  3. Great review, thank you! :) And FYI about Crown, they (and I) are VERY VERY proud of this years corps!!! Crown has never finished above 10th and has never scored above an 88.XX ever, and this year they blew both of those corps records away!! Of course it would have been great to hold onto 6th at finals, but 7th is just as awesome, judging from the fact that 2 years ago Crown was 16th, and that they were overtaken by a very good Blooo team i might add. Either way, going from 16th 2 years ago back to 10th last year and 7th this year, I dont think the staff and kids at Crown could be any more proud or excited!!! b**bs GO CROWN!!

    I’m sure Crown would have loved to hold on to 6th, but hopefully they are very proud of what they accomplished this year.  There were parts of the opening Opera pieces that I could swear it almost sounded like Phantom Regiment was on the field – they sounded that good.

  4. Interesting review, to say the least :P

    ....Oh well, I'm just sorry they didn't have any members that majored in adult entertainment.....

    :blink::huh::blink: :sshh:

    Don't know who you spoke with, but my son plays mellaphone is one of the vocalists for Crown. He is in High School. None of the singers are vocal majors.

    I'll add my two rants worth concerning the singing. Instrumentalists and vocalists have a longer history of making music together than does instrumentation separately. The singing is less than 30 seconds of the total show, is done tastefully and adds variety and contrast to a great show. All but one of Crown's pieces come from vocal/instrumental combination. Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Pucinni's opera "La Boheme" and the beat generation music was almost all vocal with instrumental accompaniment. In order to hold true to the music, the arrangements should by all means include singing and poetry. If Crown's show was predominately vocal or narrated to the nth degree, then I would agree that it was too much. As it is, it stays true to the overall theme of Bohemians. They always went against the grain even as this show apparently has infuriated the purists of Drum and Bugle Corps.  I find the vocals and brief poetry a rewarding change of pace with the best instrumental accompaniment I have heard.  Of course, I was a vocal major. Go Crown!

    I didnt know that! When you put it that way, it does seem like singing and poetry should be part of the show, and I for one am glad they have the vocals in it. :)

  5. Actually I forget if I added this to the review but the APD of crown I downloaded has more sinign than the show does now. They got rid of the sinigng that was going on during the loud horn playing. I'd say they sing for about 30 to 45 seconds. Then during the drum solo there is some spoken stuff that is sparatic.

    Mark

    Hey well maybe theyve been listening to whatever criticism they have been getting and are starting to cut back on the singing stuff....
