This is amazing.   Yesterday there was a topic that seemed to indict Crown for "revoking" past scholarships, insinuating that Crown is being unfair. Today someone provided "proof" of the situation that seems to undermine the victimhood narrative, and then an epic exercise in rhetoric ensues.   The psychology (psychopathy?) of our community must be experienced to be believed.

I don't think you can put "revoke" in quotes like that when Crown used the word "revoke" themselves.

They are revoking it...now whether it is okay to do something like that is in question.

It seems like it was in the terms of the contract the kids signed. Until we see that, we won't be able to discuss the "legality" of their actions.
That being said, just because it's legal doesn't make it right. People are more than welcome to argue the ethics of this. That shouldn't be dismissed by anyone...Boston or Crown fans. This really isn't even an issue between the two corps. We should be able to have a civil conversation about the ethics of this practice without being so one-sided. I imagine if the roles were reversed in this situation, a lot of the comments on here would be too.

I agree with Brasso. There needs to be some sort of policy in place that sheds light on the revoking of scholarships from previous years. Personally, it doesn't sit right with me. Giving a kid a $500 scholarship to march in 2015 is for the 2015 season. To say, you can not march any other drum corps for the entirety of your drum corps career is a bit petty. Petty, I think so, yes...but in compliance with terms and conditions, probably.

  2. Well I'm not a dancer...but I do know that the horn-line this past season would do plié, sautés, and coupes fairly regularly in their morning block on tour...

just saw this morning that one of the visual guys from Crown "announced" he was going to BAC. I think he did mostly movement (vs marching). is there any news on the rest of the team?

  3. I was very happy to see their staff get renewed for the 2017 season and beyond. This will certainly keep them in the top five, maybe even have them receive a medal come August 12th?

I definitely think top 5. And I wouldn't mind seeing them medal! I have a feeling next year's battle to be in the top 3 will be exciting.

I know a lot of drum corps take a dip every now and then (some more permanent than others), but when Cavies took theirs...it hurt. I'm not a big Cavies honk but I'm rooting for them. A lot of us are. Go Cavies Go!

  4. all for different reasons.

rosales left drum corps for a year

aungst left for his alma mater

potter, may, towsend -- yeah they left for Oz. good luck to them

techs come and go. you act like people never leave crown. happens every season.

you want to panic, go ahead. or you can wait and see if it's all a net upgrade.

No one is saying panic. No one has said they are in deep crap. No one is saying they'll tank. In fact, most keep saying that this sucks for them but they'll probably be fine.

But it can't even be talked about without a couple people here getting overly defensive.

  5. well -- 3 friends all left at the same time. hardly half the staff. pretty bad exaggeration. and those 3 were given some really powerful motivation to jump all at once!

aungst was more of an advisor but he's not the whole percussion caption. and an entirely different departure.

I don't think Crown is in a ton of trouble, but this can't be easy for them. It's definitely a bump in the road. I just don't get why we are pretending like nothing happened over there. Something happened and it is a bump in the road.

I'm sure they'll handle the bump well but not with complete ease.

3? A couple percussion guys, the whole guard staff, 3 major designers, the movement choreographer for the corps, and a couple visual guys I would say is close to half.

  7. I don't know enough about Crown to know of any internal problem. Like I said...the two friends I have who volunteer love Crown and go back every year. And I read on their website how they have tons of kids coming to auditions and most of the vets returning each year. So there can't be that big of an internal problem like you say. But who knows. I guess everyone's perspective might be different.

I haven't said this is a big internal problem. But there must be something going on. That's where this discussion stemmed from. Half of their staff left lol

  8. Nope...just want to know where this idea came from. Or is it just speculation coming from some Crown haters.

And there's a big difference between a Crown hater and people who don't really love the Coates. Dont get all defensive and lump them into one. I loved Crown before the Coates were there, I loved Crown while the Coates were there, and I'll love them after the Coates leave...as will many of us.

The staff and kids are the heart of that program for me.

  9. So...you don't have any sources...right?

    I wasn't the one that said anything. I don't need a source.

My point was, you keep asking for sources as if someone is going to give you names. No one is going to do that lol

But why don't you ask some of the members yourself how they feel about them? Let us know when you get to the bottom of it.
