Not giving anything away, but consider bringing along a pair of "Sun Glasses!?" to Lucas Oil Stadium for DCI World Championships, INDYEED!  Have a Great Show Everyone! E N J O Y !

It's not in a dome anymore, so they're avoiding scheduling corps to perform during the heat of mid-day.

Brassboy: This was news to me, but with an open stadium and Heat/Humidity factor makes a lot of sense. Is this a permanent venue change. Makes NIGHTBEAT in Winston-Salem the following day quite significant when balancing "all" the Corps Scoring going into Allentown. Thanks for posting. DrumCorpsRelic.

  3. Congrats to PC on a nice Jump to a 71.100. I realize, i am adressessing a Cal Corps Loving Crowd at the moment on DCP. But PLEASE, show some Respect and not ignore the other "Dark Horse" starting out at a good trot from Arizona.

THE ACADEMY also scored a 71.100 and made an impressive Rose Bowl Performance, 4.1 jump in score, in its only second previous performance in San Bernardino.  Perhaps "Respect," may be bit much to ask from DCP folks this early in the 2023 Season? I can acknowledge, from my many years on DCP, and reading through countless threads, where contributors maintain "Blinders on," either ignoring or worse penning fault towards Corps outside their "Elite" Chosent.

But I think it fair, to ask more DCP folks to consider voicing some well earned credit due in the direction of THE ACADEMY and the many "Other" World Class Status Corps as Well. Just Saying, from my Boston Rocker. LOL

All the Best and Happy Trails to All Corps making their way through their 2023 Competitive schedules. Godspeed and ENJOY!

Why is the Academy seeking a corps director?

First, this opening is in no way related to the crises we encountered in 2022.  The Academy purchased a $450,000 brand new food truck, which was supposed to be the best in all of DCI.  Upon leaving for tour, the refrigeration compartment could not keep food at the guaranteed temperature, and we lost over $7000 in food right away.  The freezer compartment barely reached 35 degrees, far from the guaranteed zero degrees.  These challenges forced our wonderful food crew to scramble all season long for fresh food and drink supplies, and they did an amazing job except for one or two exceptions when some students near the end of the line settled for food different from those in front of them.  We took care of them.

And then came 15-20 cases of COVID ... including our E.D.

We have one of the best executive directors in DCI.  Mark Richardson was chosen "Director of the Year" in 2016.  But drum corps is big business carrying an annual budget over $1 million.  It really takes two strong leaders to take care of all tasks from the business side to recruitment to staff building to show creation to facilitating a positive growth experience for the students.

Mark is not leaving, Thank God!  We need a corps director to supplement Mark.  If you know competent leaders who would fit our culture, please encourage them to apply.  It will be very, very rewarding!

RKUSKE: $450.000 for the new Academy Food trailer!?😱 I Contributed to the original $150.000 trailer fund raiser, which was followed by a second $50,000. Fund raiser To equip the interior appliances, ovens, warmers, sinks etc but had no idea of its total cost.

Hope the heck trailer ironically named "Hell's Kitchen" was adequately covered by Warranty and Insurance for all the food $7,000.+ in food spoilage and the shipped out for necessary Refrigeration/Freezer repairs, and Old Trailer put back in servixe for how long.

Did New trailer travel throughout the summer tour lacking proper cooling? What the "Hell's Kitchen" did the Academy get for its $450,000? A fifty Four foot "Lemon in Wheels" 🤬😥 So Sad and frustrating. Bravo to the touring Food Crews, and the MM incredible test of character and Endurance, but that's exactly how Mark Richardson and staff prepares it Corps.

I've been saying this all season. First show in Southern California, they were less than 4 pts behind Mandarins, and now they are over 11 pts behind them. Covid has affected all corps this year, so I don't know how much of that has affected their ability to improve during the season vs other corps. But it is evident they have not cleaned up both visually and musically like they should have over 6 weeks. I still hear a lot of tuning and ensemble issues in the brass that I would not have expected to still hear from them after ~20 shows under their belt, and I am not in any position to speculate why. I know they had issues with recruiting last year and this year, so I'm sure that's part of it. But hopefully they can finish the season strong and come back even better next year.

