I wish I could be at finals to see Crown. What a weird life this is. The little corps that placed 33rd in 1990 with 61 members is presently contending for the DCI championship with the corps that arguably defines modern drum corps excellence. Contending, with the help of people who are also dear to me, in a confluence of behind the scenes management (Kev Smith) and front line instruction (Matt Harloff, Donnie VanDoren)...just amazing.
Thank you Crown, thank you Star for everything!
Agreed! Very well said!

I don't like the crassness of the trumpet section. In fact, the entire upper brass sounds very crass. Plus, where are the tubas? All I hear is synth bass, which tells me they don't think the tubas can carry the low end.
Ouch.. haha

How was crown's screaming trumpet?
They changed that part. It's the majority (if not the whole) trumpet line now. Epic chords.

Still don't like the show

ANOTHER STANDING ####### OVATION BEFORE THE END OF THE SHOW!!!!
Thank God!!

Excellent drill move! Large horn block splits in two, rotates in opposite directions, and remains STRAIGHT throughout the move, including halfway when the lines match up again.
Crown is definitely on fire!
Yayyyy!
-
Tenor solo ROCKED! Crowd was very impressed.
That whole part with the percussion is amazing. Go Joe!!!
-
Exactly, To think if Crown doesnt "win" and comes in second place, that is a success......not a failure or disappoinment at all, I mean.....Carolina Crown, second place.....Think 2002 folks and look where they are now.
Amazing and fun to be a witness of their rise.

Their visual score is where they are suffering, is it because they don't have any folding chairs to act as a personal hash mark for them? Maybe they should one up BD and put cots on the field!!
Nooo! I like them for doing well and NOT having them! They have always suffered a little visually because they'd rather focus on the music, which is more important to me..

Promise of Living - What a beautiful arrangement.
This is a show where I don't care about the theme, it's just a great show to watch/listen to as it is.
Man I wish I were thereee....

Next on the field is Carolina Crown from Fort Mill, South Carolina. Their 2009 program is entitled "The Grass is Always Greener..." and consists of:
The Promise of Living (from Tender Land) by Copland, Aaron
Church Windows by Respighi, Ottorino
Puck (from Il Sogno) by Costello, Elvis
Somewhere Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz by Harburg, E.Y.; Arlen, Harold
Somewhere from West Side Story by Bernstein, Leonard
Hybrid by Beddis, Lee
Slalum by Pann, Carter
Sansemaya by Revueltas, Silvestre
The Promise of Living (from Tender Land) by Copland, Aaron
Go Crown!!!

I came back to this forum late...when did people cry??
During the Vanguard show, people started crying during the company front because it was so emotional. Gotta love it.

STANDING ####### OVATION BEFORE THE END OF THE SHOW!!!!
Yes, but did people cry? No.

SCV

Ur fav show...
Pfff.. it's not forged, silly. Let's wait for the results, shall we?
-
Crowd is so into this show, they're clapping almost constantly. Pit now doing their Smooth Jazz Cool interlude.
Hmmm... I'm going to wait for your comments on Crown before I get extremely worried. Right now, I'm just a little worried
-
SCV
Totally
Fourthed
U
LOL!

Good God, that closing drill for the opener! First time I've truly seen it and it's AMAZING!!!
Doesn't it kind of remind you of fireworks? How they just keep going and get bigger and bigger until the company front. I love it!
-
Kevin - thinking ahead - could you try to get a picture of the crown in the drill when CC is on? They cheated us out of it in the theater. Thanks for being here - I enjoy your play by play at DCA too!
Indeed! I think that was the only part of Crown's show that the camera guys screwed up on. I'd love to have a picture of it.

<~~~~~wondering how the pretzels are
Hah! Oh man.. that sounds really good right now.
Great, now I'm hungry. Thanks
-
Before they yell out "No!", somebody needs to yell out "Are we gonna win tonight?"
hahaha--*cough* Ahem.
-
Oh, sweet JESUS, that was loud, even up here!
Crowd went totally bonkers. Wish I could have seen them standing up. First time people up in the box have clapped during a show.
Hahaha! Yep, they get that every time... God, I wish I were there.
-
OMG, we all cried in Allentown and looked left and right at each ohter, it was so emotional...Love when shows can speak to me like that. No words or microphones needed.
Thats creativity
Geoffrey
Exactly!
-
That would probably get me kicked out of the press box. I'll just think it loudly.
lol...

This is just what drum corps needed this year, phat company front with classic rip your face off SCV. This is my fav. show this year.
Definitely one of my favorites, too. I wish I could be there tonight; they almost made me cry with that company front when they played in Stockton. Come on, SCV!
