Interesting that Boston Crusaders wins Guard, Percussion, Visual and Music. Blue Devils wins GE and Carolina Crown wins Brass. Oh to be a fly on the wall in those drum corp after meetings with staff.

Congratulations Blue Devils - Music caption alone (spread) will win them the championship this year. Shout out to SCV for another great percussion section and Boston Crusaders for surpassing Carolina Crown and winning Guard. It's going to be a great summer!!! Just my 2 cents!

Boston Crusaders taking Visual, Music, Guard, Percussion, momentum is on their side. SCV inching closer over Bluecoats.

There was probably lots of disgruntled drum corp viewers in 88/89 with SCV doing Phantom of the Opera (how dare they) or I know that 93 Star of Indiana had lots of people talking, but there was no social media at the time. Did the best show win those year? I will let the judges decide that. I am just an audience member watching a show.

The majority of the audience has the attention of a peanut thanks to things like Tik Tok and Instagram that prioritize bite sized information over comprehensive and deeply informative forms of media. As a result, the shows have evolved to get with the times and match that attention span. Short musical statements switching into a new one abruptly, loud chords, flashy moments, dance breaks, etc all to maintain the audience’s crappy attention spans
I’m no exception. While I don’t mess with Tik Tok, I definitely have less of an attention span than I did in high school just prior to when smartphones and social media became the norm.
I agree with everything Cappybara is saying. It's that some corp are doing better than others.

I don’t get it. Was drum corps not “with the times” in 1980 (when a top corps played a pop chart from the year before as their opener, on G bugles)? It’s not like marching bands didn’t start using trombones until 2014. It’s not a “current trend,” it’s just a thing marching bands have always done.
That's the point, drum corp is evolving and some people seem to be clinging to what they remembered from the past. The times have changed, all I ask that they do it well.

Whether it's removing the tick system, expanding the percussion section, using horns - non G bugles, trombone, electronics, mics, expanding from the traditional 128 number to 165 marcing members, voice or narration, drum corp is evolving with the times. The cats out of the bag. All of the corps will have to adapt with current trends to stay relevant. Some corps will thrive and other fall to the wayside. It all depends on the staff, the musicians and guard members to executive thier provided show and how the judges react to what they hear and see on the field on any given day. Just my 2 cents!

Top Three
1. Carolina Crown/Blue Devils/Boston Crusaders/Bluecoats
2. Blue Devils/Boston Crusaders/Carolina Crown/Bluecoats
3. Boston Crusaders/Bluecoats/Blue Devils/Carolina Crown
It will be much clearer in August in Indianapolis
Just my 2 cents 😉

Of course GE or Visual isn't guaranteed yet. We are only five freaking days removed from Independence Day lol.
The spread between BD and SCV is nearly two points. Sorry dude but that is not close. And BD has slowly opened that gap every show except for Tempe.
BD has taken 105 out of a possible 120 captions/subcaptions over SCV in five head to head matchups.
Can things change.......yes. Could SCV surge and catch and pass BD..........sure they could. We have seen all types of crazy things happen over the years thru out a DCI season. After all it's only July 9th.
But we are talking about what has happened to this point. So let's stop with this notion that SCV is nip and tuck with BD. Cause to this point, BD has absolutely dominated them, and the scores and recaps show it.
You are correct with everything that you said, but I'm not comfortable (and anyone else should be too) with that 2 point lead which includes 105 out of possible 120 captions/subcaptions over SCV to call it the season and to hand them the championship after four/five viewings. This show should be at least a 5 point lead at this point of the season (especially since SCV had an incomplete show with no focal idea at this moment. Is BD show good, YES! Tons of multiple focus, tons of layering, but it's still choppy, disconnected, odd transitions and the show is no where near clean for BD visual and colorguard standards. Will they smooth out the transitions, I hope so! They have a talented staff and phenomenal performers and lots of tricks up their sleeves. It will be a dogfight no matter what, once you add Carolina Crown, Boston Crusaders and Bluecoats into the mix. Just my 2 cents!

Not so bold prediction: BD will win and take GE1, GE2, VA, and VP. They could win or lose color guard, percussion. They’ll likely lose brass and music ensemble.
I believe that Crown, Bluecoats, Crusaders, and SCV all are going to be held up by design issues. Bluecoats least so. It’s not that I don’t like those shows, I just wouldn’t say it is any of their strongest years for show design (except maybe Boston, who hasn’t been that close to a championship).
I've seen Blue Devils several times and they do have some design issues too. Yes they are beating SCV, but the point spread is close and SCV is struggling with their show and it's nowhere near complete or clean. No one is guaranteed to take GE or Visual yet!!! As for guard, Boston Crusaders, Bluecoats, Carolina Crown are in the hunt! Percussion is still up in the air. Brass looks likely a Carolina Crown, but anything can happen. Just my 2 cents!

Wow looks like my favs all had good runs tonight! and BD guard had probably their best run… Awesome.
Once again, time will tell if they can maintain this. Guard did take caption with 8.3 in Content (ahead of SCV) but (behind SCV) 8.0 in Achievement. And this is with a SCV guard that is not a focal point of the show and easily gets lost visually due to lack of color. This is uncharted territory for the Blue Devils guard. Boston Crusaders, Bluecoats and Carolina Crown will challenge them for this caption come August.

I’ll call it now. Mandarins make top 12. What a fun fun show
Like there was any doubt! You are two weeks late for that call! Will be in the middle of the pack - 6th-9th place at finals!!