CAtenhut: THE ACADEMY certainly brought a more "Whole-some" Corps to Indy. Ending the tour with perhaps, its two strongest tour performances. Their 4+ point leap in Prelims score Thursday was most welcomed and well deserved, and on Saturday the Corps of Oompa-Loompas left a Lucas Oil Stadium audience brimming with a confectionary delight. YUMMY!   Thank You and CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!

Crap. I'm not qualified. I think I got Academy's style down pat though, it's very similar to my own aesthetics

Orwellian Wiress: You may not qualify for Corps Director, but I'd bet you'd make an Awesome, World Class ACADEMY Corps Mom, and Cherished Corps Volunteer! You certainly have good taste in aesthetics to go along with it. I guess you could be referred to you as "The Complete Package." LOL.  I've always liked your DCP comments. Thanks and  ENJOY!

  8. I am 71 years young, I just completed reading this rather depressing Thread and "Reality Check" from beginning to end in one sitting. It certainly has got me feeling "OLD". LOL I really haven't followed the ongoing developments in the passing of Blu-ray Disks, DVD's, CD formats and what was once called "Hard Media".

I personally WAS looking forward to the purchase of my fantasized "2022 DCI Blu Ray/DVD 50th Anniversary Collector's "Box Set" Edition" of DCI's Historic Top 12 Corps, including all Corps performances placing 13-35. What a hell of a "Keepsake," I imagined. Only to come to the sad conclusion of: POOF! went that wet dream.

But upon serious "reflection" it's been ages since I last listened to CD from my vast music Collections. I actually can't even recall the last time I watched one of my humongous collections of DVD's from DCI,TV Series, Movies, Documentaries, Tons of Touring video collections.

Guess I wasn't playing close attention to the fortune spent in years past on CD's and DVD's. or even paying attention of my skyrocketing Cable TV Bill, and a half-dozen or so streaming services I subscribe too. Yes Folks, Old Habits do die hard.

I still have U-haul Boxes filled with VHS movies, and countless audio Cassettes, and even a large Old briefcase full of Reel-to-Real Audio recordings I made in my "radio days" dating back to the 1960's

I guess my self given handle of "DrumCorpsRelic" has proven to be quite definitive, LOL. I guess the old saying "From Dust to Dust" will never apply to my "hoarding!?" collection of the hard media audio and video recordings along with all the antiquated playback devices...or more aptly defined "Vices," which will surely survive well beyond by dying days.

Looks like I just may have to order a "Dumpster Drop Off" in my not too distant future. LOL. Thanks for the Memories.

Just 1/82 of fan comments under the delay post on FB:

"DCI definitely needs to review what happened/didn’t happen and make massive improvements! Those individuals who have disabilities or limited mobility had a tremendous issue also. Totally unacceptable situation."

Keystone, thanks for your appreciated observations/experience. Due to my own Handicap and limited mobility, I count myself most fortunate to have had to suddenly cancel, Tuesday Morning, August 9th, all my refundable flights, hotel reservations and the three nights of DCI Prelims, Semi's and Final's tickets that also were refundable thanks to the Allianz Insurance I purchased for only $12.00 per ticket. Disappointedly but necessary in that moment, Grateful to have saved my original $2000.00 investment. While still enjoying all the DCI 50th Anniversary TV Coverage from the comfort of my recliner.

It was a truly an AWESOME, UNFORGETABLE, COVID 19 DCI DRUM CORPS RECOVERY, IN HISTORICAL FASHION AND WITH UNPRECEDENTED CORPS AND MARCHING MEMBER PERFORMANCE ACCOMPLISHMENTS. CONGRATS ALL, BRAVO!

I’m sorry you couldn’t attend but I hope you are feeling better now.

