  1. One difference between the main line of Kanstul trumpets and thier marching line is quality. They don't design thier marching horns like thier chicago/signature series. Or the prices would way to high to use as a marching horn. I bought a Kanstul ZKT 1503. Its a great horn. I'm sure its better than any of thier marching horns, or why would anyone buy the more expensive ones. If you're looking to just get a marching horn then  buying of of Kanstul's MArching horns would be great. But I personally wouldn't dare take my new 1503 outside. I'm gonna use my old POS Strad for marching band this year.

I understand what you're saying but I think it will meet my needs for a while to come. Me buying a professional grade trumpet would be like a new golfer going out and dropping major cash on top of the line clubs. I need to learn what fits best.

Thanx everyone for all the help.

  2. I'm pretty sure I'll be going with a Kanstul trumpet when I purchase one this winter/spring.

My next question would be, what is the difference between a regular trumpet and a marching trumpet?

Is it just the stronger braces or is there other differences?

It is part of their Custom Class series of horns. It has a .470 (huge!) bore. Great, if you can fill it.

I'll being buying one of the Bluecoats used Kanstul COL 103 trumpets.

It'll make a nice match to my new Kanstul Powerbore Soprano that should arrive right after DCA finals.

    Life is good! :)

... and I say to myself, what a wonderful world.

  4. Exactly what model of King Trumpet does Phantom march with?

Are they special, by that I mean have they been beefed up for a marching environment.

I've heard good things about King trumpets and I don't have the money for a Xeno or Strad.

  5. My butt is still recovering from the ride to Rockmart and Winston-Salem.

It's going to be real sore coming back from Orlando.

I got to talk to a few folks from G Force and MCL. Seem like nice folks. Thanx for making the trip, that goes for all of the others too.

Those folks from Orlando must have Iron Butts!!! (or really comfortable seats)

  6. I have two for my soprano, a Bach 1 and Bach 1 1/2 CW.

I love them both. If I'm going to be playing a lot at rehearsal I'll go with the 1 1/2 CW.

If I'm just practicing at home for an hour or so I'll use my 1.

For my trumpet, I don't know yet. I just bought one (trumpet) to fool around with and I haven't quite found what I like. I should put the trumpet down until the season's over.

  7. Also had to chance to watch "Gold" practice a few weekends ago in my backyard.

    Yeah?

I was the guy walking around the 35 yard line lost beyond all hope.

If you you're not marching with anyone this year and thinking about marching, please consider us. We could use a few more folks. These are some of the nicest people I've worked with. The staff is great and the members are pretty cool.

I believe we will do well this year and have a lot of fun.

  8. I minored in Bostonian in college B)  Naa,, actually I'm from Mass and it comes as second nature, Like being a fan of the SOX :)

I grew up North of Boston (yes, there is North of Boston) and have lived in Virginia for 16 years now. I am proud to say I can pronounce the letter "R." Words like beer, door and store are once again one syllable words. The only time it (the accent) slips out is if I've had a few beeers or if I'm around other Bostonians.

I miss it sometimes. But, it is nice to be able to golf well into November.

    GO SOX!!!

  9. I'm starting my search for a trumpet.

I knew what I wanted when I bought my Sop but I have know idea of what I should be looking for when buying a trumpet. I know I want a silver horn. I know I want something more than a beginning student horn. I'm thinking mid-grade maybe a little more.

As far as brands go, there seems to be a lot more trumpet makers than bugle makers. Who among them produces a good middle value Bb trumpet?

As far as used trumpets go, what brand seems to hold up better than the others?

    All, thanx for the advice.

  10. I have an old King's (made in Cleveland) cornet that has seen better days. I have my Dynasty Sop that I march with and I am on ebay right now looking for a trumpet.

(Maybe two trumpets. My daughter starts middle school next year and they have band.)

  11. A fantasy hornline would need more bass. You don't need as many sops to feel their presence.

If you had a really big hornline (I mean big) and had an equal amount of sops to bari's, what you could do is park them in an arc, let them have their way with the volume and remove a sop and replace them with a bari until the peoples ears stop bleeding.

That's when you would achieve perfect balance. I'm all about balance. :P

  12. the way I memorize my music is  by playing it at rehersal ... you can give me a piece to memorize at home over the week and I cant do it ... you stick me with the rest of the hornline for a weekend and I can memorize everything we play that weekend. So for me I memorize best playing it all as a group

Great topic.....I think many of us have the same problem........

I spend a lot of time in my garage doing almost nothing but I do, however, have the folder with the charts open at all times. I tend to visualize the charts in my head and when a phrase, segue, passage or whatever you want to call it comes up blank I simply look at the chart at the part that is unclear. I guess that is memorizing by rote. I think!! Don't know but it works for me. :( If all else fails...........FAKE IT!!!!!!!!)

That's pretty much what I'm doing. I spend a lot of time in the garage practicing. Due to bad weather (we missed rehersal) and the Holidays we've haven't had a rehersal in four weeks. I'm just praying I haven't developed too many bad habits that will be tough to break from. I'm still working on my music reading skills so it makes it that much tougher.

All, thanx for the advice. I'll keep working at it and see what works best for me.

    see ya on the field,

    keith

  13. Are there tricks/gimmicks/aids for memorizing music?

I've been working on a few pieces for a while but I can't seem to memorize them completely.

Can it be done? Is a piece memorized as a sheet or as data? I can't imagine memorizing every note and rest. Is it a feel thing, when you have played it so much with the rest of the line, it just comes to you?

    HELP Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....................................

  14. Nobody wants to go second and be know as the person who missed first.

That's why I'm going to wait.

    OOPS! b**bs

I was going to start a new topic with something like..."How about a larger arc or thinner horn players?"

It's not that I mind rubbing elbows with mellos it's just they seem to like it. :sshh:

  15. For the folks that own both a Kanstul and a Dynasty soprano:

Is there one soprano you prefer over the other?

I am considering saving my pennies to buy a Kanstul power bore soprano. I currently own a Dynasty that is in very good condition.

In your opinion is there enough of a difference to justify the purchase of a new horn?

(Keep in mind, my wife doesn't understand why anyone would need more than one horn and one mouthpiece.)
