Funny how Spirit of Atlanta isn't mentioned anywhere in his bio. He was only there, what, 7 years?

Apologies if this has already been posted earlier in the thread, but "On The Shoulders of Giants" by Peter Graham.
-
Well, that sucks for Spirit.

When I first heard that title, I immediately thought you wanted Phantom to do a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy show. Oh well...
Shame, because a Hitchhiker's show would be SO AWESOME. The movie soundtrack has some stuff that would translate to the field very well.

I want to see a drum corps play 4 great songs with no complicated theme at all.
Sounds boring.

If BD can march and play well in any capacity as you say, then why have they not done it in the past 8 years?
If you listen real close, you can hear a faint "whoosh" as all your credibility goes flying out the window.

I think that, with the new instruments allowed on the field, maybe more corps will try some Strauss, Mahler, Wagner...maybe we might finally see some Bruckner on the field?
Plus, could you imagine a show centered around Alpine Symphony? Practically writes itself.

The monarchist system in Carolina Crown will be overthrown and replaced with some other Carolina ______ system of government.
"On the field, from Ft. Mill, South Carolina...Carolina Oligarchy!"
-
Oh please people in the front ensemble don't march
So he stood drum corps for three years?

Dude, don't say anything negative tonight. If you do, everyone assumes you are classless and are putting other corps down. WTF, seriously...
The butthurt is strong with this one...

You clearly never marched.
You clearly don't look at signatures.

Yes, chalk it up to a misunderstanding of the scoring system. I assumed perfect meant perfect, stupid me.
Yup, stupid you.

So, if there were one more week left in the season, the Blue Devils kids really couldn't improve? Not just their score, but their own individual performance?
Of course they could improve...but so could the 2nd place corps. Then the 2nd place corps scores a 19.8, but BD is still however much better than them, so...20 out of 20.

I agree in theory. But by giving any corps a perfect score, you're basically saying that there is no room for improvement. I guess I've always felt (and been taught) that there is no such thing as perfection. But it's the attempt to get there that makes the hard work worth it, and so much fun.
That's not what it means at all. It just means that they scored 20 out of the possible 20 points that were available. There is no such thing as perfection in this activity.

Somebody's mad.

When a scoring system is based on rewarding achievement (as opposed to demerits for errors) there is no such thing as a perfect score. The numbers are simply a vehicle to get the rank and spread correct. Who cares if the winning score was a 99.65 or a 23.4. The corps were in the right order with the right spread. Who cares about the math that got them there.
This guy gets it! If only we could sticky this post to the top of the forum!

Congratulation Bluecoats. Congrats Blue Devils. Scoring is broken.

So Blue Devils B win Open Class, Bluecoats win World Class and BD wins Galaxy Class. I like it better that way.

More Sibelius! ...and by that, I mean something other than Finlandia. More Symphony No. 2...more En Saga...more Violin Concerto...plenty of good stuff out there!