Thank you Terri, it was a long recovery, but glad it took place in the comfort of my home. I hope you had the opportunity to attend and take in all the Drum Corps Historic accomplishments made in one of the most competitive, nerve wracking placement battles and countless and "unprecedented" performance first, and returns to Finals, too many to list here. ENJOY!

DCI hires the stadium. DCI is the client. The Stadium (and their subcontractors) are at their service, no?

I'd suggest if their contract doesn't specify how many security metal detectors will be open, they sure as hell better add that.

Why was this not a problem in the past?

Who say's it wasn't! A good friend of mine who attended all three days shared with me on the phone, that the one concession stand he found open, had one person behind the counter preparing the $5.00 Hot Dogs and Selling the $10.00 Beers. He also found a large number of Open Stairways and Escalators were either barricaded closed, and the downward escalators inoperable!  The horror stories abound over the real "Cluster ####" attending patrons found upon arriving at Lucas Oil Stadium."

I guess I should count myself "fortunate" as a handicapped individual using a walker, in having to suddenly cancel last Tuesday, August 9th, all my Flight and and 5 nights of Hotel Reservations along with my refundable $175.00 Allianz Insured DCI Tickets. Apparently the best $2000.00 in savings I could have ever asked for.

PS: I thoroughly Enjoyed DCI's Tom Blair's Direction and his Crews, Field Managers, Production, Camera Coverage, superb HD Audio/Video presentation of all 35-WC+OC Corps Live performances, along with FloMarchings playback, rewind options, it almost made be feel that "I Was There". BRAVO to ALL AND DCI for it's once in a lifetime, Spectacular 50th Anniversary World Championships and World Champion Logistics. WOW and Many THANKS.

Jim received a survey from Ticketmaster today.  He responded honestly about his experience and it was quite lengthy.  If you get a survey, I encourage you to respond.

Terri, I responded to the survey. Unfortunately noting to a sudden onset of illness last Monday i hand to cancel all my Flights and Hotel Reservations along with three prelims, Semi's and Finals DCI event tickets which I purchased guaranteed ticket Refund Allianz insurance. Thus I recovered all but $36.00 in insurance cost of my nearly $2000.00 initial investment. So disappointed, that at 71 years young, this would most likely have been my Last DCI finals "Hurrah" 😥. But grateful that in the end, all worked out for the Best.

    Word is no Blu-Rays

WHAAAAT!  What about a regular DVD!? Is so, (IMHO) what a an absolutely asinine marketing decision. While yes it would be an expensive purchase. This 50th Anniversay DCI Edition would certainly be a treasure Keepsake. And a potentially sales Gold Mine!?

I actually foresaw, hopefully, the release of multiple options

    1) Pre-show events Exclusive

    2) Blue-ray of top 12 inclusive of all the Corps pre-show history.

    3) DVD of 13-25 Placing Corps.

I am sure DCI will. If not already issue a  DCI News Release detailing their decision not to release a "DCI 50th Anniversary Championships (Collectors) Edition DVD

Had to catch your show today Academy.  Best run I’ve seen all year!  Best wishes for the off-season.

Whiskey, MOST DEFFINATELY! I followed THE ACADEMY here in Tempe since early May, and all 8-weeks of tour including the 14-1 rainout Flo Feeds that included them. i couldn't had Fathom their 2022 Tour to be (for me personally😥) the Most Frustrating tour to endure from afar  since I started touring with them since 2004!

HOWEVER, My Heart is bursting with Arizona Pride to see them put behind them an extrodinary summer Endurance Test of their metal, culminating in a 4+ point jump in Prelims and followed up today with a most satisfying, rewarding, inspirational life affirming Semi performance Creation that I and the Willy Wonka Corps of Oompa-Loompas, could have ever imagined. BRAVO, your delivery today was delectably delicious, and your Fans were Gobsmacked to their feet. The Academy's motto is: "The Effort IS The Prize". I know they walked off the field  of competition Heads held up, leaving behind their Greatest of Prizes of the 2022 DCI 50th Anniversary Summer Tour. BRAVO and ENJOY! 💜

It’s crazy long in the 300s section. We left before Academy went and no one was there. As soon as the break happened, it turned into a mad house.

