  1. The show this past weekend in Virginia was the only show in the south that was relatively close to Tampa (1800 miles round trip!!). Financially getting 3 buses, 1 semi and a van to and from is quite an expense. Had the 4th of July parades been closer to the weekend, we would have been able to go up early, march the parades (make some $$) then perform at the competition.

We did perform a standstill exhibition at DCI Orlando in front of the giant crowd they drew there back on June 23rd. The corps just had it's first uniformed full-run performance this past Saturday down in Cape Coral, FL.

Thunder actually originally had a pretty decent tour schedule in the spring, before 3 shows were cancelled:

    DCI Orlando

DCA show in Kentucky - Cancelled

    DCA show in Manassass, VA

DCA show in Atlanta (Alliance) - Cancelled

DCA show in Frost Proof (Sun Devils) - Cancelled

DCA show in Atlanta (Atlanta CV) - ATTENDING

    DCA Prelims/Finals

Yeah it sucks that 3 shows were cancelled, but your statement above sounds like you're saying that it was too much of a financial burden to make the VA show, but had those 3 shows not been cancelled, you would have magically had the funds to do the full tour.

  2. Actually, I think most DCA corps (obviously not the CA/MN corps) are closer to that show than TBT is.

True, but Heatwave of Orlando still made those trips back in the day. They even made several trips to northern shows before there even was a DCA South region. Regardless, Sounds of the South 2012 is still going to be an awesome show!

  3. According to various reports, the drumline was made up of percussionists from the Indianapolis area, not just one particular school/university. Besides, I don't think Indiana University has a drumline quite that large!

You're absolutely correct. But according to the official Indiana University Drumline's facebook page, the entire drumline was involved.

  4. Congratulations and a BIG THANK YOU goes out to the Tampa Bay Thunder Drum and Bugle Corps from the Sun Devils!

TBT put on the first DCA show in Florida since 2005 and did it quite well. I was quite impressed with the entire operation from the moment we arrived. We were greeted by Jimmy and crew and were told where to go and also worked through some show logistics. Folks, believe me when I say this...the Land O'Lakes High School stadium was PACKED from end to end. It gave me hope that there will always be drum corps in Florida. From the BBQ stand to the Chick-fil-A tent, all attendees and performers had plenty to eat and drink. On top of that, you have the voice of Bands of America (BOA) doing the announcements! Which for me was quite awesome since I heard his voice many times when I attended Marian Catholic.

I would like to personally thank the entire Tampa Bay Thunder organization for allowing the Sun Devils the honor of playing our National Anthem. It meant a lot to the kids to put on our uniform this season.

Best of luck to you for the rest of the season!

Thank you for the kind words, JJ. From what I hear, you guys sounded great!

So...was it you or Alan that shouted my name from the stands?

  5. and with a special appearance from...The Sun Devils Drum and Bugle Corps!

The Sun Devils will start the show with the playing of our National Anthem. I was going to put it in a press release today...actually I still will write the release, however, I wanted to chime in on this thread.

Doctor!!! Can't wait to see you there!

  6. From the "Believe it or Not" category....This IS on topic! (I think this makes it one in a row for me...LOL)

While in Wildwood (Elks Convention/parade) I got to meet a couple of fellow DCP'ers from our current guest's home state. (as a matter of fact they ARE a couple) They were in Wildwood to march with the Reilly Raiders. He in the Snare line and she was in the Rifle Line with Donna. We got to talk about our mutual friend. Our current guest is a good friend of theirs as well, a mentor/instructor.....I guess one could say like a dad to him. It was nice to hear his stories/good times spent with our current guest and I think he enjoyed hearing some of mine. (I did warn my new friends that when they return back home and talk with our current guest.... "you can't believe anything "he" says....." LOL) It wasn't until we got back home from Wildwood that I learned our current guest was also in Wildwood that weekend! (he marched with the B'Men Alumni AND was photographed with the aforementioned (by Donny) Penguin....)

Hehehe!!! I wonder who this could be?
