  1. Correct. The corps went inactive after 96, even though the bingo kept going. They tried 1 more go at it and it lasted one year. The bingo lousy their license in 04...probably will never see another corps come from CR.

Stinks...we had something going...the momentum was there...the BoD leadership was not. In 96 we were huge and ready to get better in 97...oh what could have been.

Loved nite express all that music from first knight in 96 was very good.

There was also Emerald Knights from Mississauga, Ontario who formed as Emerald cCadets in 1981 and renamed Knights in 86, was sister corps with cedar rapids for a while well old yearbooks say so. The ontario corps was around 1981 to 2001 when they went on to become a performing arts youth group called Emerald Star.

  2. A recent show in Sherbrooke, Quebec had these QUE corps on the field:

    Stentors

    Eclairs

    Titans

    Les Ambassadeurs de la Monteregie

Thats fantastic i had completly thought F.A.M.Q. had dispanded.

One of my favourite memories of marching corps in Canada was the quebec tour so many tiny amazig corps that just couldnt afford to do anything but local... it used to be such a power house circuit but the corps were very poor. But that didnt seem to matter cause they were all pretty good and could have given msny finalist contenders a run for thier money.

  3. Maybe because im third generation in drum corps,i' ve learned you have to respect and pay homage to your past, for if it wasnt for the blessed scrament golden knights, blue rock etc. The activity would not have evolved to what it is today. The sport is always evolving the part we who are currently involved in the sport have to play is to not flame our elder corpsmen as it is a disrespect to the same activity you love, but let us tryvto explain to them where the activity has gone and whats relevent now, i appreciate what was winning in 72 as much as i do 2011, but i appreciate the old for what it brought to the new. Its all connected folks so flaming an old guy forvhis opinion instead of treating him with respect as a fellow corpsman is really just disrespectful to him, yourself and the activity. Take the time to explain whats happening now, they still may not love it, but they can understand what its trying to do.

And for yhe person who said its not thier activity anymore? How epuld u feel if someone told u that when u go to a show in some twenty years? Grow up and act your age.

  5. What we are seeing is the beginning of the dismal tide of financial failure... DCI really does nothing to protect these smaller corps in world and open and its going to bite the whole activity in the ###, but from how i see dci acting they arent really sad snout this in the least. When i marched div III in the late 90's they didnt care about us eithier..

In fact when corps folded in the north and tried to come back to have dci sanction them they wouldnt return calls or emails snd corps couldnt compete. It is not dcis priority and its actions speak that loudly. Smaller corps should compete in dca.. it seems poised to bring back the local circuits given the membership of more corps in the south and west... plus dca encourages a more entaertaining product and really is more positive then the dci experience onecwould get itvopen class with certain competitive levels. Just a thought...

  6. Well, tonight is the first big show (minus Pioneer for some reason) and I beliieve it is time for "the fall". By this I mean, someone, is going to place lower than most of us expected based on their performances thus far this season. Now, the real question is, who? Who is going to take the fall? Tell us who and why?

    RM

Jersey Surf is also not there.

  7. Well, I taught a corps in that class in 2009, and I've seen Open Class championships every year for the last seven or so. Not counting being a fan of Class A/A-60/Division II/III and occasionally teaching in those classes.

Ah cool i get ya.... i loved some div two shows from opd ecj and spartans even les etoiles and dimension rive sud.

  8. Whens the last time you saw open class? Kinda wierd how your so excited that they are entertaining.. good things are always happening in this division....

After all its the division of the future.

Whn's the last time you were entertained this much by two Open Class corps in a row? I mean *entertained* and *engaded* and not just appreciative. And I'm not discounting Blue Saints and Colt Cadets, just making an observation. Usually Open Class is reserved for esoteric concepts with music you couldn't care less about. Usually.

  9. Isn't anything north of Toronto "isolated"? :)

Haha the gta geeater toronto area is home to 8 million people the biggest xommintieis north of it are vaughan 240000 Barrie 195000 and sudbury 160000.... canada is very packed close to the border... but sudbury is very far from the border and in the nickle belt.

Glad to see this corps still around. Ontario is having success in its winterguard and marching percussion activities. Hopefully these trends will see corps to the field soon.

  10. Some not so recent goodies

madison Scouts 1983 (that closer from cats and colas breughnan overture)

Garfield 1984- propelled the activity forward and defined how the activity would look for the following six years

Sky Riders 1988- sound of music and a good hornline....

Obviously madison 1988 and scv 1989

Blue Devils 1990 - its tommy, its fun fun and everyone knows it.

1991 Madison Scouts - City of Angels.. again theatre is a god vehicle for non dc peeps.

1994 Blue Devils my spanish heart... just so much drama and power hard not to relalte with

1995 Cadets of bergen County. From the opening mello solo to the big finish just a great piece of Americana... and thats coming from a non american :)

1996 - Cadets. The american west.. so much fun and theme... BEEF!

1996 Blue Devils... dick tracey was like my favourite show from them fit them well

I believe it was called Club Blue a ganster chronicle.

1997 Crossmen and birdland you do the math.

1997 magic of orlando that french quarter party thing was cool if a bit sloppy but very entertaining ... and one of my favourite ballads.

1998Cadets. Stonehenge. Just a great symphonic work and entertaining.
