I'm of the belief that a corps' placement depends very little on its membership and largely on its staff and leadership.

The lighter the better. Mesh shorts are lighter and retain less heat than cargo shorts, so I prefer those.
Try wearing the hat backwards from time to time to blur the tan line.

Somebody in the Cadets this past year fell in San Antonio just before they made the ending company front, but it didn't cause anyone else to fall. Not sure how he fell either.

From what I've witnessed, it's not uncommon for many corps to have at least one trainer on hand during the summer.

Perceived "loudness" is not always about the decibels put out by the hornline, but is affected by factors such as voicing, intonation, and the musical context of the loud moments.
What I'm saying is, the corps who sounded loudest might not have been the actual loudest. What is loud?

DCI is the corps. Although they are separate financial entities, both the DCI organization and the corps within are taking similar financial hits from the economic issues... in fact, isn't everyone?
Show attendance was at a record low this year in several instances, and if DCI is having trouble getting butts into the seats, the likely solution would be fewer shows, shorter season.

During your show, take deep, controlled breaths while you're not playing.
Don't just do it in shows. Do it in practice to get into the habit of always taking full breaths, especially when you get a break (perc. solo, etc.). They don't call it a "breather" for nothing.

I have a feeling we won't see any increase in judging panels due to the increase in cost.
In fact, I have a feeling we might see some smaller judging panels rather soon.

Given the increasing costs and decreasing interest in our activity, I would more easily foresee a diminishing schedule than an expanding one.

I'll have to go with Bluecoats for their consistency. I've enjoyed every program they've put on these past few years (although I didn't get to see this year's), especially 2006.

Your situation is not uncommon. In fact, at the YEA! Cadets Experience camp, auditioning is optional. They know that some people just go for the experience.
I'm sure any corps, Boston included, would be happy to have you and your money at their camp.

I think it's hard to say for sure which brass lines are better if you're not on the field sampling each player's and each section's quality of sound, intonation, blend, articulations, etc....

I've seen every finals retreat live since 2001, and I've always appreciated the differences in philosophies among the corps. Some choose to maintain their demeanor as if they were performing (ala Cadets, Phantom Regiment), and some choose to treat the affair more as a celebration. However, all corps upheld a degree of respect for each other (for the most part, save some allegations of aggressive candy throwing).
This year's retreat was different. Certain corps exhibited rude and disrespectful behavior towards other corps, making direct verbal assaults and physical invasions that I and hopefully most others would consider unacceptable.
While I'm sure that the situation will be dealt with by the corps directors, that doesn't change the fact that I felt downright embarrassed at times to be on that field (and, of course, proud to be wearing the uniform I was wearing).
From my eyes, it was a sad and disappointing moment for the activity.
