I can only imagine how the vets feel right about now.

This is similar to the issue my son is wrestling with right now, though he is a music ed major.
The drum corps experience is something he's wanted since he was a sophomore in high school and now he's getting it. But what to do next year? On one hand he wants to do drum corps again. On the other hand, he wants to pursue a high school marching band tech job that will give him something to put on his resume...and a little money in his pocket. It's a tough call for him and he hasn't made it yet.
To the OP's question, I'll just say this: If you can play...if you can march...and if you WANT to do both in a drum corps setting...it doesn't matter what you want to do with the rest of your life. Find a way to do it.
Definitely. It pained me not to march this year but it was a necessary sacrifice.

Only the top corps have more music majors. Where I marched, I was one of probably a dozen in the hornline. The rest were either high schoolers or had totally different majors. My best friend is an engineering major and was a lead baritone with me.
How would he handle practicing during the off-season? Did he buy a horn?

So I marched last year as a rising senior in HS but I decided to take a year off in order to focus on financing my higher education. I plan to get back into the thick of things come audition camp time. However, I won't be a music major in college. How much of a challenge will this be? Has anyone been in the same situation?
