that were the worse parts and kept running that over and over again so as long as Crown works their ##### off on the visual part of the show they could be challenging for first place

  11. I love Crown's show this year. I really do think it is an amazing production. BUT, I just really don't see them winning unless they have cleaned up A LOT from Atlanta. They were noticeably dirtier than everyone else in the top 5 (visually speaking). But then again, it isn't me judging Saturday night....

They have cleaned alot. They were like 2 points away from BD in Atlanta and now they are less a point away from them so i figure they cleaned alot. And also they added stuff for Allentown so once that is clean I think they will be challenging for first.

  12. Blue Devils all around are very good, like every year, but their show isn't my favorite. It's not that it isn't clean, there's just no excitement to it, or anything that will make you go " holy *)$Y*$#^".

To be honest early on I thought cavies were in a big hole. Their show wasn't anything like I'd hope and I was starting to worry. They pulled a complete 180 and I really enjoy their show now. While their drill is very good when compared to other top tier corps, I just don't think it's up to Cavalier standards. If the Cavies want to win, they need to do some last minute changes to help their GE and kick it up a notch musically. All within their reach, no doubt.

I totally agree I like BD but i dont like their show this year at all. I had a couple holy *(^())$&*%^ moments in the Cadets show (no pun intended) and in Crown's show! I thought both their shows were better than the Blue Devils show
