I remember years like 95 where it was iffy if bk were going to make it or not
You are absolutely right. It used to be that there was a big gap between 12 and 13, and all you had to do was be "good enough" to make it in (or hold your spot).
But now we have about 6-7 corps that will be fighting for 11 and 12... and they're all good... because they have to be BETTER than last year's 12th place corps - or they will be left out.
This is going to be a great year for Drum Corps!!

God i remember 88/89/90 when only eleventh and twelfth were high eighties
It may be worth noting that only the top 6 corps broke 90 at Finals last year--the first time since 1996 that so few corps had done so. Maybe because last year was the first with the new sheets? But if that's the "new normal", then BK would have to do very well indeed, better than seventh, to achieve a score in the 90s. I would be delighted if they did.

I was actually able to see PC at their preview and it's definitely a scarier monster than last years corps. In fact, it makes last years corps look like it'd never stand a chance. I know I'm homer partial to this corps having spent 3 seasons with them but I'm also harsh on the ones I love as well. This corps would've given Glassmen a run for their money last season. I wouldn't be surprised to see them shake things up more this year. Also, they are really close to painfully loud. I say they are the non championship contending dark horse of the year (meaning a possible top 12 finish).
My predictions
What I'd like to see
Crown
PC
BK
Academy
What we will most likely see
Crown
BK
Academy
PC
What will be the proper upset if it were to happen
Crown
BK
PC
Academy
They are truly a fun corps to watch the last couple of years, emotionally engaging and competitive.

It looks to be interesting, quite a few winterguards did bitter earth two years ago and i enjoyed it then. Sorry about your one course, 98 was a beast of a show as well :)
Yeah thanks for the razzing... Haha but seriously I have their preview performance on my phone and they are very much like 2007, 2011 BK in their maturity of sound! I know I'm a mega fan and have students/ex students marching there, but I also know quality! BK has an exceptional show and they'll not only be a favorite this year they're gonna scare the hell outta whoever's in their path.... By the by '99 was supposed to be my ageout year, 1 college course kept me from my ageout!!! Yikes:(

I know I loved it! I also really liked BK 2010 and 2011. Last year's Avian Dance Festival didn't float my boat though.
Yeah I hear you. I mean it was different and some cool stuff happening just quite a departure to what they had been doing before.

Well that 1999 corps still gives him hope :p I mean who didn't like a little bit of Tritico? :p
Have you ever seen Wes rate BK accurately? He always way oversells them - even predicting them in 6th or something like that. Can't really blame him though - he marched there - he deserves to be a BK honk. :tongue:/>

Wow, i clearly realize ita mid june guard, but they are tossing some seriously high ellipticals, i counted a two? Gun line seems to be tossing solid as well. :)
I gotta tell ya CB ol' buddy, this is the best thing that CC has ever put on the field! Period! With BD's re-Rite and this beast, the west coast is going to positively rumble this summer. IMO, this is going to be a horse race from starting gate to finish line between these two juggernauts. This is the uniqueness I was speaking about a few weeks ago, and this is a title competitive show. I am most interested in what the crowd reaction is going to be faced with two back to back shows that come to you live from "outside the bubble". I love it!! Well played CC.....now gird your loins!!!!! />

Even in the tiny images of the video, you can see that they, once again, have beautifully elegant and intricately detailed guard costumes and silks. This is much appreciated in this Year of The Oversaturated Clown Suit, that many others seem to have chosen to wear..
Thank you PR for still having good taste!
Your talking about cadets guard or crowns corps proper when referring to this alleged clown suit?

I hope it really hasn't gotten to a point where certain genre's of music can't win?
depends on what they do with it. Remember videos in June don't always add up to what you see in August. I mean I never expected to see a show about Spartacus win. Or one about a bunch of Euro snobs

From Mesa Arizona:
Crown- 72.25
BK- 68.75
Academy- 62.5
Pac Crest- 62.0
These will be my guess as to what it will look like:)
Wes P
Have you seen the video of BK? I'd have em as low as 63/64 personally.

Didn't even get to the 2nd post of a pro BD thread without someone coming in and pooping all over it.
I didn't poop on it.... I'm guessing I'm just not seeing it yet? Done get me wrong they are very good...they wouldn't be in first if they weren't....

I hope things get shaken up tomorrow! I hope placements switch around alot. Please new judging system... Make it happen!
New sheets are worthless... crowd appreciation has again no value. So people will continue to leave as it an as ctivity that rewards boring un melodic dribble.

Love how hard the kids are working and thier talent. The whole 2012 production? Seems like it should be on the blast stage... it's.... it is what it is.

I've been around the activity for thirty years, and not once have I ever thought there was any corruption in judging. There's certainly a lot of subjectivity, but that's not the same thing. I don't think there's any point-shaving or other such nonsense to try and favor a corps.
The only time I've ever through anything in DCI might have been unseemly was the <cough> random draw <cough> for performance order in 1988. They couldn't have been more obvious about that if they'd tried. But the judges had nothing to do with it.
[/quote
Obvious about what? What's not fair about a random draw? They should play with performance order more. If the g7 are superiors then they should be able to handle stepping off first. When your on doesn't matter it's what you do. And the face that judges don't judge corps on early on as good as on later is silly. Corps should be judged on talent and design no matter when the performance time.

Doing two nights keeps the suspense up for championships, or at least I think it does.
Usedcto be two nights 15 corps a night.... but i digress
-
I know they were the product of a mid seventies merger

everyone needs a laugh one in a while on here.
Especially up here in Toronto, Canada...
I couldnt be further from the action...... bit theres a removed quality the has its benefits.... my friend owns a cinema and were doing a live broadcast... i havent seen a theatre sell out so fast... dci should bring a show up here... we miss it... and the activity in our own backyard...

As the corps as a whole gets cleaner and forms crisp individual interval mistakes start to stick out more.