Caption contenders:
GE - Bluecoats, Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Boston Crusaders
Visual - Bluecoats, Carolina Crown, Boston Crusaders, Blue Devils
Brass: Carolina Crown, Blue Devils, Boston Crusaders, Bluecoats
Percussion: SCV, Bluecoats, Blue Devils, Carolina Crown
Guard: Boston Crusaders, Carolina Crown, Bluecoats, Blue Devils
Will get a better vision at San Antonio
Just my 2 cents

I don’t know… looking at DCI west (pre-Covid, was happening late June) BD was leading SCV by .95 in 2017 and trailing SCV by .65 in 2019. Both championship years, so this kind of spread over SCV (historically) is a great place to be for BD.
My point is that spread is not big enough (for SCV with an incomplete show and still be competitive), so Bluecoats, Boston Crusaders and Carolina Crown can overtake Blue Devils several times this season. Just my 2 cents.

The Ott trophy is definitely staying with Crown, they do have a Championship level show but they will be competing with Blue Devils for gold and it might come down to has the better percussion line. I'm a little surprised your calling it so early in the season, lol..
Percussion is one of Blue Devils strengths, but they lost twice to SCV this year. Are they the monolith of past years, NO!!! The key to Crown if they want to succeed will be in GE, executing a strong visual program and having that color guard and percussion push themselves until August 13th - they have 36 days to max out this show!

BD/SCV has went head to head four times so far.
SCV has a total of 12 subcaption, and two caption victories over BD out of a possible 96 in four matchups.
And the two caption wins they have won over BD is percussion, and that is tied up 2-2 with BD winning two.
So with a total record of 14-82 vs BD in caption/subcaptions, please explain how that is "Several" according to your words.
Just pointing out that the Blue Devils show (complete, yes, is an amazing production, but it is not the monolith of the program) from years past. Anything can happen in two weeks (San Antonio), let alone at finals. I would be more concerned with the point spread between Blue Devils and SCV. Just my 2 cents!

After several viewing this season. This is my updated prediction of Drum Corp 2022.
Tier 1: Boston Crusader, Bluecoats, Blue Devils, Carolina Crown
SCV (transitional corp) - has beaten Blue Devils in several captions/subcaptions (4 head to head competitions) with an incomplete show (GE, visual proficiency/analysis, Music analysis, Percussion).
Tier 2: SCV - could easily see a surge with the right ending, visual tweaking, Cadets, Mandarins, Phantom Regiment
Tier 3: Blue Knights, Cavaliers (struggling in the visual/color guard arena = lower GE potential, Academy, Blue Stars, Crossmen
Tier 4: Colts, Madison Scouts, Troopers, Jersey Surf, Pacific Crest

You know, every Boston fan I have talked with since the Dover show is well aware of the wisdom behind "you can't compare scores from different shows", and NOBODY thinks that BAC has beaten BD/SCV/BLOO/CROWN....as of yet.
However, you also cannot deny that this is the best BAC ever and they are at least in the conversation now.
I agree, this might be Boston Crusaders best show. Strong color guard, a brass section and percussion that can hold their own, good visual program and so much GE potential. Still a strong Tier 1 contender in my opinion.

OK folks a very simple question why are so many corps wearing white or off-white uniforms this season?
White was always like kryptonite for visual proficiency as it does not hide dirt as well as darker colors
White uniforms work based on the theme and a clean look that the corp is trying to portray. Usually the color guard is using strong popping colors to contrast and using silks in the same way.

Even with a ruff run a 75.45 puts things in Perspective.
SCV 74.05 (difference of 1.4) With an incomplete show, lack of color pallate on the field, and a bad uniform. I would be very worried!! VERY WORRIED!!!!

For many years I have been able to accurately predict the finals results and placements with few exceptions. This year I see many of the corps upping their game. I'll do an in-depth review on my second view in the next week or so. Curious as to others predictions after the first few shows. I've color coded the competitive positions and expect to lock in after my next view. If they're not color coded I expect them to be locked into that position. Good luck to all the corps and welcome back to competition.
1. Blue Devils
2. Bluecoats
3. Carolina Crown
4. Phantom Regiment
5. Santa Clara
6. Cadets
7. Cavaliers
8. Blue Stars
9. Boston
10. Mandarins
11. Colts
12. Madison Scouts
Holy crap!!!! Boston Crusaders and Mandarins are you kidding me!!! Both of those corps are out performing at this moment and show design and execution high. Please watch again! and don't blink!!!

This is my first real viewing of SCV and it's just not grabbing my attention. I want to like it, but I am finding it difficult
A lot of people said the same thing with Star of Indiana in 1993.

I am delighted to see that there are a lot of groups making guard interesting and that it will be a lot harder to have a 6 or 7 year run of winning the caption, but to think that BD who has been top 2 in guard every year since 2007 suddenly won’t be this year is betting against history. Crown guard is reminding me of the Bluecoats guard in 2018. They were crisp and spotless, however demand is what held them back from breaking into the top 2 of BD and Boston. I certainly love Crown’s Sabre work with the streamers attached to them, it’s a wonderful effect. I just don’t see them approaching the complexity of BD and Boston… this year at least. But hey, crazier things have happened. At San Antonio a couple years ago Phantom was 4th in guard and like a week later they were back to 8th or 9th. I am just excited to see how this season plays out! Definitely going to get interesting
DIng, Ding, Ding!!!!! Someone gets it!

Nope, not going to happen. Blue Devils are quite strong in the GE and Visual caption area this year. Will it be a clean sweep? I don't think so, but they have THE best show (and are performing at a high level). Probably one of the better designed and thought out shows this year. They have a vision, with music, design and really perform to the score sheets, to earn top high marks. Awesome job Blue Devils!!!
