People will probably find this annoying, but I'm going to post it every single show leading up to the first meet-up between all the top corps: BD is going undefeated this season, and it will not be close.

My only thing is, why repeat it continuously though? I feel like that is safe to say fairly that it does come off as obnoxious. Not to say that everything you are is obnoxious, unnecessary or whatever and attacking your person as some could potentially, it happens when anyone roots for the top dog in anything really. It’s simply the action of repeating the sentiment is what I have an issue with.

I definitely like Phantom's show better, but to be frank, the corps does not have the talent to overtake Bluecoats. That's not a knock against the kids at phantom, they sound and look phenomenal this year. But the Bluecoats' performance levels are at a different level. There will likely be some stratification between 4 and 5

I think it’s just more exciting to see how close they can get to the top 4 and how high their scores can get, rather than expecting them to top any of them. Of course it would be very phan-tastic and exciting of them to climb even further and jump in placements, but the ride will be plenty exciting if 5th is their ceiling, their show is great and I’m enjoying it a lot!

It's funny that what's popular differs from region to region, because I haven't heard it attempted at all in my neck of the woods. I'm tired of hearing 160 BPM, Fly to Paradise, Danse Macabre, and anything from Tilt, Kinetic Noise, or Downside Up every other program in the fall.

You see I don’t really hear much from Tilt or Kinetic Noise in the fall. Besides probably Hymn of Axciom and Woods. The former I’m also kinda tired of hearing, even though I like it, but I’m always down to hear the Woods ballad or anything else from those two shows! Downside up probably gets the most airtime from what I’ve heard. And those first three selections you listed are just commonly overplayed everywhere I’m sure😂

The Abyss was just so simple. Nothing complex about it. It didn't have to try hard, it just was. If that even makes sense. Hard to put it into words, but The Abyss is number one for me and until something else comes along to evoke the emotions out of me that The Abyss pulled out nothing will take it's spot.

Is it bad(this isn’t ‘cause of Crown) but I’ve heard that be played in marching ensembles all over and I just can’t hear it anymore. I can still enjoy crown’s performance of it of course, but I just don’t like hearing it as much haha

I feel about this show 100% how I did with Ghostlight.  Solid opening, awesome following section, BEAUTIFUL ballad, and then the closer lost me and never got me by finals.  Jojo and Both Sides Now are absolutely incredible, like 99.75 stuff.  The rest doesn't do it for me, still feel like there are much better constructed shows this year.  Regardless, absolutely incredible levels of performance and probably leads the season til the end.  Even if I don't like the show the respect is always there.  But geez I want someone else to win.  I'll be honest.

I find myself halfway between the BD haters and lovers.  When it's good I'm all in.  When I don't like something it really rubs me in the wrong way and is borderline pretentious.  I feel like I'm fair in my criticism and probably comes down to what I personally look for in a show and appreciate.  I digress.  2017 is the last time they REALLY had me, there are glimmers of that kind of buy in for me, but just not there as a whole and I suspect probably won't be.

I very much feel the same, especially when it comes to taste, 2019 was probably the most enjoyable production since 2017 because it felt the most *unrestrained* if that makes any sense, they kinda pulled out all the stops on that one and was very BD in a good way. I don’t feel like this year’s show does much for me personally, even though the source material’s very cool and interesting. There isn’t really one show in the top 4 that’s hooked me in completely either, so this isn’t only BD slander haha

With some moderate percussion fixes would help them for sure. But a great show.

You just have to be, if you wanna close that gap, Boston is incredibly solid, as are all the corps ahead of them in the music captions, fighting amongst themselves pretty much in that regard. Unless one of them get a surprise 5th finish in brass(Phantom could break through with a 4th, I think they sound FANTASTIC) , it’ll be hard for Phantom to break through anywhere else I feel.

  7. Phantom definitely looks to have cemented themselves as a top 6 contender and probable finish, the added judges/corps at larger shows haven’t been put in the equation yet, but it looks like they’re going to be right behind the top 4, and lead the rest of the pack! We’ll see how much they can narrow the gap between them and the top 4 with more looks and refinement

I used to do it for every show years ago but then people started beating me on posting threads days before the show so I stopped. But I appreciate that everyone is enjoying it

I say that it helps calm people down before they disagree vehemently on corps takes after scores come out. It helps to have a chuckle before entering the thread😂

    please continue to do it!🫡

Crown is great! I think the brass has taken a slight step back in excitement, but the quality is there.

Something about their staging doesn't sit perfectly with me, but that's ok.

I won't be mad if they win it all, but it's going to take until the end to sell me on this show.

The guard is on fire. The percussion seems great and integrated well, but the combination of brass and percussion isn't blowing me away. I've seen the show live 3 times, and I have to fight to stay focused.

I wanna throw babbies, but I'm not compelled to throw babies. We'll see how that goes.

What should I be looking for in order to get more out of the show?

With Boston, I concentrated on the guard, and that drew me in.

With Bluecoats, I focused on that bacon-sizzle brassline. That drew me in.

With Crown, I'm used to that brass. Now it's the guard that's doing the heavy lifting, but it doesn't give me that Cadets '93 level of excitement just yet.

I need some education folks! Please point some stuff out for me!

    Thanks!

In terms of excitement I think I like what they offer this year more than 2019 or 2022. I think for many people, last year got a little too stale too quickly and this year seems like much more a return to form as to how Crown can grip you and really take you on a ride with their hornline.

  10. I think I need to see the closer of this show before I can take it all in and be bought in completely, I just need it to be whole, have that cherry on top to give me that feeling of satisfaction I don’t have quite yet with the whole package. But they have of course started off on a better footing than last year, absolutely

I am one of the biggest BD honks on this forum. No way they are two pointing the field this year. I believe they will win it all, and there is nothing wrong in thinking that.............but by 2+ points??? No way. It's going to be tight at the top.

If captions get split amongst all of the top 4(very well could happen) there is simply no way. No one’s coming away with a clean sweep this year.

Should have got out of it in 2019 tbh.

I really didn’t care for SCV’s show that year I guess because I forgot who was third that year for a sec😂

i believe they’re very capable of medaling this year, for sure

  13. For what it’s worth, Crown also went on first in the top 3 tonight, while not everyone subscribes to performance order being an advantage/disadvantage for a corps, Crown going first and still pulling off the win here is encouraging imo!

I hope Bloo never stops performing Anna Meredith. Yet again, one of my favorite weirdo musical moments of the season. Just so frickin fun!

Also felt like the number that really got the crowd into the show, tonight.

While some may see it as repetitive, it is totally and completely testing the performers in completing a very lengthy musical idea, both this year and last year, and is fairly unique to what much of the field attempts to do when it comes to achieving challenging lengthy phrasing and tension-building. Something Bloo has already done in their recent past before going on the Anna Meredith train so it works real well for them!
