This pretty well is the case with the entire fanbase as well I think. Their visual programs in particular leave a lot of people scratching their head, but even then they’re able to do whatever it is they’re doing effectively (whatever that means). Their GE scores certainly seem to reflect that no one is quite sure what to do with BK.

Would it be the same if BD or Coats we’re performing that show, or would it be considered genius ??

Who knows? I think other corps would have very different visual designs if given the same arrangements, and I would be the first to admit that many of those designs would be better.

Judges cannot make up their minds on BK GE. No other corps has such a great degree of variation in the 4 subcap scores.

The broadcast mics for Flo don’t disappear between corps or move (the ones I saw for Crown certainly are absent for SCV). If they were mics for soloists, they wouldn’t be taller than the MMs by a head or more.

Crown seems to have used them for highlighting small ensemble work. There were times when sections, particularly high brass, were staged in front of the mics. I don’t know what it’s like live, but over the broadcast you can hear the time delay between the speakers and acoustic brass sound.

Are you going to cry now...or just accept that you don't have the facts. Write Crown a letter and tell them how unhappy you are.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to provoke from me here. I wrote to DCI last season about this very thing. Obviously, they received enough feedback to address it in the rules conference, but that went nowhere.

Crown!!! WHY ARE YOU AMPING YOUR BRASS????

    posted from the DrumScorps app

Crown does not amp their brass. Those are likely recording mics for Flo/DCI to broadcast. There is a difference between a recording Mic and a projection Mic. Also, some microphones are placed in front for solos and can be turned off and on when needed. Stop throwing out accusations until you know the facts or do some research on these things. Your comments all night have been way off base and negative.

The thing is, on a performance level, I can tell it’s a stellar year. Talent is soaring through the activity. It’s design that turns me off. Amplification of brass, unattractive costumes, sound bytes and prerecorded effects, singing (even though the singers themselves are excellent to exceptional).

All of these elements are usually so jarring that I’m no longer immersed in the experience.

    You’re not wrong.

Knowing this activity though, I’m not the only one with these opinions.

Just not a fan of the top 7 right now. SCV is ok I guess, and the back half of Bloo has a lot of energy, but otherwise music and design-wise I’m just not engaged.

It’s entirely the fault of the designers too. There’s no denying the talent and hard work of the members. But, meh.

So you were being SERIOUS with this post? Oye! It makes me sad as you aren’t getting or are connected to a particularly STELLAR year of DCI.

This has to be the first Cavaliers show in a long while that I enjoyed the music more than the visual. That is no slight of the visual package, either. I love it all!

I'm really partial to their 2014 show as well but I agree. Their music book and sound stepped up in a big way this year!

Cavies 2014 is a joy to listen to.

Well you have been a negative nancy for nearly every finalist corps tonight except BK so I'm not surprised

I’m quite aware. At this point, I greatly enjoy the vast majority of non-finalist shows. Blue Stars, Crossmen, Mandarins, and BK I greatly enjoyed. Phantom needs... something... for their show, I’m not sure what, but I don’t dislike it. But there are so many little design decisions in the top few corps from 2016 on that just bother me.

This show is a bit of a hot mess with the mics cutting out. It’s completely lost GE because of it. Will the judges reflect this in their scoring? We’ll see, but I doubt it.

    posted from the DrumScorps app

I could be wrong but I think the GE judge with a music focus is on the field rather than in the stands so the mic issues may not translate to the field

Why in the everloving eff would you have a field-level GE judge?

Ok BK, show us that the 2.5 point drop was a fluke.

    posted from the DrumScorps app

The big drop was definitely a fluke, but I think the 87 the night before was too. They'll be closer to Cadets tonight but probably not an 87.

True enough. I’m seeing lots of visual issues. That’ll hold them back.

But I can’t get over their hornline. They’re punching above their weight for sure. There’s a raw, unfiltered power to their sound that nobody else has.
