Maybe the alums distant feedback in Social Media impacted the current 2017 and 2018 marchers abilities to get placement traction they sought both seasons, but its far more likely, imo, that the judges feedback re. their show designs/ performances had FAR more of an impact on this.

of course, I have said the show had plenty of issues... but their performance level did dip towards the end of the season and I think that was part of it

Since you have no post here from last night, you will need to clarify.  Are you seriously saying that a few alumni critics here on DCP caused the MMs to perform worse than they otherwise would have?

I didnt say it came from here... The comments were coming from the alumni facebook page, which the corps shut down.

The post I was referring to was on my website generalffect.com

However... the " Madison alums " had nothing at all to do with the recent placement slippage with the judges, nor the show enjoyment slippage with most Drum Corps fans, with the last 2 year's  show productions from the Madison Scouts. Changes were essential here in order to stop the slippage and attempt to reverse course.

I agree.. but as I pointed out in my post last night... the alumni overreaction ultimately impacted the performance.  They heard what was being said and I think it ultimately took its toll on them. Not saying they didnt try and not saying they gave up. They were put in the middle of it and I think many of them just couldnt wait till their season was over because of it.

I will give him a chance to prove he's the right guy, but as I said on Twitter, I am not overly encouraged that he can take the corps forward.  This was nothing more than the corps caving to the dinosaurs of the activity. The corps alumni will ultimately lead to the demise of Madison. The staff took a chance based on feedback from the judges and they unfortunately paid the price.

I think it is safe to say that while the judges had them in 5th they should have been 4th (by a good margin) and nipping at the heels of 3rd. They were just better than Crown overall and I don't care what the final scores say.

I agree... or at least I did till I saw them at Finals.  Crown's hornline saved their behinds tbh.  But, what I wasnt aware of until finals was how much amplification BAC used.  I sat to the left of the pit for Finals... once the hornline pulled away from the mic in the center and moved near the tarp... BAC's sound was cut in half. That was pretty disappointing.

Fans in your survey results for " most improved Corps for 2018 ) were 1 ) Mandarins    2) Spirit of Atlanta..... 3 ) Boston.

I can understand Boston 3rd in your results, but also understand others perhaps surprised, as you were with this as well. I suppose however when we think of what other Corps fans could have had for 3rd most improved Corps for 2018, it becomes fun to think of some other worthy improved Corps... as there were others. Who was 4th. 5th, 6th, in this category, GeneralFect ?

I would have to look to be sure, but Music City garnered a lot of votes. They were mentioned quite frequently as I recall in this category.

    "Not so Scientific" is right.

The professional researcher in me bristles when I see a "survey" that doesn't include any description of methodology.  Who participated?  On what platform?  Over what period of time?  How many respondents?  What was the survey design?  Was it open-ended or multiple choice?

    Arrgh.

I don't recall this survey being conducted.  Does anyone else?

Ha!  Now you know why I said not so scientific.  Basically, I posed the questions on my website (I took it down the Friday after Finals) and allowed them to fill in the blank and I tabulated them.  I didn't post the link here (unfortunately).  It was just something quick and for fun that I put together. However, it was completely anonymous and there were not enough respondents to be able to correlate the results back to a greater population (even though I am confident they would have been).  Would I have liked to have done something more formal?  Sure.  Unfortunately, time didn't permit and that really wasn't what I was trying to do in this case.  I may do it differently next year.  Not sure yet.

The way I read the person's survey in regards to the various categories was H had to do with placement improvement.  The other options covered individual aspects of a show.  If this survey was done during the end of the 2017 season, Boston would probably have finished in first as the most improved corps.

If I had done this survey and added my thoughts... Boston would have certainly been my choice over anyone.  What they accomplished in one year is phenomenal.  I just don't know why so many had BAC in this category this year.

Thanks BRASSO.  Before checking the survey article, I was surprised to see Boston in third.  Didn't think going from 6th to 5th was a big improvement, but it was great that Boston was able to accomplish it.   I'll have to compare 17 and 18 results since there might be a corps who made a big jump, but doesn't get a lot of coverage.  OC might have a corps who made great strides.

Believe me.. I was puzzled by that as well.
