Anyone at the show? Weather update?
-
General thoughts: got top of general addmission, so good seats. We were surrounded by Legends fans, and they all left before Spartans to beat traffic, which we all found very irritating and disrespectful to the hardworking kids in the Spartans. Pretty good venue for drum corps, and pretty nice acoustics! But OMG THE BUGS.
I wasn't there, but I'll bet Legends had a meal immediately following performance. Probably what you saw was family, friends, and volunteers heading back to the food truck to meet the corps and hand out food and hugs. Guarantee no disrespect was meant to Spartans or any other corps.

As an OpenClass parent, I had no real stake in tonight's outcome.
But it does highlight the one aspect of this activity I wish were somehow different - the fact that everything - a whole season, 1000's of hours, and sooo much work comes down to one single performance.

I live in MA, and the corps that I know of closest to me are Spartans and 7th Regiment.
As a 2nd season OC parent...
My advice echos much of the above... OpenClass is, I think, the right place to start...and more local is better.
If 7th and Spartans are reasonably close, explore them both. Most corps do camps prior to auditions - do those.
Then audition for both, spend as much time as your can with the members and instructors - you would be spending every waking minute of 2 months with these people, find people you like and respect.
There's no real rule-of-thumb for tuition (that I know about).
Also, if you're perc, check out WinterGuard programs. Both my boys started in WGI and I consider it a decent first step towards marching DBC.
The biggest thing is to DO...

haven't noticed any shots of the crowd yet, but sounded fairly sparse so far for most groups. I don't think any scores were announced, though I might have missed them - I'm at work.
They did announce first block of scores. I don't have them, tho :(

Man, that opening fanfare for the Legends sounds GREAT! Excited to see that show from a good angle in a week!
Bring a seatbelt :)

Is there a schedule for I&E published anywhere?

Hamilton Drum Corps Classic
Open Class
1. 69.200 Blue Devils B
2. 67.000 Legends
3. 65.400 Spartans
4. 65.350 7th Regiment
5. 58.400 Raiders
6. 53.250 Stentors
All Age Class
1. 53.250 Cincinnati Tradition
Full panel. BDB not first in everything: second in Visual Proficiency to Legends and third in Guard to Legends and Spartans. Regiment second in Brass and Music Analysis.
Shadow Showcase
Open Class
1. 73.050 Vanguard Cadets
2. 69.650 Genesis
3. 59.000 Colt Cadets
4. 48.700 Racine Scouts
All Age Class
1. 51.200 Kilties
Also a full panel. All captions and subcaptions match the overall placements. Genesis was closest to SCVC in Color Guard.
SCVC clearly the favorite this year. The big question next may be: is Genesis better than BDB?
As far as Genesis being better than BDB goes - I don't think one show is enough to even really plant that seed.
According to the BDB calendar, they traveled all week prior to last night - no formal rehearsal days. If Genesis beats them the next show or two,
I think your question has merit, but my guess is BDB was shaking the rust off last night.

Dixon scores were up for a minute...gone now tho.

Is there a reason Spartans had a score of "0" from one of the GE judges?
There are several (many) zero boxes...looks like something got sideways transmitting results.
-
Heard from a student of mine today that marches Legends. They're having transportation issues. The transmission on her bus went out on their way to Pennsylvania this morning. She just now said they got to the show tonight but no word yet on their bus. Darn bus issues.
Nobody I know better suited or equipped to handle that kind of thing than Legends' director. And his members would step into traffic for him. He'll get it sorted and behind them in no time.

Legends, MC, 7th, Genesis all have had very little head-to-head up till now, and have plenty coming up in the next week.
Too soon to tell in my book.

Cymbal toss on live TV? Sure, no problem. - Legends Cymbal Line

To the OP's question, as a DBC parent, I say yes.
It's been a welcome change (vs sports rivalries) seeing how members respect the work of other corps.

Anyone there tonight?

Cymbals were meant to FLY!

There some sort of formula. I want to say (from a vague memory) that the lineup is sorted by last year's score at this show, then divided into three or four groups, then randomized within each group. So, if you won the show last year, you're guaranteed one of the last 3 spots, but it's random which one.
