  1. Congratulations to the Govenaires and to Minnasota Brass Inc. for their very well deserved championship shows. Also congratulations to DCA for supplying us at home the opportunity to be via the live feed to watch the Preliminary show. Last but not least thank you and congratulations to DCP, Kevin and crew for supplying us all at home for the live thread and commentary/pictures for both the Prelinary and Finals shows, another job extremely well done. Thanks everyone.

  2. By the way, Statesmen all girl cymbal line is making a serious case for Best Showmanship award.

Also, we have Joey Pero and Rouland with the corps tonight.

I disagree with the chanting and general chaos during the drum solo. It's a lot of noise and, personally, doesn't let the drum line shine like they should.

I agree Kevin. When I wathched this yesterday I thought the same thing. As for the show it's self I didn't care for it and when my son told me that they were playing Micheal Jackson music I laughed because I couldn't reconize any of it.

  3. Here's an idea I'll toss out to you (and you can toss it back). Let's make it interesting....

Drop the competing order idea. In other words...have a lottery to when each corps goes on for prelims. I think the way it is done now really gives the judges the idea of where to put each corps. Make the judges work too, they do get paid to do that. It's possible to see Bucs as the first corps on in prelims and Governaires the last. NOW.....this will also keep more fans in the seats from start to finish. How many people wait until the last 6 corps to go and watch the show? This way the "A" Class corps will get the same crowds as the Open. That to me sounds more fair for ALL corps.

Now I'll wait for all those knives to come flying at me...but remember you asked for ideas on this post!

I absolutely agree with this idea Keith. Why give the judges the option to slot the Corps by who they are which happens every year. Make them judge the show on the performance that is given that day and time.

Great discussion on the rest of the ideas given so far.

  4. If anybody has or knows of anybody who has a video recording of the 1972 and 1976 RCA Championships, I am desperately looking for a copy. I am most interested in the 1976 show as it was my first year in Drum Corps but the 1972 show would have my older brother and a cousin of mine in it. I know that it is only likely that this would be on an old 8mm film but if someone has the means to have it transferred to DVD that would be awesome.

Any help would be greatly apprecated.

  5. With the competition portion of tonights show coming to a close... Id like to thank Kevin, DCP and all other bloggers for a fantastic weekend of drum corps on the net... It's not as good as being there, but for those of us who can't be in attendance, you have been great. thanks again

and now back to the show

I totally agree, thanks to Kevin, DCP and the entire crew. Great coverage folks.:devil::thumbup:

  6. Well like most of the corps members out there, I was hoping that it wasn't going to be my corps that got the benifit of DCA's decision to let the 11th place corps perform to open up Finals night. But as it turns out it will be the Kilties and I just wanted to say thank-you to DCA for the opportunity to give the fans one more performance before we close the curtain on "A Night at the Opera" and bring our field show season to an end. Any time you get to enter the stadium in uniform is a good time, even if you don't get to see where you stack up against your peers by getting a number at the end of the night. I hope those in attendance tonight will enjoy our performance as much we will enjoy taking the field to perform for you. While I love to compete as much as the next person, in the end without the fans in the stands, our activity would be nothing more than playing our show for empty stadiums across the country.

We will be back again and as always... WWBD!

    Ryan J

Go out and enjoy the show, your performance and the crowds love for you. I promise that thats all that is important at this point in the season. Have fun Kilties and congratulations on a very good year.

  7. Before I forget, the show is entitled "Rome MMX" and consists of:

Pines of the Appian Way (fourth Movement from Pines of Rome) by Respighi, Ottorino

Games at the Circus Maximus (Movement I from Roman Festivals) by Respighi, Ottorino

Adagio from Spartacus by Khachaturian, Aram

The Epiphany (Movement IV from Roman Festivals)

And before we forget, thank you again Kevin, DCP and to all who have brought us the play by play of todays shows. It's the next best thing to being there. :worthy::tongue::worthy:

  8. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Big Show - The 2010 Drum Corps Associates World Championships Preliminary Competition!

The Drum Corps Planet LIVE from the Stands team is in place in the (completed!) press box and on the field, ready to provide you with the BEST coverage outside of being there.

The weather for show time is partly cloudy, 65 degrees with wind gusts of 20-30 miles per hour. Earl was kind enough to stay far away from Rochester, unlike the LAST hurricane with an E name that hit over Labor Day weekend.

Here's our view from the press box:

    10%2012:57:24%20PM.jpg

The first corps steps off in less than 20 minutes!

Thank you Kevin once again and to DCP for putting this on for all of us that can't be there. Have fun and enjoy the show yourselves as well.:doh:

OOPS Sorry folks a little slow at the gun

  10. The results for the Connecticut show might take a bit longer than the Reading scores..... four competition corps in that CT show, plus I understand there are four alumni corps and two high school bands scheduled in exhibition.

That could be a long night.

Another great night of entertainment and another Saturday night of anticipation.

  11. yep!! and eh? this is quite the season! I can't even guess how this year is going to play out...Class A and open WOW!!!

This show should give us a really good idea how our Corps stacks up to the rest of the Class A Corps John. I can't wait to see the scores.

  12. Honestly, the title of this thread...

"DCA has let it be known the race for 2nd has begun"

    Is quite off-putting to me.

Is the OP saying that, somehow, the DCA executive committee has met in secret and decided that certain corps will be judged certain ways?

Or that a group of DCA judges has gotten together and decided, as a group, how corps should be judged and which numbers should be handed out in various captions?

Because either of the above scenarios would call into question the integrity of not only a lot of good people, but the entire judging system as it is currently structured.

I guess my point is..... if you're going to make a blanket statement along the lines of "DCA has decided...." or "DCA wants things to happen this way..." then it would be really nice for you to provide some shred of positive, credible proof that somehow, DCA officials and judges are engaged in a massive co-conspiracy to determine the outcome of shows in advance.

And absent that proof, I'd suggest that you just shut up and sit down. :worthy:

    Very well said Fran!!!

  13. .... their CD's or DVD's from DCA's yet?

I expected mine to be waiting for me when I got home, but...

    Andy

I spoke with Gary from BVP on Wednesday morning and he told me that the CD and DVD orders that were placed at the show DCA weekend were being filled first and that all other orders would be sent next. He told me that the CD's & DVD's would be being shipped on Monday or Tuesday of this coming week. So they should be coming soon. Canadian orders would likely take about 5 days to come over the border. Can't wait for mine. I hope this helps folks.
