  1. Pretty sure this was taken Thursday morning in 2011. First saw it a couple years ago. The Colt Cadets are parked on the far left with their brown bus and red trailer. We had just gotten a white Traverse. We were parked just a couple spots away from the sidewalk and another white Traverse was parked a couple spots down from us.

  2. I've been to Wonderland Amusement Park, in Amarillo. Lots of fun. BTW, Denton is not in the panhandle

When I was in high school, we made the three hour trip down to Amarillo for a band festival then went to the amusement park. My favorite was to ride in the front car of the water slide. If you ducked at the end, everyone behind you got wet while you stayed dry(er).

  3. What in Gods name are the Colts color guard members doing when they take the field with the odd body movements? Who in the world comes up with this stuff & actually thinks that it looks good & will add to the performance & score?

Mrs. FlamMan & I were planning on attendinng a few shows this year...but after seeing most of the shows on the fan network, neither one of us find enough shows entertaining enough to go. Just way too much darkness, disonnannce & doom & gloom.

Scouts, Crown, Garfield & Troopers have upbeat shows that make me smile. Everyone else...not so much.

If you're wondering who comes up with this stuff, take at a look at the Colts' staff page http://www.colts.org/staff.asp with links to everyone's bios. Our son (sixth season on contra) tells us that the drill is challenging and fun.

The guard are a combination of the tinman, the lion, and the scarecrow. Probably doesn't come across clearly on a computer screen. Easy to see from the stands.

The Colts had an upbeat show celebrating their 50th anniversary last year--Field of Dreams. It's on Fan Network with the other upbeat shows from previous years.

  4. We've been having drum corps/resume related conversations with our daughter, who will march her sixth summer and age out this coming season. After five years with the same organization, she's considering auditioning with BD and mulling the pros and cons. If she stays with her current corps, she stands a good chance of being section leader, and she already has a lot of ideas about what she would like to do in the position. If she auditions and is accepted by BD, she stands a good chance of getting a championship ring. Something we've pointed out is that, when she talks to potential employers, unless she's applying to tech somewhere, they're not going to care that she plays the mellophone well and marches cleanly. They will, however, be impressed if she explains that she took the five-year investment that the corps put into her and returns it by helping to make her section be the very best it can be in a potentially very exciting year for our organization.

Also, her dad works for a major retailer and does a LOT of hiring, including department managers, pharmacists and optometrists. He told her that most everyone has the same major-related campus organizations on their resumes, it doesn't mean much unless you can show active participation and leadership in that particular organization. Just going to the meetings doesn't cut it. So, basically, it doesn't matter so much what you are involved in as how you contribute while you are there.

Good luck with all your pursuits!
