  1. I really like what a previous post said, Its all depends on how good you are and how good everyone else is. I think this year is going to be a great year in general. Will there be suprises? Oh definately, no doubt. Some will be expected, and some will come out of nowhere.... My response to the Phantom Regiment dropping, i think its possible but it really goes to how much did the first place in percussion carry them last year... I think they will have an impacting show none the less.... I am excited for ALL corps...

  2. Sigh...

More ridiculous semantical arguments that, in the end, mean nothing. Just say you're feeling slighted because you favorite corps is not included (because they have been out of the upper echelon competitively for the last several years). Stop dancing around that argument and be honest.

Also, as I've pointed out on here before, almost every corps is a DCI Champion: including Blue Stars and Crown.

I see your opinion, and i respect it. Let me ask you to respect mine. I do not under-rate the talent or programs at Carolina Crown, BlueStars, and Bluecoats. They ALL have great contributions to the activity and present very entertianing shows. With that being said, Many people can complain about the name of it, but its not going to change. I know that you know that. so lets just leave it at that, shall we?

    Thanks.

When i say May you never walk alone, i truely mean it. I dont intead this comment to be a backlash or anytime of argumentive form. just simply acknowledging your response.

Take care, and get excited the days til tour are winding down!

    MYNWA

  3. I dont know why everyone is predicting Teal to place so low. i believe that the program has undergone a major change since last year. and im not just saying this because i'm marching

These are just predictions dont be discouraged. One of the best thing about being in this activity is surpassing peoples expectation.... you guys will do good, just stay focus on the task at hand and enjoy yourself. See you in the lot andon the field.

  4. Hey there. I took a crack at this during the season, and I guess I can type it up again if you'd like.

To understand this program, we must first look into the ending of last year's. At the end of "The Grass is Always Greener", we see the Peter Pan character running into the tunnel, away from Neverland, and leaving Tinkerbell alone, which we can see in the change of colors from green to brown, as her sorrow grows over time.

What I got out of their program was that the entire story is based on the concept of second chances at finding love. If you watch the videos, during the pre-show, you can see the main female guard lead dancing with both male leads, and when the first male lead smacks here, I believe that is supposed to represent the lover's quarrel of him finding out about her and the other lead. The Katchicurian(sp?) I believe is meant to represent the lover's quarrels, with eventually we can only assume to be the end of their relationship. The music then transitions into Marquez's Danzon No.2, where the girl tries to find another partner, as evidenced by her dancing with many different people, even the drum major at one point. The next piece is Elgar's Nimrod, where we see the female lead finding a possible new partner, and the blossoming of their new love is signified by the slow, romantic music. After this, it goes back into Mahler's Symphony No.2, and the original ending right before the rewind is our female lead mistakenly returning to her original paramour, and is almost beaten for it. After the rewind, she runs back in the other direction, and arrives at the other lead. Now, this is where the music from last year's show is brought back in, as she is rewarded for making the right decision in love, so she thinks, until Peter Pan returns to re-claim his lost love, and the pair run off together into bliss.

Does that help at all? I know it's a bit academic, but it took a bunch of viewings before it started to sink in for me too.

Even reading this i am still confused..... i just liked music

  5. if i didnt know what DCI was, i wouldnt pay a decent amount of money to go watch something called "tour of the top 8 from last season" or "top 8 of 2010". "tour of champions" has a better appeal to people not in the know.

i do like how i'll be able to see some corps "live" this summer that i might have otherwise missed if i dont go to finals...

Yeah, and that does make sense.... but another thing i wish that it would be a an event where its a current top 8 adds more to the fuel of competition in comparison to the other corps feeling they are not good enough. As you said in your previous post, earn it. Lets fight(figuratively) for it and see how that goes.

  6. Would you be satisfied if they renamed it? Maybe to "Tour of Champions from the last TWO DECADES."

Seriously get over the TOC already and earn your way in....

Sounds pretty harsh...there sir( or maam).