LEFT BEFORE ACADEMY, WHY? Cause the Good Folks at Indy decided to sit in on one of the most Entertaining, musically satisfying, Fan Friendly, Creative Story Telling Corps programs in all of DCI this summer.

Shame Whiskey, you missed out on one fine, very underrated and underscored show (until their 4+ point jump today!) since their last performance in Allentown. So disheartening and so unfortunate that a virus and ailing food trailer prevented the Corps from the typical Clean Up process, and reeking havoc on scoring progression considering 25+ MM were out per rehearsal and performances Since Texas. No Excuse, Just a Fact of Reality. And "That Reality" can really bite!

No Worries, Tomorrow at Semi's, do yourself and delectable favor, and Eat Up on some ACADEMY Oompa-Loompas. Guarantee you, you won't find any better concessions than what those kids will leave on the field for you.  ENJOY + YUMMY!

I'm old school Drum Corp, guess thats a good start. I understand the World be a changin, and sometimes change is good. I'm wondering if it is good pertaining to DCI. Let me explain. To me, and I started back in the 50s following my dad and the later in the 70s transfering from being a DC Nut to a DC player, The Corp was about that military look ! And I applaud the Corps that have stuck to that and feel sad when I see the Corps that have not. Yes, DCI has leaned toward the "Theatrical Side" but I feel it was too hard of a lean. When I watch a DCI show I don't feel as though I need to hear a voice or voices explaining the theme of the story taking place on the field, Music is its own voice, let MY eyes, ears and mind take me on that journey not a voice. And the losing of the Shakos and Hats so we can see the performers face? Come on, the entire point of military style marching is that it looks like one entity, one constant  moving piece. And guitars and keyboards? I'm sorry but this has absolutely no place in DCI, they are called Drum and Bugel Corps for a reason folks. Look, I can except the change of uniform material, I can except the stage props on the field, all part of theater and they are enjoyable. I wonder what the 1934 Marine Drum and Bugel Corps would have thought if they seen keys and guitars? Lol. Yes, Times be a changin, and drum corp changes too. Has it changed for the better? NOPE, and I'm not alone on this, not at all. So many people I talk with after shows are not taking these changes well at all, some are even saying they won't return to watch any longer, I'm not one of those, I LOVE DCI and I'm not going to bail over changes, but I sure do miss the days of the old style corps and I'm not talking 50 years ago, I'm talking like 2005, So to all you directors that are still keeping your Corps music message in the hands of the brass and battery and leaving those Shakos on the heads of your players........Gods Speed and I hope you bring home a ton of Championship.

mr drums: I am in your corner, and cut from the same cloth.  I marched from 1965-1972. Several of those years our Corps featured 7-8 pretty "Hot" crowd pleasing, short skirted, White tassel Booted Baton Twirlers and a Majorette.  The 75-MM Corps debuted its first Flag Line in the 1971 at the Miss America Pageant Parade in Atlantic City, representing Massachusetts. Typical for the times,  our Corps had NO NEED for A Pit, Props, Amplification, Narration, 10-14 minutes to enter set-up/tear down and exit the field of performance,  We traveled with: No Food or Equipment Trailer, not even a small box truck, everything needed had to fit within or below the two hired Bus Coaches. Oh, the Corps didn't even carry of podium, LOL.

I extend my Best Wishes, to Every Corps and Marching Member, for a completely "Whole-some", Covid Free, Competitive, Memorable and Successful "Once in a Lifetime," DCI 50th Anniversary Celebration. May you attain your Personal Best and all Corps experience its highest performance.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE: GO ACADEMY! CELEBRATE, ENJOY AND LEAVE IT ALL ON THE FIELD! SO YOUR SUPPORTIVE AND GENEROUS OVATION APPRECIATIVE FANS CAN EAT UP WITH DELIGHT, the Oompa-Loompas Confectionist Creation of Your Imagination.  YUMMY!
