Is there anyway I could view or purchase a recording Big Loud and Live Quarterfinals from this past season?
(yes I know there are finals dvd's, I'll be getting one too)

This is semi difficult considering I was involved in a corps this summer but...
I loved performing in the Blue Stars
I loved the music from Crown's show
Bluecoats were quite impressive this year

Congrats on a great season.... I hope you still have a few more years to march! How far back have you researched the history of drum corps?
not terribly far back, I've seen and heard corps from a lot of different times, but I still have a lot to find out
I generally have heard and seen shows from a few different eras, mainly from the ones I liked
'86-'91
'99-'03
'06-'10
The earliest show being Star, the latest being well, us and other corps

I became a fan after being exposed to DCI my freshman year of high school (2006),
where I saw MACHINE by the Cavaliers, and Faust by Phantom Regiment, I thought it was the coolest thing ever and only dreamed of being in a drum corpsWell, dream come true

After seeing Star of Indiana Alumni, it reminded me of my marching band (in which I did not march but my brother did) and how much they cared, the crowd was more full, they cheered louder, the announcer was more enthusiastic
the music is Belshazzar's Feast (also why star reminded me of this)
If you care to watch it, it's actually (in my mind) quite good for a marching band
after watching that, I got to thinking... wow... people cared soooo much more back then nowadays, I still love what I do, I still thought my first year of drum corps was absolutely amazing but I kind of wish crowds were like they used to be...
anyone else think the same thing?

I'm impressed how far this topic has gotten haha but I dealt with the issue the way everyone else did, you just don't really tend to care about some things on tour privacy being one of them
rookie year was amazing - that is all

Well, I'm heading out to move ins tomorrow for the first time as a "rookie" and I'm sure I'm in for the ride of my life.
And I wish the best of luck to ALL corps this season including both World Class and Open Class Corps.

Blue Stars are done, have their drill mastered, and members have been told to report to the parking lot of the first show for tour.

We always let corps sleep in 1 of 4 of our High Schools' Gyms and use our facilities here from what I understand from my director
it's a big deal here with my band director being a huge corps fan and both of his sons being former phantom regiment members (one being the other director at our school and the other our drill righter and visual head)
the amount of respect here is really amazing and cool in many ways, it influenced me to audition for corps (along with a close friend of mine who is a recent member of a world class corps)

Hi Alumni, a question or two from a drum corps newbie, I just got the drill charts for this season and I can honestly say that I'm a bit scared, excited and anxious and eager all at the same time
So
How was the drill/visual experience for you your very first year of drum corps?
Was it a scary experience?
Any tips (besides getting into shape and practicing the marching style)?

I think everyone's had that dream at some point.
well I don't think I've ever had any sort of dream like that - buuuuuuuuuut - I did have a dream a few months back about how I was in the blue devils performing at a show (marching a trumpet spot obviously) and for some reason I couldn't help but notice how badly I sucked at marching, and I looked down at my feet all while playing at the music at the same time and some how could play fine
weiiiiird dream honestly, don't remember all the details .... when I awoke that morning I realized how highly illogical it was in so many ways
Anyway, back on topic, I predict
1) Crown will win the championship this year
2) Move-ins is going to be killer for me as a newbie to drum corps
3) I'll finally understand the true meaning of INT
4) The acoustics will be better this year when they open up the roof :)
5) This will be the closest DCI placement in history as far as 1-12 goes
5) This summer is going to be awesome!

It does depend on the piece. But I think some of his peices can be great for drum corps. I can think of one corps thats doing philip glass this year. Isn't it Blue Stars?
