A very young corps will be the newest finalist.
A green corps will return to glory.
A consistently fantastic corps will win the whole song and dance.
A reflective corps will be forgotten and wiped from finals.
A show about death will return glory to a dark corps.
A Wyoming corps will struggle to keep their finalist status, but will succeed in the end.
A blue corps will no longer be overrated.
I like the part about blue corps

This video is my high school from a couple years ago, they've always been good but I'm judging this from a brass players standpoint
So, any comments as far as the percussionists go?
it's been awesome that we've been blessed with one of the best percussion techs (Craig Spangler) they've seldom lost at least in the upper midwest, iowa/south dakota/minnesota/nebraska region
Post some of your high school line if you have it :) or of the best ones you've seen

Pachabel.... darnit
007.... Darnnnit
1000 Airplanes on the roof.... foiled again
west side story?.... crud
A star wars show?
can't really think of any off the top of my head
-
I believe the blue stars are having (If not already mentioned):
24 Trumpets
16 Mello's
24 Bari's/Euph's
16 Contra's (Tuba's)
-
Huh?.... cavaliers were in the top 5 were they not....?
-
(Well I know the Stars use Kings, and Phantom uses Jupiter, that's what I know for sure)
What about Bach? It is merely a dream but they are really really nice horns as far as trumpets go... but that would mean you'd need to intermix brands (that my be an issue) if a corps had the money for a full set.... *whistles
-
none yet? :/

The fact that you performed it is probably the reason you don't hear things wrong. Trust me- I know I didn't hear many of the things others complained about back when I marched. When you know how something is supposed to sound, you hear it differently than someone who doesn't know, and only gets the end product. Take a deep breath, and take these predictions for what they are- people having fun and hyping their favorite corps. It's gonna be ok.
on a side note: here are my predictions:
1. Crown: finally put it together with a great show design, epic brass, good percussion and a fantastic guard.
2. Cadets: Drop even more voice, put on another great show, bringing back the quality we remember.
3. BD: bring back the BD we know and love, with a great brass book, solid visuals, but dropping the furniture.
4. SCV: A return to the top for the red and green team, with the the best show since Sheherezade
5. Cav's: Continue to rest on their laurels, but without the quality of the 2002-2006 era. Show design keeps them from going higher
6. Blue Stars: Surprise finish over the course of the last 2 weeks of the season; the presence of an army of props is used effectively, but still keeps them from going higher. Increasing improvement over the season in the percussion section helps, too.
7. Blue Coats: Good show, but they decide to take off their pants this year, which doesn't go over well with the audience.
8. Boston: continue their duel with the Blue Stars, but end up on the wrong side this season.
9. Phantom: Rebuilding year for the regiment- better show design, but still not up to the standards of 1989/2006.
10. Troopers: Continue their climb to stardom, with an incredible show.
11. Glassmen: Finally, a boost for the G-men. An inspired show, but not quite the confidence to pull it off. Next year is looking up, though.
12. Spirit: Strong showing, but the community sees their show as too 'marching band'; good execution, but the design holds them back.
13. Colts: Almost return to finals, but an unoriginal show keeps them from getting anywhere but 12th, despite solid execution.
Should be a great year on Saturday night!!!
I laughed so hard I cried

I previously posted this on the Blue Stars' forums and I thought heck why not get help from a few drum corps friends who might be curious about the same thing?
Well, I just realized that I've had this same movie wallpaper from The Dark Knight for .... well ages, since before the movie came out (almost a year? maybe more?) sigh..
Sooo... does anyone know of a place where I could get access to a Drum Corps Wallpaper for my desktop? (specifically a Blue Stars one, if not a DCI Wallpaper would work just fine)
(Are there others looking for the same thing perhaps as well???)
-
:P haha I'm pretty sure Frank is just looking for a solid lead player, there may be a vet not returning or something of the sort and that may have been the issue, as for the timpani player, well that's pit and I'm hornline so I don't know for sure
In any case, we've gotten 3 parts to Houdini so far and I love all 3, they have incredible potential, I can already see that they are going to rock when the music is perfected
as far as the visual standpoint goes... well let's say I can tell we are going to be whipped into shape by august
-
I can be safe to say that, without giving any information away that this show is going to rock :D the music is amazing
The camp went incredibly well and I'm going to have to start working out for sure (otherwise spring training is going to be killer) and keep up on that personal visual practice (AHHH!!!)
If you had an epic January camp experience, share it (whether it from your corps or a comment about the stars)

eeewwww Philip Glass. John Mackey FTW. I'm really excited for BLuecoats again.
-_- give it a chance dude, once you hear it, you might like it
-
1 Crown : keeps improving on the previous year
2 Cadets: will stick with last year's formula and beat some more of that dirt into submission
3 Cavies: will move up because I can't believe they're moving down
4 BD: will use more props and get bitten by them
5 SCV: delicious but still a bit too low calorie
6 Bluestars: break into the top 6
7 BK: continue to become more accessible
8 Bluecoats: will make sure their show explanation is not more complex than the show itself
9 Colts: off season changes pay off
10 Phantom: will disappoint again
11 Boston: ate the worm in that apple
12 Crossmen: find their way back to Saturday night
13 Madison: on their way back but not there yet
14 Glassmen: back to boring
15 Troopers: shine has worn off but still respectable
16 Academy: not worse but others around them getting better faster
17 Spirit: atlanta not so hot for spirit
18 Surf: brass takes a stride forward
19 Pioneer: have seen last place and aren't going back
20-22 Mandarins,Cascades,Pacific Crest: 3 way tie
23 Teal: brutal welcome to world class
someone put stars in the top 6
-
FAUST! Sorry Crown, I like you but people forget how epic this show was
-
Based on quality of sound, but wayyyyy too expensive?
Bach Stradivarius ^^
one can dream right?
-
Booya! Go Blue Stars!
-
yeah, I've struggled with this too from time to time, (whether it be at a corps camp, or during marching band) it does get hard to get used to at first, but I'm sure once those muscles build up it will get easier
-
See previous post, our girls had no idea and thought the sounds were just coming from the guys locker room since they were right next to eachother. Although the Madison guys didn't run out screaming they did book it out of the locker room pretty quickly
wow what a small world, Jordan I believe you are my best bud's cousin (Alex has told me about you being in pioneer)
-
Well I can confirm that the Blue Stars did have 300+ (at least) at the audition camp - yes I was there, the staff was telling us the numbers
AND I also got contracted a spot in the corps
-
Superb! balance, blend, intonation, coordinated breathing it's ALL there!
-
Incredible! The balance was very good, and is a lesson to all corps (starting with a good foundation from the bass to the soprano)
but I INSIST that ALL you guys take a look at this!!!!!!!!!!!! It is by far the best balance I've seen
-
I know part of Houdini is composed by Phillip Glass and arranged by Frank Sullivan (brass caption head)
-
..... how many times do I have to tell you
in the past 6 to 7 years.... the Band Bananas have been on the rise..... They have had great increase in abundance and have well known staff like.... Potassium and Vitamin C... etc.
