  1. I'm livid about this. I completely understand why DCI is doing it right now, but it hurts to realize that we're not going to be getting official recordings of some of the non-Finalists. There have been so many shows that have been lost to the ages because they didn't cross that magic 12th place barrier and I don't want to go back to that world.

Both Colts and Troopers put on AMAZING shows this year. I'm not arguing that they deserved to compete on Saturday based on the current rules*, but IMO any honest retrospective of the 2015 season has to include those shows and not some Finalists that I felt "coasted" in terms of design. I think it was a good year but there are at least five shows in the Top 12 that I'm never going to watch again. Instead, I want to see the emotion on the face of Troop's DM at the end of their Semis show. I want two copies of Colts: one for each ending.

And yet, I can't come up with a "fair" solution that would give me what I want. The current scoring system is as good anything, it's certainly better than "I want what I think is best", but we're reaching a point where 12 isn't going to be the magic number anymore. Maybe start expanding the collection to 15 corps like the Prelims Broadcast?

    * It's getting ridiculous that there's not a "Wild Card" exhibition spot at Finals. Troop was 11th in GE at Semis, why not let them perform? Why not Colts last year? As the overall talent level improves more and more spectacular productions are going to miss out on Saturday and it's about time that we give them their due. Reward corps for reaching for that brass ring.

    Preach it sister!

  2. My money is on the percussion team for Crown. Showing improvement last season and full off season - and most imortantly, the ability to bring in the talent based on their current momentum, I look for Crown to get into the discussion for the top-tier for percussion in 2016. With the strength of their brass and guard, their percussion doesn't have to win the Sanford. They merely need to be within a 1/2 point of the leader to once again contend for the title.

I don't think kids are any more eager to want to be on Crown today than they were 6/7 years ago. But if you think about it, that's actually a good thing.

  3. As the said nephew, I'm currently focused on 2006.

    Cavaliers - Machine

    Phantom - Faust

    BD - Godfather Part Blue

    Bluecoats - Connexus

    SCV - Moto Perpetuo

    Crown - In.trance.it

Boston - Cathedrals of the Mind

Glassmen - Beethoven: Mastery and Madness

In my opinion the best studio recording ever!

...Though Phantom 2010 comes in at a close 2nd

  4. Blue Devils 2008 (Favorite Blue Devils show of all time)

Carolina Crown 2007 (such a joy to listen to)

    Bluecoats 2013 (instant classic)

Cadets 1983 (Rocky Point Holiday for the win!!)

Phatnom Regiment 2010 (Like Crown 07, has that larger than life feel to it)

    SCV 1999 (eye candy)

I'm only putting 6. Because the 7th corps at every Tour of Champions show is a different one. So, isn't it really just G-6?

  5. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!!! Some of us don't live in the armpit of America... bring DCI back to the westcoast :(

If there's one thing I've noticed over the years of watching Youtube videos of DCI shows from the westcoast, is that people love to talk a lot during performances. Sometimes not even about the shows themselves. So yeah, pass.

  6. This hypothetical may be out of left field, but it is something I've wondered about. I ask this in all seriousness. I'll use Spirit as an example.

Spirit opened their season on June 20, scoring 58.10. Last night in Pittsburgh (Aug 2), they scored 78.85. Now, forget about different panels, etc, Presume the same panel of judges scored both shows on the same sheets. The question I have is:

Do you believe that if Spirit had performed their Aug 2 show on June 20 (precisely the same: Aug level of execution, Aug show, same everything), that they would have scored ca. 78.85?

    Discuss...

Somebody brings up this exact same topic every year or so.

  7. 1. Blue Devils....just too good

    2. Crown...they are the only ones who can beat BD.

    3. Cadets...another bronze.

    4. BCoats...Top three just to good to make the medal round.

    5. SCV...why did this show peak too early?

    6. Blue Knights...future threat to the top 5. They are GOOD!!!

    7. Phantom...

    8. Cavaliers..

    9. Madison Scouts

    10. Blue Stars

    11. Boston Crusaders

    12. Crossmen

I think they were just a significant step back from last year, which is a real shame, they had my 2nd favorite show last year

  8. well, if Blue Stars score as they have in guard and drums all season long and they maintain the visual ge and VP scores they had last night... the gap between them and Crossman will widen by quite a bit... the guard and drum scores from last night were, well, lets say an anomaly... not sure about Crossman beating them in these areas.

Though the same could be said about Blue Stars beating Crossmen in Visual Analysis
