BAC/Troopers battle going to be a fun one this year. Troop scored a 66.4 out in Wisconsin tonight.

These scores are giving me whiplash.
Meaning????????
EDIT: Never mind. Gotcha.

Thank you for posting the periscope links, corpsband.

we're going to Finals (prelims and semis) too. We're following the corps from Allentown to Finals so we'll see them in Rome NY and Erie PA.
Rome here as well. Only an hour from me.

I am finding I have little patience when it comes to catching Blue Stars shows this year. The curse of being a drum corps parent I guess.
I hope that your son/daughter is having a GREAT time so far, mhix.

I dated her once. Nice girl. Made me smile, too. :>)

Ooooh -- Now I know what to prepare for the Fourth. Now where did I put that sheep's stomach?
Don't worry. Have enough of the Scotch, and forgetting where you put the sheep's stomach won't matter a whit.

http://www.corpsreps.com/search.cfm Pull up song and type in Fire Dance. Been played a few times, but not as much as Ritual Fire Dance.
I love the piece, and saw a performance of it live with Vizzutti in Syracuse a few years ago. JMHO...but there's no way I imagine it being done (DC-wise, that is) by any other than Jim Brady and the Bridgemen. (Quite a year for my daughter, who at the time was a developing trumpet player. She was able to see Vizzutti and Severinson live in the same year. Not together...on separate concerts.) As good as the modern-day players are, I'm not sure any of them could pull it off with the same effect as Brady might have.

Brass Ensembles (Trios, Quartets, Quintets, Sextets, Polychoral, Homogeneous instrumentation, Heterogeneous instrumentation, etc.)
Woodwind Ensembles (Trios, Quartets, Quintets, Homogeneous instrumentation, Heterogeneous instrumentation, etc.)
String Ensembles (of every type)
Marching Bands (consisting of Brasses, Woodwinds, and Percussion)
Percussion Ensembles (both Marching and Concert based)
Woodwind Quintets (4 woodwinds and French Horn)
Etc., Etc., Etc.
Musical Ensembles of every type, size, and instrumentation.
Simply put -- What's next...kazoos and Ukuleles?? What is so wrong with maintaining one organization/musical genre which is comprised solely of Brasses and Percussion? I just don't get it...

I can only tell you HornTeacher, and in no uncertain terms, that the last straw for me with DCI, is if they someday allow Bagpipers on " all scotch ", to compete in DCI competition.
I could just imagine the horror with the narration and/ or singing portion of their show, you know what I'm sayin' ?
Hence, the historical basis for the necessity of Scotch.

Not sure however if this says more about the Troopers for 2016, or The Cadets for 2016.
It says what it says about the Cadets and Troopers in 2016.

3. Band programs are declining across the country as school systems have started cutting funds towards music education. Less students taking up an interest at an early age increases the likeliness of less kids wanting to march.
Great post, Cappy. I feel that all of the factors you listed are pretty much spot on. Now, as to the point above...
I'm sure that there are many who might dispute what you stated. And if one only looks at the traditional "powerhouses" across the country, it might appear that there isn't much change from the past. However, not every school possesses a "powerhouse" (again, high schools are what I'm talking about -- not D&BC) marching band -- say nothing of even one in the field marching level. But if we were to look at smaller, rural schools across the country, it is pretty much indisputable the marching activity is becoming less and less of an interest to the common student. This is a trend permeating throughout the field of school music -- not just marching. Concert Band numbers are down. School Jazz Ensembles are either disappearing altogether, or are sporting smaller instrumentations. Increasing course requirements are leaving less time in the school schedule for students to have an "elective." Add to this the many options more available to the common student than was available in the past. When I was in high school in our small rural town, there was little else available to us (during the summer) for interest than to march in the summer marching band (well, other than hunting dinosaurs, that is). The options were either do the family chores, get together (with whatever friends were available) at the school for pick-up sports days, or watch TV. Now?? Sports camps of every available kind, summer camps of every available kind, the need to secure a summer job because the impending costs of college far exceed what we grew up with...all are factors. Drum Corps is now feeding off colleges, universities, and "powerhouse" high school programs almost exclusively. There is no FEAR of change. There is simply change. And I don't see it improving any time soon.

"Performing their 2017 program, Enhanced Interrogation, Drum Corps International is proud to present..."
You mean it's not part of Trooper's "Hero." program?? Or will they be going with "Western Federal Witness" next year....

HI,
Well, thanks for cheering up this old skating coach. I'm impressed at the knowledge you guys have :-) You should all hope that DCI never adopts a scoring system like the ISU ( International Skating Union). While it is supposed to be more transparent, it still has many grey areas and does indeed lead to cookie cutter programs. AND, it can be tough for the average bear to understand. There's only so many ways to get a level 4 spin and even fewer to get a level 4 step sequence. I do miss the old 6.0 system at times, but it still has some presence in the component scores. On that note... Bluecoats.. WOW! Can;t wait to see the Crossfoot Spinners and the Santa Clara Salchows :-)
I do miss figures... compulsories, but they compulsories wouldn't work in the drumcorps activity. Appreciate diversity, not sameness.
Best Regards,
John

Do we crown them as Emperor? In their new clothes?
Only if they're on horseback. And even then...it might be Lady Godiva in disguise.

feel like thats already happened..
As was the case with the Golden State Warriors...and look where that ended up.

Crossmen scored a 67.55, and BAC a 65.95 in Lynn, MA tonight. I think "interesting" is an extreme understatement.
