  1. How DCA fans, alumni and corps don't get outraged when Buccaneers win 10 of 11 years, and your fans continue to disappear, is beyond me. I guess it's all good, as long as nobody rocks the boat too much, or challenges Reading.

Got courage? Or are we okay with watching DCA circle the drain? You can paint me as a troublemaker, again, but look at the historical record for the last decade in DCA. DCA for the last decade is a pale comparison of what DCA once was from a competition aspect, and that needs to be fixed, or DCA will die. It may take five years, it may take ten, but without change, DCA is coming to an end.

    Simple as that.

"Got Courage?"... Start by looking at yourself? If you're soo concerned with how DCA is run, get in there and make changes. Please...help the activity grow instead of trolling on message boards and blog sites. I would love nothing more, than to go to a DCA championship and fight the crowds because of attendance.

  2. Recently, there have been a few blog posts traveling the web suggesting that the Reading Buccaneers are killing DCA. If you read a little further into the posts, you will find that the author has some radical ideas to help fix DCA. Some of the ideas include having a championship corps not compete the following season in an effort to allow another corps a chance to win.

To me, it sounds like this blog poster is looking to have a corps fold because they win too much. Essentially, this is what could happen if a corps was forced to sit out of championships for a year. HOW IS THIS GOOD FOR THE CIRCUIT??? This is the exact same "Soccer Mom, everybody wins" mentallity that drives the public crazy!!!

What I do know is this. The Reading Buccaneers have driven DCA to a place many thought it would have never gotten to. They have risen the performance bar and A LOT of corps are rising to the challenge. There will come a day when the Reading Buccaneers are no longer champions, and DCA will be better because of the hard work, sweat, and dedication given from the members and staff of the Buccaneers.

You may not be a fan and you may not be a proud alumni any longer, but don't attack one group for something out of their control. You end your post with "I would end this note by warning everyone if you dont do something, people could lose interest in the competitive aspects of DCA". If you want it to change, come out from behind your keyboard and make it happen.

Maybe this would have been more appropriately titled "How a certain blogger killed the Renegades" ???

  3. I love the title of this post, the most genius and funny thing I have ever seen in rebuttal to a blog post, in the history of Drum Corps Planet.

    Bravo. Clap clap clap.

However, to disagree with an objective assessment of the state of DCA based on the historical records is misguided. It's like the people who insist the Earth is flat. You are potentially dooming all-age drum corps through intentional ignorance of the facts and inaction.

And for the record -- the solution for DCA is not to make the Reading Buccaneers lose. That would fail in misery. The solution for DCA is to give every other corps else an equal chance to win. And if the Buccaneers still win then - genius, they are better competitors. But right now, DCA is not competitive at all.

Not because I said so, because the historical record says so. Once a year, everyone gets together and gives the Buccaneers big shiny trophies, tells them how great they are. And less people show up to watch it. Where is the competition? There is none. Why should anybody who loves to compete march in the Cabs, Renegades, Bushwackers, or any other corps who does not fit that model of success? Don't bother, if you ever want to win DCA - forget it. That goal is laughable, in fact, based on the last decade of your life. Form a soccer or softball team instead if you want to compete. You will not find it in DCA.

Like I said, it's funny. But sad, at the same time. Like a mime.

What's sad are the people who sit behind a computer and tell everybody what should/needs to be done, but then does nothing about it and think they have the right to complain. You want competition, go out and tech somewhere and beat the Buccaneers. Simple as that. If you still don't like it, go start your own circuit where everybody gets a first place trophy before any group repeats and have tons of fans fill a huge stadium.

  5. I'm Sorry...I had phone issues at the venue and couldn't get back online.

Bucs were phenomenal...as always. Although they did appear to be very tired...physically and mentally. The best of the group by far.

Cadets 2 brought a new level of energy that we have not seen from them yet. Would not be suprised to see them in contention at the end of the year.

White Sabers I thought were awesome for this time of year. Their battery was exceptional. Brass was strong at first, but appeared to fade a little.

  6. Wow, I must have seen a different show several times live and many more on the video than you did, as well.

I saw "Breaking On Through" in multiple ways. They broke through with different music and styles that they have not played before. I saw the original small boundary get broken and reshaped to expand and then finally they broke through the pit, the sideline and the decibel meters.

The theme was presented in several different ways and adding in the tune "Break On Through" was one of the simplest to read.

I also saw what looked like well over a hundred drill sets, as compared to not so many. That is content and if executed, that equals points.

I guess the Bucs should be glad that you are not a judge and that those who are, were able to see these differences. 9 out of 9 judges all saw it differently than you on that night.

    Thanks for reading.

AMEN!!! there were plenty of examples of the "Break on Through" Theme...How about when the guard wrapped the hornline members in the pink cloth and then the hornline members broke through those!!!

or how about the ultimate example when the entire corps broke on through those numbers to come out on top...THAT is dedication to a theme!!!

  7. I will say this though, after reading through the whole post above, I truly have no idea how Cabs didn't win the effect caption. They had more of what is being asked for in that text than any other group. Variety, Integration, Highs and lows, visual communication of the music (dancing/choreo) and artistic staging of performers than any other show.

I will give it to Cabs..they had the communication per the book in this case.

I think where they fell short is here:

    Design Effect (100 points)

Coordination and integration; Variety and Contrast; Pacing, Continuity, and Climax; Creativity, Artistry, Interpretation, and Entertainment.

Considerations: To what degree did the design:

    - display effective coordination between musical and visual effects

    - show creativity and originality in the use of the components

    - offer consistent pacing through which the audience is engaged

    - present effective climaxes and impacts

  8. As if your response has any weight in a conversation.. it never does. It never did.

    Someone is bitter...

nobody really has any weight in their conversation because each person has their favorite group. There is nobody with an unbiased opinion.

To call DCA a mess and discredit the Bucs championship because YOUR team did not win is very very childish. I feel very sorry for the son/daughter in the Cabs organization who's father is taking to the DCA facebook page and is talking about filing a petition because his son/daughter did not win like he wanted. This is all just crazy...just let it be. If you don't like it, then suit up and do something about it.

I don't think we heard this kind of dissatisfaction when the New England Patriots had an undefeated regular season and then lost the super bowl. Nobody was petitioning the NFL because New England was "Supposed to" win the championship based off regular season results...Heck, in 2011, we didn't hear the Bucs people demanding the trophy because they were "Supposed to" win the championship based off the regular season. They lost with class.
