  1. After being in Allentown.....

I think Phantom is a "lock" for 5th.............much better musical program than those below them..........huge brass sound......

I think Bluecoats will take 6th.............musical show is a downer, but they perform well across the board........

SCV....great drumline.....solid visual and guard........brass issues can't be overlooked any longer, and book is too dissonant, but they will probably hold onto 7th.....

it's the next grouping......8-9-10 - 11 where I do think you will see a battle..........

I actually think Blue Knights have the best overall package of this bunch, but they need to step up execution to have a shot to lead this grouping....

Madison is highly entertaining with a strong musical package and solid brass. Percussion has improved, so as ensemble, and visual package is a bit better than score

indicates......Boston has solid execution overall, strong guard and good visual package, but I think effect wanes in the 2nd half of their program arrangement-wise....

Blue Stars are strong performers and have a solid sound.......however, musical book is fragmented.................

I think these 4 will be very close, and we may see some changes here.....

  2. I was sitting in section Q too. People were really respectful toward BD's show (just didn't give them the love I think they deserved). Maybe it was YOUR ear I was screaming into when TheCadets were on the field?

With all due respect this subject has been beaten to death. the cadets and BD as well as other corps have to contend with inconsiderate fans. All corps deserve love and respect and a Standing O.

  3. Boston's home show to a big regional? Corps always do better at their home show, that's not some big conspiracy. SO maybe yesterday was the anomaly, not today?

Were you at both shows to compare apparently you werent so if your going to call anything an anomaly youshould hold off your critisim until you have something to compare performances.

  4. A few thoughts now that I'm home...

    1. It really was a coin toss between BD and Cadets. Cadets were better in all visual captions except guard (BD), and BD was better in all music captions.

    2. GET THE DANG BRASS JUDGE OFF THE FREAKIN' FIELD. The biggest joke in DCI for the last several years is giving the award for best brass line at field level. Devils were clearly better up top, and Crown, though really good, had some serious breakdowns the field judge simply didn't catch.

    3. SCV's guard really is that good.

    4. Despite Mike Del Corso's tweets to the contrary, BD got some great crowd reactions where I was (top of the lower bowl, center section, in the Cadets block). Crowd there loved BD, but it was a different kind of love...lots of oohs and aahs and wows as opposed to applause. Big standing O at the end from the lower bowl.

    5. Surf, Pacific Crest, and to a lesser extent Crossmen, were really underscored tonight. The bottom five corps have really been getting the short end of the stick from the judges despite vast improvement from those corps. It's a complete cop-out and needs to be addressed.

    6. The biggest surprises for me were Academy and Spirit. I loved both of those corps tonight. Honorable mention to Blue Knights.

    7. Cadets visual package might be my favorite every, for any corps. It's simply stunning (and it's not nearly as hard as people think). It's certainly the smartest Cadets design I've ever seen.

    8. Crown's show is just a ton of fun. It's not going to win, but who cares. New ending is great.

  5. Not that it really matters any in the whole scheme of things....I thought I might mention that when he was still quite young...he was part of Boston's snareline in 1990 (a awesome line at that along with Colin McNutt and Rudy Gowern) a time when I also marched Sop with BAC...

yes Liahona i know them well and i was the housing coordinator in 1990. I gave nick angelis his first ride to Crusader practice.and his sister Julie who is a amazing tympany player. Rudy is the battery caption head for crossmen and colin is the battery caption head for cadets.

  6. While the attendance was pretty good at the later shows, the 2 opening TOC shows in Texas were not well attended... not at the hoped for attendance numbers anyway. Plus, there are some rumblings heard about that the extra travel costs to go out early like this was a little more costly than had been projected by at least one current TOC Corps, and I've heard they will do some internal discussions in the offseason with their Board to determine what happens next.

why is it called tthe toc?
