That's what I just posted... Boston WAS part of the TOC in 2012, because they came in 8th in 2011. They came in 7th in 2012, but the OTHER SEVEN corps decided to make it about only them. Hence, the "TOC" is now called "Music in Motion" and only includes last summer's 1-6th place corps + the 8th place corps, so NO BAC.

Two answers:
Boston did participate in the 2012 TOC, because that grouping of corps was determnined by the prior (2011) year's placement.
For 2013, DCI placement no longer qualifies corps to be in the TOC (now rebranded as "Music in Motion"). The G7 corps are organizing and hosting their own series, featuring only the seven corps they choose, in effect, disregarding BAC's 7th place finish in 2012.
Music in Motion participation is NOT decided by DCI...it is decided by Music in Motion.
It is a new world in drum corps for 2013.
I could've sworn they were part of the TOC stuff last year. They did place 8th in 2011 and I'm pretty sure the 2012 TOC included the top 8.

Glassmen had a very small hornline turnout.
I'm sure a pretty large amount of potential members were scared away by the financial issue. Do you know how the percussion turnout was?

Stu, you're missing the point entirely. Corps like Gmen, Teal etc don't want to join a "smaller" circuit they want to play with the BIG boys. And I don't blame them. The REAL problem is that to play in DCI the corps feel that have do the tour or at least the major parts of it from San Antonio on to Finals. THIS is the straw that breaks the camels back money wise. Unless you're one of the top 5 or 6 corps (and even that is shrinking) most corps do not have the finacial foundation to keep doing tours. DCI does not have to start smaller local arms or anything other than support local or regional competition until the Championships. BUT that would drop the number of the BIG shows where DCI makes most of it's money. Just look at how many corps HAD to fold due to lack of money that would allow them to go on tour and without going on tour they can't attract the members to march. DCI itself is not the problem as much as the current model of a corps needing to march 150 members and going on a extended tour and then come up with the funds to do it year after year. Yes a corps COULD only do a small part of tour or march a smaller corps but then they would suffer competition wise. It seems that BOA can have successful regional and local competitions and then have 90 bands show up for Nationals but DCI is close to not even having 30 something corps. But then again let's "pay no attention to man behind the curtain" which is lack of money and just blame the corps because they don't know how to raise the financial support. What's is going to take for things to change...having Cavaliers or Garfield fold and THEN admit DCI has a problem?

I've heard rumors of serious financial issues. Only rumors, but I'd like some kind of confirmation since I've been extremely excited to audition there. If they're not gona make it out this season I would be really bummed. Just want to know if I should start preparing for a different audition.

I really wish they'd announce the drum staff already. I heard a rumor about who it is but it sounds way too good to be true.

After seeing their performance at the park thing I think it's extremely unlikely that Phantom will drop to 9th. They sound better than they did at this time last season and I think they have a better show.

Who are these "Blue Coats" you speak of? Is this a new corps? If so, I want to add that it's highly unlikely that a brand new corps would reach 7th place their first year out. It also seems you've forgotten the Bluecoats. I know they haven't folded so ...

I'm sorry ... you left it out there for me to take it. You're not the first to get corrected on the fact that Bluecoats is one word and not two and I'm sure you won't be the last. :) I just wanted to have a little bit of fun with it.

No Teal? Or did they fall prey to that Florida Curse
I think the Florida curse will get them. However if it doesn't, based on what I've seen and heard, I would put them above either Pioneer or maybe Cascades.

I also think Tampa Bay Thunder will surprise a lot of folks for the second year in a row. I suspect they will come to Annapolis much cleaner than they were last year. They have the design and talent, so once they figure out how to clean on a DCA schedule, they will move up quickly.
This. People can count on Thunder being light years better this season in comparison to last season. Actually theres already no comparison to last season. Just expect a major step up.

Drum Corps International is proud to present!! Teal? Doesn't sound right to me. They should come up with an entirely new name if there are plans to bring the corps back.