Let me clarify, i dont oppose the TOC, just the name of it. Also it may have been 22 and 35 years ago, but they were still champions none the less, you cant deny Stars championship( in the past 2 decades)

As for earning it. You got it. See ya on the feild this summer. Take Care, and MYNWA.

  7. This will be my third summer marching, and i cant help but feel that the competiton side of things often depicts the activity. I marched Boston in 2009 and Madison in 2010 and will be marching again this year. I want to try a social experiment, but id like input from you DCPers.... I wanna create a "group" (ideally current marchers, who are DCPers) and have an interaction with each other to wear you dont just see the performance of a corps but you get to know the members of the corps as well. I am really having hard time wording this but basically I wanna try to befriend atleast ONE member of every corps, and get to know what being apart of that corps means to them... and in return i am sure it would give myself and others a different perspective in the activity, because we all give up something to march, and its great to hear what other people give up to march.....

Shoot me your opinions and if you have ideas that works.

  8. Yesterday, (Sunday, April 3, 4:40 PM) at the Indianapolis White Castle at 38th and Keystone, two diners noticed my T-shirt and asked "Is that a drum corps T-shirt?"

"Um, yes it is," I stammered. I was wearing one of those orange '48' Cavalier T-shirts.

"We're with the Blue Stars," one of them said.

The two guys had just finished weekend camp at the nearby fairgrounds, and were dining before heading back to Cincinnati. Both are looking forward to aging out this summer. One has been with the Blue Stars for several years, and is a lead trumpet. He persuaded his friend to join the tour.

We traded a few short stories -- like when the Blue Stars souvie truck once used dozens of United States Post Office mail buckets on their truck to store shirts in. (The corps has since upgraded to legal storage tubs.)

We talked about their 2008 La Tour bike show, the 2009 Working show, the 2010 Houdini show. They are both looking forward to a great season. I wished them well.

I headed outside, and grabbed the 4:56 southbound Indygo bus.

OK, so it was just an ordinary run-in, but I get a huge thrill when running into drum corps people out of context.

Imagine, musicians eating a meal! Almost Twitter-worthy.

If you catch the 8 or the 16 buses thurs-mon there is a chance you would see a madison scout(me) on his way to and from work :)

  9. Most different: Xmen. I think they will look and sound entirely different this season.

Least different: Madison. Part Dos of "the scouts are back" tour.

I would say most different would be Scouts, just because i know the program. ( and its not a Part dos Scouts are back, and just continueing what we done last year and surpassing expectations for this year once again....just to prove that it wasnt a fluke, similar to CC 05-09.

And when i say different, i mean a different feel of the tunes.... same concept of peforming for t he fans, but more in depth, but i do see what you are saying in similar..... good call.

Least different, Crown? I only say this because 09 and 10 were similar, but i dont know. Perhaps Pioneer as in something not with celtic music? lol

  10. I agree with the above post........There r no Cinderella stories in DCI. there is no parody in DCI. Once i seen that DCI was going on ESPN I knew the ratings we be going downwards year after year. Why? because people new to the activity would get tired of seeing the same Corps in the top spots over and over and over again. Many many people do not watch college basketball, however millions fill out their brackets trying to pick the upsets. Which small team will knock off one of the big schools. Most would agree VCU and Butler to a degree, wore Cinderella's slipper this year. DCI does need a Cinderella story. I will not hold my breath that it will happen any time soon....I forget what year it was but not to long ago Crown beat the Cadets for the first time.....many made a big deal out of it....this activity needs more of that. the Tops Corps r so entrenched that unfortunately we more then likely will see less and less of this happening if the G8 keep getting their way IMHO.

I would almost bet on a g8 getting beat by a certian rising Non-G8 corps....

  11. So... Whats the closer?

Wait for an announcement, or..... come to april camp :)

I know, its a tease. Im sure its worth coming to camp to get that preseason sneek peak.

Lastly, all i will say is this: Get Excited, and keep an eye on the scouts for the next few months.
