I just came from ensemble rehearsal. Everything up to the ballad is on the field. Honestly it feels like a 4th - 6th place kind of show at this point. Then again so did '15. As several posters have already mentioned, it really does feel like they're behind this year. There are plenty of enjoyable moments in the show though so it's not all bad news. I dunno. Just one guy's opinion. OAN: I just might have some "candy" I'd be willing to share with anyone who asks for it.

Against my dentist's orders, I would absolutely enjoy some candy. (just don't let him find out)  :innocent:

  2. Some great ideas in here. I have been listening to a lot of movie scores lately and I came across a lovely gem from Disney's Dinosaur (2000). It's been since The 2000 Cadets that Disney has been featured on the DCI field. I've put together an entire show with the Dinosaur score by James Newton Howard.

Check out the links (I have them starting at certain points).

Enjoy and envision this in competition!

  3. Just my thought's on what I'm most excited for.... I tried to include as many WC corps as I could.

The Academy "Left of Spring: Stravinsky Revisited"

Interesting theme, interesting music. Over the past few years the Academy has been one of my favorite entertaining corps. Definitely excited to see how this unfolds.

    Blue Devils "Cabaret Voltaire"

I am looking forward to see how they are going to fit in all their repetoir into an 11:30 min show. They have some good source material to work with.

    Blue Knights (show unknown)

I haven't heard a peep from these guys about 2012. Has anyone?! Really enjoyed the past few seasons. Very accessible in terms of show design and music. Good luck guys, on whatever you are playing :)

    Blue Stars "The Blue World"

Blue Stars are a dark horse. Putting out great shows the past 4-5 years or so. The music looks promising and I'm sure the drill will be as fast as ever. Looking fowrad to see these guys for sure!

    Bluecoats "UnMasqued"

Hoping that the 'Phantom of the Opera' piece is their show warm up, as I can't really see this on the field. The other selections, however, are right up their alley. Especially the music from 'La Reve' and 'Ka'.

    Boston Crusaders "The Titans"

Bold title. Bold music choices. I believe they can pull this show off. Looking forward to Pines of Rome. Has anyone else heard the teaser of the hornline playing a clip besides myself? It sounds gorgeous!

    The Cadets "12.25"

When first hearing the theme, I was optimistic. These guys can usually take anything and make it sound and look good. Always been a favorite of mine. Watched the live web casts of the music. They sound great. I'm looking forward to see this crazy fast drill I keep hearing about on blog posts from the memebers and staff. Should be an interesting show to say the least.

Carolina Crown "For the Common Good"

Fanfare will be the moment of the season. MARK MY WORDS. I haven't heard them, but if the brass line is anything like the past 5 years, it will be a golden moment. Also, looking to see and hear what they do with 'Dreams'(some crazy music there).

The Cavaliers "15 Minutes of Fame"

Lots of source material. Looking forward to see the new drill since Gaines has left.

    Colts "Boundaries"

It's about time a corps played the music from 'August Rush'. BEAUTIFUL music. Can't wait to hear that, plus looking to hear a good mixing of Rachmaninoff's 'No.2' and Carmen's'All By Myself'.

    Crossmen "Fragile"

Hot off their 2011 season (personally I thought should have been top 12), these guys look to have a solid book put together. They sound great already. I need me some Bones playing Methany!! Maybe this show should have a different title, "Songs for Planet Earth: Fragile". Just a suggestion ;)

    Glassmen "Glassworks"

Some have said this should have been the 50th anniversary show. To me, last years show was still a great show, solid overall corps. This year I am very excited to see what some new staff will bring to the table, specifically Poulan....and with the new Jupiter horns, looking to hear their new sound. I'm also interested in hearing the original piece by Poulan and Ferguson.

    Madison Scouts "Reframed"

Looking to hear how they are planning to mix 'Madison classics' with 'Pictures'. Intrigued to say the least.

    Phanton Regiment "Turnadot"

Trying to picture this opera on the field. Can't wait to hear the hornline, as usual. Will anyone die? (that is not a joke)

Santa Clara Vanguard "Music of the Starry Night"

Very much looking to see their take on 'The Planets'.

    Spirit of Atlanta "Sin City"

Not much about the actual source music has been made public as of yet. They had a big sound last year and I am looking forward to see them live so they can blow my face off! :)

  4. Is there a way we can keep this thread on topic please. I hate nothing more than wanting to read an update about the 2012 Crossmen and then step right into a Woodwinds [in DCI] discussion. I am pretty sure there is a thread for this specifically. No offense to anyone, I just want me some Crossmen news

  5. I didn't see any topics on this. Just a link to the live webcast today, if anyone is interested.

    From YEA.org website

    "Peek At The Cadets' "12.25"

Capping off the webcast will be a live performance of several minutes of The Cadets' 2012 repertoire,

including selections from the "12.25" program.

The live performance is always one of the most popular features of the Cadets spring webcast."

  6. Groovy stuff.

Listened to all the originals. Definitely has the potential for the true Crossmen feel. And I very much trust Chuck.

    I completely agree.

I listened to all the original works and boy, what a great selection this year. Chuck will work his magic as well as the entire staff and members. I have no doubt they will work hard to bring the total package to the field this year. I posted the original music at the end of my post for your convenience. (Not sure is these are the ACTUAL versions being arranged, but you get the idea) Go Bones.

    Michael Jackson - Earth Song

    Bobby McFerrin’s "Wailers"

    Anoushka Shankar’s "PD7"

Peter Gabriel - Here Comes The Flood

Pat Metheny - Finding and Believing

  7. 1997 was the first time Glassmen really caught my attention. Some great stuff on the field that year...Farandole was my favorite.

I did choose 1999 as my favorite Glassmen finals show. For some reason Glassmen and Kodaly just go together. I can't explain it really. The music, the percussion, the guard, the whole visual. Just amazing. What a great brass sound that year! I always thought that they should do another Kodaly show. That would surely bring the house down, IMO.
