Whomever decided that was a good idea for a production will most definitely be in the unemployment pageantry leach line by Indy.

I agree with you 100%. But I don’t think the individuals that “run” the program are smart enough to even know who to let go. There is no way that drill writer should write for them again, or any drum corps for that matter. WoW

I have a special place in my heart for this year’s Phantom. Their visual designer, Jacob Taylor, grew up in my hometown of Richfield, Ohio, graduated from my high school, Revere, and is a fellow Glassmen alum.

Steven Estudillo is the visual designer for Phantom Regiment. Jacob is the visual caption head.

Do you ever bring anything positive to the table? From your posting history it seems like you never do.

I make plenty of positive comments. Go take a look at the Mandarin’s thread, as well as Bluecoats. When I feel there is something “positive” to say about PacCrest I will say it. But, I haven’t seen anything positive yet.

  4. Just want to throw this out there. Colts drill was better then Cavaliers drill. Same drill writer. Now, I know a lot plays into that, design teams, music, field set up. But Cavaliers look small and cramped most of the show. Colts, look like a full drum corps (which they are) the take up the entire field sometimes. My eye gets lead all over the field to different events. Seems like a big miss for Cavalier, and a big win for Colts.

I distinctly remember people saying the 2018 and 2019 uniforms were awful and they look like they're wearing diapers. Funny how the times change so quickly

But you can tell that the corps isn’t even excited about them. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 the corps did a uniform reveal. And once again, I think those uniforms looked fantastic. This year nothing! They know they’ve messed up. I wish I knew how to post a photo here so I could show you a picture from their warm up. They look thrown together, and poorly sewed.

Quite a lot of big assumptions from a video two weeks into Spring Training, with many COVID and school related holes and a clearly unfinished show. Remember that PC doesn’t do a national tour until a week or so after others, I’m sure the extra rehearsal time will catch them up fast.

They don’t have any covid holes. All the holes we are seeing are REAL holes. They don’t have enough kids.

Vanguard was sensational tonight. I think this show will be vying for the title. So much better than 2019 IMO.

I agree with others that the musical book was great in 2019, but it was too one note. The whole show seemed to move at a moderate tempo. There was little tempo variation. It needed and explosive fast ending.

This show won’t come close to the title. Guaranteed.

  8. First, I mean no disrespect to the members. Second, I love what drum corps are doing with uniforms these days. Brings the show to another level.
But, the Vanguard uniform is awful. Looks they are wearing diapers.  What happened? The 2018 and 2019 uniforms were great. Someone dropped the ball here.

  9. Simple review of tonight’s shows.

Scv- very underwhelmed. Looks like getting rid of JD was a bad idea. Music is kinda boring. SCV music usually gives me chills. Not this year. Drums are solid as always. Not very good staging for the snare feature when the disappeared behind the entire drum corps. I saw kids out of step!!!! I don’t know if this will be a top 3 show.

Mandarins- wow, wow, wow. This was the show of the night! They are gonna kill it. Music is great, staging is great. Props are a wow!!! This show is gonna go after some other finalist groups and pass them up.

Academy- solid start for them. Good overall show. Most likely not a finalist. But going to be in the top 15. Music is good, drill is solid always.

PC- they have a lot of issues….. recruitment is obviously a problem and they have holes all over. Looks like they kept writing drill and didn’t change anything. The opener music is great, but then goes down hill from there. This will sadly will not be a good year for them competitively.

Gotta say, I was a little underwhelmed. Like with everyone else, I need to be patient as improvement is sure to come, but Finals? As much as I'd love to see it, that might be another year off. Thoughts?

This is a big bummer. They seemed to be on such a good track in 2019. Now, they only have 7 tubas and tons of holes! There is another corps in SoCal call Gold, they are a open class corps. They have 16 tubas! Looks like PAC Crest needs to hire their recruitment person. Sad to say, I don’t think this will get anywhere near finals .
