  1. Hello, all!

    I think it's time to lighten up and "bond" a little bit. This started on the G7 thread, and I think it can be a welcome, stand alone discussion. My offering there was this:

    _____

    Michael,

    My first car was a green, four door '61 Rambler. It was 8 years old and cost me $125. Gee, how I loved that push-button transmission! It took me to drum corps practice, not in style, but I still got there! As a bit of a respite, Michael, what was your first car? I'll guess a '49 DeSoto.

    Anyone else care to reveal their own first car experience?

    _____

    Let's hear from you, too!

    My first car was also a Rambler, a 1963 2 door station wagon with those same push buttons. I paid $17 for it and then had to put new brakes and a rear transmission seal. I wouldn't wish that car on anyone, but it got me to rehearsal, school and lots of other places. This would have been about 1971.

  2. <brag warning>

    And the tuba winner not only had a 3 point spread over the runner up, he had the highest score of any brass or woodwind player. :-)

    And for Mav's benefit, he is the son of a Royal Cavalier alumni. ;-)

    <brag off>

  3. *sigh* we had no such recognition when I marched....feel slightly cheated....

    Me neither. And when I came home from the 76 tour, went almost straight to boot camp, so no end of year tour banquet, home coming show or anything.

    Of course, that is what my son is going to do this year. Marine Corps boot camp end of August. :-)

  6. Not exactly Drum Corps housing, but Royal Cavaliers Youth Band were on our way to Casper to perform with the Troopers in 1971 and we had to stop at a KOA campground somewhere I think in Montana. We arrived after dark and and just laid out on the ground. We were coming from the Seattle Seafair parade and shows. Obviously we were camping under the stars. Middle of the night there came some screams from the girls area. The rumor was they has seen some bears near where they were sleeping. Next morning we woke up to find we were next to a pasture and there were cattle grazing nearby.

    Well it was funny as hell at the time. :-)
