O honey I've been complaining for several years This uniform needs something to not make it look like pajamas.
Well your head must have exploded this year.

While this version is better than the leaked uniform I still dont like it. Get rid of the fade on the pants and make it look not like a onesie. Maybe add a white belt.
You choose this year to critique a uniform?

Their drum line is really strong right now.

Loudest brass so far and to my (untrained) ear a very good percussion section. Well done Spirit.

Their snare tech has a gold medal from last year.

I'm curious as the the opinions on the Colts and Troopers this season? I haven't seen either of their shows yet, and it's killing me. Mandarins, Academy, Colts, and Troopers I think are going to be at each others throats this year!
I like Mandarins, but question the legitimacy of a 13th ranking. As for Academy, I think the corps is great but the show is way too slow and not what it needs to be.
I've heard the Colts have a few teary moments in their show, but little more than that.
I haven't heard ANYTHING from Troopers.
Anyone have any words?
Yeah...one corps being overlooked by everybody and they have a hell of a show.

Solid 2nd show for Spirit...I think Colts are on number 5 or 6.

Today's world GE is 40, Visual 30 and Music 30...
What if Music was 40, Visual 30 and GE 30.
Would it look the same?

It's extremely dirty. Give it time and start watering mid July...
Meaning much room for improvement...vs content of 69 and achievement of 67...?

Corps with less than 3 shows still out there and zero full panels makes it impossible to slot a placement.

This is like picking college football play off teams in March. Some corps have had less than 3 shows...

I just watched a corps that some are hyping, and sometimes don't get what they are seeing.

Excellent tradition!
I, as a rule of thumb, normally do not post on corps traditions or ceremonies out of respect for them, but in this case, they've posted details about this on their own website and social media before, and it's how I learned about it.

And I think they have a meal with the alumni and perform the show?
That's my understanding, yes. And I believe it's at the location or city where the corps originated from.

What is a "cap ceremony"?
Annual event hosted by the alumni association where current members are presented caps (baseball hat I think).

Nice of them to add the Spirit Delta to the board :-)

They have 5 shows lined up this coming week...I think by next Saturday we'll get a glimpse and how things are going. As of now only 1 show under their belt. Last night's rain out kaboshed show 2.

I don't recall seeing any scores with that large of a gap between Content and Achievement. Guess that means judges recognize difficulty but they aren't pulling it off yet.

Really? I mean I love Spirit, but isn't their organization still having issues? I hope youre right though, becuase I do want to see the spirit of the early 2010's back.
No issues. Very positive vibe. Heavy alumni engagement. Business executives and CEO's are on the BOD ( a first). Very well run organization and their ducks are all in a row. Great relationship with Boston's BOD and ideas are mutually shared. Exciting times for them.

How would you interpret the scores from last night? Looking at visual - content was like 71and achievement around 63...is it the show is dirty and has a lot of potential to make up ground, or, it's beyond what they can achieve and needs to be watered? BK was like 68/65 yet PR was .1 behind in total GE. Trying to get a better grasp on how to read the sheets.

Cancellation confirmed.

It seems you are thinking of "Content" in too singular of a fashion. As if you are simply thinking that they are judging music notation on paper. Here is the Content makeup for Percussion:
- Depth of vocabulary
- Depth and Range of Technical and Musical Skills
- Simultaneous Responsibilities
- Range of Musical, Physical, and Environmental Challenges
Looking at those elements, I think you can see how Content scores can evolve across a season.
Thank you. That makes a little more sense.
-
So, if they are both playing the star spangled banner...is not the musical content the same? The achievement score can obviously vary...
Not that any corps would play that..im just curious how this piece of music scores higher in content than a similar piece...especially when we've had multiple instances of corps playing the same piece of music.
-
What I'm saying Is, on the sheet where it has Music Brass...left column is content. Should not that number be the same regardless if the corps is playing the same arrangement.
-
So is it fair to say, If, let's say Cadets played a tune, and let's say Colts played the same arrangement that their Rep or Content would be the exact same on the scoring sheets? Achievement would be different but would not the same arrangement warrant the same difficulty number? And if the number is different in difficulty is based on which box they are in, how can a judge determine some of the members most of the time and all of the members all of the time, when it's say their first read for both corps? It seems the Rep or Content score would be the same since it is the same arrangement (that never happens) but the achievement would vary based on performance.

Not in the post I quoted...but that's ok. Spirit hasn't done much in the past 2 years to warrant anything. They've been up down for a decade, so blowing them off is justified. I've been there myself for many years.
