Kathy is just confused.  The goal should be to train teachers/educators of any kind about issues of abuse, which is what we're talking about here.

Mandatory reporting with proper training is something that's absolutely VITAL to adults who work with kids for a living.  If a good system is in place, teachers are one of the first steps in facilitating experts who will take over after the reporting phase.  Make it a crime to not report abuse in DCI, which is how it is in a lot of school districts across the country.  Or just expect more of these stories to get swept under a planet-sized rug.

Theoretically, mandatory reporting is already put in place with Policy 122.

    Hey everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself. My names McKenzee, I'm the 2021 SOA member who came forward the other day regarding all of this. I wanted to thank those of you that have supported me and spread the word. If you have any questions pertaining to what happened, I'd be glad to answer them. I cannot name names, but beyond that I'm open to talking about my experience. Thank you.

Make sure to look into policy 122. Make sure you get a copy of there report, and make sure you have evidence of n whether or not they consulted you with the punishment of spirit.

If the CEO of drum Corp international did infact enact policy 321, then there might be little you can do.

With all due respect.. you are wrong. Have look at the DCI rulebook. Policy 321 allows for Dan to take unilateral action on his own. If Spirit does not clean up their act, he can in fact punish them severely. Pioneer was placed on probation and one of the stipulations of that probation was Roman Blenski having no decision making authority and for him to step down from the board. He refused, and Dan enacted policy 321 and for all intents and purposes gave Pioneer the death penalty. Unless I am wrong, in theory, Pioneer COULD in fact petition for reinstated DCI membership if they enacted the requirements of the probation set down by DCI. They just didn't.

There is a chance that the prohibition is already a result of Policy 321. The wording is very vague like someone has mentioned, and considering how sudden there statements was, this could totally be the case. However I personally think that the Corp can be punished far more.

The Letter of release form pertains to financial obligations (you can't get contracted to a new corps if you still owe money to a former corps).

It can and should be amended to ask if the member has been disciplined or credibly accused of physical or sexual assault while with the previous organization. Falsifying the info would be cause for revoking the contract, and if a corps director at a previous corps was complicit in downplaying or falsifying info, it should be cause for a ban from the activity.

The corps, through DCI, need to get serious about this. None of it's hard, it's all common sense. No excuses.

This isn't entirely true. Policy 510 states that after June 1st, all members who want to move from one body to another have to do this.

  5. *the 2021 summer tour, inappropriate behaviors occurred among performing members of Spirit of Atlanta that the organization neither condones nor tolerates in any way." - Spirit

"the independent investigation found that Spirit of Atlanta, among other things: Failed to properly investigate or respond to credible complaints of misconduct. Failed to articulate, internally and externally, the job duties of persons in authority and those charged with the duty to keep participants safe. Failed to properly train performers, staff, volunteers, administration and its board relative to Spirit of Atlanta’s and DCI’s Code of Conduct. " - DCI

    Spirits response was a joke.
